Canon Powershot SD780 IS Digital ELPH full review with sample images. The camera was released back in 2009 and by now there are many other incarnations of this camera. Purchased this one at a used store for only five dollars without a battery.
A close up look at the menu settings, in particular the image profiles for both jpegs and movie recording. Overview of the image stabilization mode. A sample of night video. Several image samples with ISO 80 and the different profile looks.
In addition to the review I am providing links below to the CHDK hack which allows you to add more functions to this camera such as RAW image and timelapse features. A link to video slider by StudioFX. Review footage taken with Canon t3i. Recorded with Rhode video mic on a small Sunpak tripod.

The main and only one important thing he failed to demonstrate is the shutter lag, the shutter lag is the time it takes for the camera to take the picture after you press the button to take the picture. I am sure that many of us have missed the perfect picture because the subject of what we were taking a picture of had moved and so that picture turns out to be totally useless and a waste of time to set up the shot. Supposedly this camera has the lowest shutter lag but this fellow failed to demonstrate it or this was his very first digital camera and has no idea about shutter lag or thinks that the time it takes after pressing the button is supposed to be like that and it is okay to miss the shot you had waited for.

Hi Virgil, it is the main and most important thing. And I completely missed it. Correct, shutter lag is horrible for this particular camera. This is not my first camera but my third. Since the making of this video I have switched over to Sony dslr. Thanks for your comment, I will pin it to the top so people may know about this.

Virgil - This camera like many others has bad shutter lapse, I've noticed firsthand with mine. One way to fix this in Any camera is to boost your card from 2gb to 16 or 32. It will process and be saved much quicker. This is not a processing error, only a Storage issue. For $5 I'd say he did just fine.

I actually own this camera, but in red. I actually love it. But the one thing that I wish it could have is being able to pause during video. Great review

Have the same camera, very decent guide and instructional video on all its settings. Thanks for your time saving mine. It does have bad shutter lapse. Try a 16 or 32 gb Card. It will help, especially if you've changed the settings and customized different shots, will process and save them quicker. Or Should. Going to start using mine more, needed more specs and reviews on it. Happy Elph shooting!

I used this little camera to make excellent videos. I bought it in 2010 for $270.00 and I still have it in my stack among DSLRs and others.

How does the volume work

The volume for recording video is not the best. You have no control over it either so if you were filming in a loud environment it will sound very bad. However, as far as the volume of the menus it does allow you to change that, you can mute certain menus and beeps or just lower or higher the volume, hope this helps and thank you for checking out this video.

Hello question-can you take front facing camera pictures with it too?

No it does not. You can take the camera and pointed towards you and take a photo that way but it does not have two lenses

Yes it can do timelapse, but you need to download the firmware. In the description go to the CHDK and find the camera model number. Follow the instructions from there. Hope this helps!

Yes, it has a burst mode. Yes, it does have a self timer, here are the settings, 10 seconds, 2 seconds, Faceself 3 shots, Custom timer 10 second 3 shots. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions i'll be happy to help you.

"There is a way to hack this camera.. ::pulls out a handaxe::" Sweet little camera! I imagine it'd be good for some random B roll if your main video shooter's batteries are dead. Maybe I should check out my local thrift store and see what I find.

lol- yup- I found it at the store on Milwaukee Ave. across from Concord Music Hall- they had some nice vintage lenses for 25.00, started sorting through their electronic section and somehow this caught my eyes. I did order the battery online and once I got it in the mail and crossed my fingers, the little camera came on- works perfectly

You recharge the battery using a battery charger. The battery pack you need is - NB-4L and the charger is CB-2LV you can check out the links in the description to purchase them if you need to.

Thank you for your feedback. This was a short experience with this tiny camera and I currently use Sony A6300 for the majority of the work I do. I'm sure at the time when these were around it was awesome but not anymore.
