👏 Hands down the best review I see on these cameras. No fluff. I want someone to put this Canon up against Sony. You did it perfectly. Now my mind is made up. THANK you, Bob.
I have the Canon G60 and I'm really happy with it. I've had the Panasonic GH5 for the last few years and I love it, but I needed to add a run and gun, dual pixel auto-focus, built in ND filter, 1" camera. Great companion to the GH5.
Excellent review thanks. Desrves more views. I have several Canons and Sony camcorders and agree with you about colour - my Legria (I nearly wrote Viagra) is really rich in colour whereas the biggest Sony I have (2K version - CX900) is great resolution but leaving me wanting for more. I find there is a lot of tweaking to optimise picture quality from an all round perspective. Somone mentioned your mention of telephone which prompted me to add that the best all round filming setup I had was Industrial VHS by Panasonic back in 1988. It cost me £20,000 and was better than subsequent SVHS, but of course digital immediately wiped the board clean. But it demonstrates that resolution isn't everything.
So I purchased a Canon HFG60 and used it for two seasons now and basically what I do is a lot of filming of hunting trips not only for my RU-vid channel but for other people as well. As much as I love the quality of the picture from this camera my biggest problem and issue is that it makes an amazing amount of noise that comes through onto film from the camera itself! Especially the lens motor transmits noise directly over and if it is cold out the camera makes all kinds of crazy noises that end up on film. None of these noises are audible and at first I thought I needed to upgrade my mic. I put an exceptional mic on and the noise was no better. Even in post editing it is almost impossible to get rid of the different noises coming through? Do you have any suggestions for a better camera for what I am doing? Again it's all about the noise more than anything. Lens quality in both low light and every condition is fantastic with the camera. Thanks and I really enjoy your films and advice!!! Is it necessary to step up to a more professional camera or do I just need to change brands? Help please.
I have worked with the 3 brands and i agree with your review, best quality image is canon, but the zoom in panasonic is important also, not an easy choice.
Nice video. But if you're doing action shooting, the 4K at only 30fps will let you down. Cams with 4K at 60fps will look a lot smoother with fast action, pans, etc.
Really great video that covers what a consumer wants to know. No random statistic reading from the side of the box just honest review. If I might ask, for someone really torn, how does this compare with the Canon XA50?
I'm not happy with the autofocus. Maybe AF is bad on all these cameras but it is very slow and often confused. As for the manual focus ring ... you have to spin that thing SO MANY TIMES to find focus. Even when you turn the sensitivity to the highest setting, it is useless for focusing.
I have the g40 and g30, I think it will be a good upgrade because my Canon G40 is a little better than my Canon G30 especially in the internal Mics. I do live events and I use the on camera mics because its omni directional with a zoom mic for backup. I'll probably be upgrading yo the Canon Gx10 because I need the camera to record on two sd cards one for backup. The Canon G40 can not record on two sd cards in 60p just in lower reolutions.
I have the HF-G40. Nice camera but I had to replace the side and top cover that has the zoom rocker switch. It wouldn't hold a zoomed position. ($80 part) Repair is on youtube. Also, I miss the subject focused in front, background out of focus effect, depth of focus effect, characteristic of still cameras. In manual I can get the background out of focus only if my subject is very close to the lens, the minimum focus distance. I am looking for another camera for video with a microphone jack to supplement the G40. Touching a face seen on the flip screen to focus on is an option, but who wants to move the camera by touching the screen. Good video Bob.
Excellent review. I had used a friend's Sony not too long ago and was impressed with the image. It is very heartening to hear you feel the image is better on the G60 than that Sony. Does help me a lot in the decision. Plus I already have some batteries from an old HF200 (long overdue for upgrade, yes ;). TY!!!
I just wish the Canon add more external buttons to the camera, ie, Shutters speed, Aperture ... rather hide them inside the camera. I owned the HF G30 and I find it so good in low light, and the colour is definately more pleasant than sony. I've been looking at Sony FDR-AX700 but hate it when I see the removable lenscap. thank you for the review
Yeah, the FDR-AX700 is not as good as the FRD-AX100. They made the auto-focus better, but the picture is less sharp. Indeed, more buttons is always better!
Very good review. However, it still shows why camcorder has largely fallen out of love of consumers/prosumers. They are big clunky and lack of innovation, too busy competing with each other in the exact same subcategories. Sigma FP, BMPCC 4k or 6k, GH5 or S1H can be rigged up or used barebone, while offering same or better feature set and image quality for cheaper. In true run and gun ENG style these camcorders are still advantageous.
If that were the case people wouldn't be using cinema camera's for run n gun work or even pro camcorders for broadcasting work. Camcorders are definitely easier to pick up and use for run n gun than a rigged out system that will either have good autofocus and poor stabilization or no ibis, or great ibis and poor autofocus, not to mention lens autofocus noise, etc.
BM, like all cameras, on the contrary, have much less capabilities. Sometimes they are inferior in the quality of shooting even to mobile phones. Camcorders are much better than anything you mentioned in the absolute vast majority of cases.
@@csamd9049 show me a superior camcorder under 5k USD is Netflix approved like Panasonic S1H. Or a camcorder similar size as Sigma FP can shoot full frame 4k raw
This video looks average at first glance in the list, but it was THE BEST of all the consumer advice videos i was looking at. So, THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Mr. Nagy doesn't rely on tests. He pretends to be a brand sociologist, but acts more like a brand fanboy. The Canon g60 stabilization has been widely criticized. You certainly found a weak spot. I found the scoring in some other categories questionable too.
@@fuglbird Interesting. Glad I saw your reply. I'm looking to purchase a camcorder for my podcast and been researching for weeks. Narrowed it down to 4 and was hoping to get some advice on a final decision. I narrowed it down to the Sony FDR-AX53, Panasonic HC-VXF1, Canon HF-G50 and Canon HF-G60. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@@DaCake2 I'm sorry; but I don't have any personal experience with any of these cameras and cannot advice you. Try to find someone who makes the same type of recordings that you want to make and see what they are using. Find it on RU-vid or elsewhere. Also find detailed tests and reviews, where you can actually watch the footage yourself.
Hey Bob - Thank you for sharing your considerable filmmaking knowledge. I recently went down the Mirrorless camera option with a Sony crop sensor APSC a6400 and a couple of Sigma prime lenses because RU-vid in general convinced me this was the way forward. For photography (and video with a tripod) I can't knock the quality. However, after spending all that money, there is NO image stabilisation. To get a decent "all rounder" lens with stability of sorts such as the Tamron 17-70 this adds another £775 to the £1500 already spent. When I watched your Canon HF G60 review and the fact it retails for £900 - maybe I need 2 cameras, 1 for photography and the other for off tripod video? - What are your thoughts Bob? - Peter. I record for a competitive high school marching band and use a g50. Was hoping I could pick your brain on a low or medium cost mic and wide angle lens that might be a good choice for me. I purchase my own equipement and it's mostly only used for this group. I started using the camera in the 9 23 2022 videos. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank your for your time
Hello! Need help! There was a violation of the fastener of the focal lens. This thing scratched the rest of the lenses, there is no sense in restoring. The issue can be solved only by replacing the lens. Please tell me if there is a lens for Canon Legria HF G 60 on sale in your country?
Hi Bob great video, is there and ability to shoot in log and do your own colour grading in the canon I like to colour grade my video from my drone I’m looking for an on the ground companion
I really like the video.. I want to record Stand up comedy shows, would you recommend this camera for that? Also, what add on external Mic would you suggest I use to record the shows? thank you for any help!
Hello Bob, thank you for your video. It has been very helpful to me. I currently have the Panasonic 991k trying to get a better low light cam. So even though the Sony AX700 has HDR, the Cannon G60 will do better?
Hi, Bob! I was considering getting the Sony ax-43 cam, for documenting my hiking and camping trips? Do you recommend that or would you go for something else? If so, which one?
Hi Bob Loved your review! Many thanks. I really want one, however, I can't locate one here in Perth, Western Australia. Do you advise ordering one from America through B and H? and priced at about $2500 Australian!!! I suppose I'm worried about repairs and damage on the voyage!! Cheers Trenton Harris Go Australia
@@LatinPerspective. I see he said it was a subjective comparison. It was not clear to me if the reviewer has first hand experience with the other two to make up those so called "scores" etc ??

For what I would be using the camera for, I want the background to be in focus. Can this be achieved using this camera? Also, I've heard the built in Mics don't produce good audio. Is this true?
Hej, víš, jak nastavit zpomalený záznam? Pokud si vyberu z MENU Pomalu / rychle, budu jen někdy dostat zaznamenané překročení povolené rychlosti. Díky za odpověď :-)
any camcorder with a 1" sensor will not have a zoom greater than 15x. On avg they will be 12x. All the smaller sensor cams are the ones with the larger zooms but they do horrible in low light and ability to focus fast.
You say 1" sensor size is the best balance and can get that depth of field, but I didn't hear if this camcorder has that. You say it is good but not what the sensor size of this is. At least I didn't hear it. I am read 1/2.3 online which doesn't sound like the 1 you recommend. Can you tell me kindly? Thank you.
Great video. This really helped me decide. Ok...Just for the record, the correct term is SMARTphone, not telephone. They are two completely different things. LOL
LOL... You're understanding of "picture" is good, but your production of "Audio" is terrible. The Audio in this video goes up and down like crazy, have to keep adjusting my volume.
