I have Canon M50, but a photpgrapher friend suggested Sony A7SIII, I was feeling sad that Sony is now so expensive and I cant afford to buy, but after waching your nice comparison video I felt so happy and noticed that my M50 takes better photos and videos and smaller to carry during travelling, and I realized that Canon is always a Canon in photography. With the right lenses, the Canon M50 is capable of capturing some really nice photos. It is lacking when it comes to video, but it’s still usable on this front also 😊

Great video and nice comparison! I've been using the Canon M50 for a few years and considering upgrading to a Sony full-frame camera. I know I don't ''need'' it, it's more of a want-thing haha. But I can't get over how smooth the Sony footage looks in low light, that's pretty awesome! I just can't seem to justify spending so much money on a camera even though I know it would be a really good upgrade for my video quality. Also I really do like how small the Canon M50 is. As someone who creates travel content, the Canon M50 really is nice for how small it is.

Sometimes we have to treat ourselves with the things we want not just the things we need, as long as it’s in our budget ☺️ For traveling the small and compact M50 and the small EF-M lenses is definitely a benefit. And the price of the camera and lenses is not that bad compared to full frame lenses. The benefit of working with Sony cameras is the lens selection, that you can buy third party lenses from Sigma, Tamron and Samyang.. and as you mentioned, the low light capability of the A7SIII. And even if it’s only 12MP, the photos out of that camera is really good. I’ve used it in several weddings as a photography camera and it works great ☺️ Thanks for stopping by my channel! Well done. In most situations the camera does not matter as long as you know how to get the most out of them. The person behind the camera makes or breaks the quality.

This is true and has been proven many times 😊 Give a beginner a professional camera, and a professional a beginner camera, the beginner camera will probably look better most of the times 😊

Nice new intro! Thumbs up smashed! the A7siii is some upgrade! and the sony feels more natural, smoother in video. The m50 felt really crunchy. But you are right, you don't need the highest end stuff to capture great images. Nicely done Roger!

Roger, spot on comparison my man. You hit on several key points. Owning the M50 myself and using it for my channel, I’d have to agree with you. Also being new to cameras, I have to say that some may automatically think you need to make a jump to 4K and think about the crop sensor on the Canon. This used to frustrate me when I was shooting in 4K until I learned about my settings and I actually found that I shot better in 1080 60fps for my editing with a flat profile to color balance in post. HUHE difference. And for the price savings between the two, especially if you’re starting out, use that to get set lighting , mics, other gear. The M50 is a great camera and as you pointed out in the end, the 1080 is not bad at all! Great content as always and thanks for helping me grow my channel with your insight and tips on these things. Much appreciated my friend.

As to Low Light Test - ISO 12800, did you set the ISO value to 12800 of Canon M50 and Sony A7SIII for AUTO or manual mode ? Thanks.

Nothing much.. a firmware update basically. If you’re in the market for a new camera and you’re considering the M50, I would highly suggest that you go for the newly released R50 instead.

I may be a bit biased as a Sony guy myself... 😁 but comparing A7SIII in S-Log 3 vs M50 in Standard picture profile isn't really apples to apples. S-Log 3 requires you to apply some color grading which will affect the look of the shot. Why not shoot the A7SIII in a standard mode or at least S-Cinetone? I did find >50% of the Canon M50 shots "looked better" in this test, but then that prompts me to question the methods of comparison and color grading. Fun video anyway! No hard feelings - and I could be admittedly biased/unqualified. 🙂

You are totally right, it's not apples to apples at all 😊And i just put on a standard LUT to the S-Log 3 footage 😊 And it would have been a more fair comparison if I shot the Sony footage in S-Cinetone 😊 The whole point of the video was just to highlight that you don't need the high end camera to get decent footage, the footage from the M50 works fine 😊 But thank you for watching and commenting 😊

@@RogerAVHansen your point is accurate!! A7Siii not required. I am using much cheaper APS-C Sony cameras myself with A6400 and A6000 with no grading or log footage and it looks very decent for a new channel.

Don’t remember exactly, but it was either the 22mm f/2 or the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8..

any reason why the sony 12800 iso being darker than the m50?

Well, it was dark outside so I guess the camera tried to give as accurate picture as possible. Would have been unnatural if it was looking like daylight 😄 But the biggest difference was the noice in the two shots, and as expected the A7SIII won on that point 😊

@@truthseeker6804 I could definitely have made more comparison examples with different iso settings. This was just a comparison with the same ISO value on both cameras. Maybe I should make another video just comparing the low light capabilities 😊

good video. i like when people do such comparisons. i picked the m50 in most of the video comparisons as being better, and its because it looked realistic nice and punchy. the sony had a greenish arri kind of tint to it, and that doesnt look realistic.

Canon colors have been praised for years, and I find the footage from Sony more difficult to color grade. But for this who really know what they are doing the A7SIII is going to be an awesome camera. But my point is that you don’t need the best of the best, it’s more important with interesting topics that capture people’s interest 😊 Appreciate you watching 🙏🏻 Thank you 😊

Yeah Canon colors are always full of depth. Sony definitely had a greenish look to it. Color grading helps but still… I prefer canon 💙

@@dddavid132 M50 has a 24mp sensor, A7SIII has a 12mp sensor, so you get twice the resolution with the M50 compared to the A7SIII for photography
