It's tempting to upgrade to the new thing on the market but there is always going to be something better than what you have. The limitations of the M50 have pushed me to be creative. I could have thrown money at the problems but didn't have the money to throw😂 so I went the creative route.
No grading on the outdoor video shots from the M50! Straight out of camera look + Cinestyle. Highly recommend anyone using a lower-level Canon camera to install Cinestyle if their camera doesn't come with C-Log.
@@ShaneDMCshorts I would because you get a little more flexibility with dynamic range. That’s the best part about Cinestyle, even though you have to do more post-correcting to the footage to “de-log” it.
I am creator and do also some professional shoots. The M50 is my back up camera. Use it with the kit lens, with the 22mm pancake and as well with the 28mm macro. Actually it’s soo easy to get good results out of it and it sort of safed my ass on an exhibition shoot last weekend. I would not have been able getting those out of the Sony ZV (no touch menu | Color’s) I did shoot products and a small Vlog. Bad lighting situation, small space and no time to take time. What came out of it is still great. So not as a main camera cut for such occasions a great tool.
I don't get why people are equating this to a cell camera. I have a Samsung fold 3 and I know there are kinds of pictures that the m50 can get that my cell camera can't. Furthermore I want a street photography camera and true that there are likely better options out there. I am a Canon fan and want to stay in the Canonverse. I want something small and light I can take with me. Something with a fully adjustable screen. I have a Canon 6D and I want something easier to travel with. I don't want to enter Canon's "R" line am considering possibly getting an m6 mark ii instead of the m50 mark ii, but I am not sure if the extra 300 dollars is worth it and only has a flip screen and no built in viewfinder.
I am still using my Canon M50 for my videos and I love it. I am thinking of adding the new Canon R10, and use the M50 as a second camera angle. Great camera at a great price!
I had to stop the video to respond real quick. I mange to purchase a M50 for $400 (I screamed at the price too. steal!) Now, I am beginning to doubt because I am not a beginner. I am digging my feet into graphic design, photography, etc. So I am really putting the effort in my gear. By effort enough to not have to sell a kidney for. lol I typically shoot with Nikon (since 2007) and have recently converted to Canon because of it being easy on my arthritis(Never would have thought I'd say this at 37 yrs old). I have been looking to try mirrorless or full frame but at a budget pricing. I thought this M50 would fit the bill of a balance of photography and videography. I am also checking out canon's dslr for enthusiasts. I am glad to have found your channel :) ty for this video.
I bought a SL2 three years ago. I recently realized that I wasn’t using it much because of its size being too big and also too heavy for my small arthritis hands: creating stability’s problems when I shoot photos. Tried a M50 at a store last weekend and it fists my hands perfectly, feels much more confortable, stable and easy to manipulante. Will buy a refurbished M50 with one year warranty from Canon soon for a 300$ less sale price. Need to compare with the M6 first though.
i am a M6ii user. M6 is definitely a great camera with that compact config. The only problem with eos-m is as you go down the way with more ef-m lens invested in, you start to get unsatisfied and want to get better lens. However there is no option out there, even if you upgrade within canon, all your lens bought would not be usable in RF mount.
@@DariusMakesContent the Ef-m line is dead, so I didn’t want to invest anymore on the m50 and bought an A7iv Sony. I honestly haven’t looked back since the switch.
I also own the panasonic S5. I'm thinking about picking up the canon m50 for just very simple day to day stuff. While I do love my s5 I do think the AF can't be something that lingers in my mind often. While I have found it to usable in a lot of case it's still something that distracts me from creating. For actual paying things or stuff where I want the best image quality I will probably still use my S5 and get more lenses for that. I hope that one day they will make their AF comparable to the rest of the market either with PDAF, Time of flight, or just improving their contrast detect to the level of everyone else using PDAF (this one is the least likely). But until that day part of me wants to branch out into canon and sony and get to experience the AF joy. I see you recommend the newer sony cameras I just don't think I could go to those since their stabilization is horrible unless you use that 45% crop active stab or use CB and have to render out each clip which can add a lot of time to your workflow. So I'm thinking of just going with the cheap m50 and just try to have fun with that and see if I would rather have the joy of AF vs image quality? Any input on my way of thinking ?
The M50 can stack up to more expensive cameras, even though it’s more of a 1080p camera. The color science and autofocus makes it a decent option still. With that said, I would highly recommend anyone getting the M50 to consider investing in better lenses to make the image quality that much better. I’d recommend getting the Sigma 18-35 f1.8, or the Sigma DC-DN Contemporary f1.4 line up (16mm, 30mm, and 56mm bundle). With lenses like that, your M50 will be more future-proofed because they’ll improve the image quality a ton.
Well it’s a good body tho but not by itself… the people who use the m series lens on it are crazy to me. If you get ef and ef-s lens on it you’ll be good. Canon m50 can look amazing but not with the kit lens. That should have been the message from this video.
I have been using the canon m50 M1 and just realized how many draw backs it has when it comes to video. Weird gitter when I walk around with it (kit lens). Only wanting to use the 22mm lens because it gives the best image quality. At least I have the canon color science.
For the talking head footage in this video, I used an s-curve LUT that’s designed for Cinestyle to “de-log” the footage and then I went through a couple of rounds of manual color grading to boost saturation and tweak the colors.
I have had the M50 for a few years now, I use it to make videos and at the moment I am still satisfied with the results, I would just like to get a lens to improve compared to the kit lens, I know thinking about the pancake 22mm EF-M but I am worried about the lack of stabilization. When the time comes to change camera, I will follow your advice! Greetings from Italy!
I use the M50 and a viltrox adapter so i can use a 70-200 zoom and 18-200. I can totally capture everything i need. I make sports youtube videos. Check my channel for the results. daddyrooster88
