Thanks for the review. I always value your insights on gear. I've had the R6 II since December. I thought it would be mainly a backup to my R5, but I find myself using it about half of the time now. I've completely adjusted to the minor differences in layout when switching between the cameras. All the really import stuff is the same anyway. I really like the 40 fps and, like with my R5, I shoot almost exclusively with the electronic shutter whenever I'm not using strobes. I photograph mostly small songbirds. Since they often land on a nice perch for just a fraction of a second, the 40 fps improves my chances of getting just the right pose. Since I don't crop very much, I really don't mind the 24 mp. I do appreciate the extreme feather detail captured by the R5, but I find the R6 II captures a good amount of detail and overall the images have a less clinical look. I feel like there are smoother transitions between color tones that give the images a pleasing film-like quality.

Great stuff and very helpful! I just took delivery of my R6 II, to supplement my 1DX III and 7D II. Quite a step forward in sophistication, even though those two DSLRs are still 100% viable and will probably last longer than I will. I've already had some good success with it, particularly using the 800mm f/11 to shoot the full moon earlier this week. Looking forward to some upcoming vacation time where I'll hopefully have the chance to do some bird photography. Thanks for posting!

Perfect review. I own the Canon R6MII for a few weeks now and I love it. I also own a R7, that's great too but the R6MII is a better camera overall.
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
Have fun with the camera! I also think the R6 II is the better allrounder

Thank you for the comprehensive review! When the R6II was announced, I was very tempted to trade in my R5, but I’m glad I waited a few months, the R8 is cheaper enough to get it as a 2nd body :)
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
Yes, it looks like a nice option for a backup body. Let’s see how it will perform in the real world

Once again an excellent review. Personally I cannot keep up financially with the rapidity of camera development. I currently shoot with 2 R6 bodies (for exactly the reason you pointed out in having the same control configuration on both cameras) and will have to continue with them for some time yet.
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
Thanks a lot! I really think that for most of us it doesn’t make sense to always go for the latest model

I used R6M2 for a couple of days, I borrowed it from my mate in Japan when I was running a tour out there last month. Whilst in general I am okay with the camera but it seems that the hit rate is not as good as my R5 caveat that I may not get the setup right, but generally, I am matching to my R5 setup. The RAW file is okay to play with in LR. The difference I see is the ability to pick up the subject vs R5 is much better. That is very noticeable but the hit rate isn't as good, I'm not sure why but hey ho. If I were in the market to pick a second body, it would be either the R5 or an R3. YMMV.
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
That’s interesting! I had no problem with the keeper rate

Thank You for excellent review I have had R6ll since december ,the best feature is better AF compared to my earlier R6 ,now I have used it with my new used EF 600mmf4 IS ll ,to ensure good bokeh I ve been using totally mechancal shutter ,I dont know if it necessary. My other body is crop R10
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
Thanks! The problem of Bokeh with the 1st el. Shutter only occurs with really large Apertures (e.g. f/1.8) to my knowledge?

@@FabianFoppNaturephotography Thank you ,yes I watched now a youtube video where the problem is explained ,so I can use electronic shutter. I think theR6ll 14ms sensor is fast enough to avoid rolling shutter in most situations

Thanks! For Landscapes I use mostly the RF14-35 f/4 and for Macro I really liked the RF100mm f/2.8 macro. But be aware that neither of them will work on your DSLRs, only on mirrorless

"At this price range, we cannot expect the stacked sensor". Yes we can ! It has 26 MP, unfortunately the AF is not as good and the lens lineup is not complete. It's the XH2s.
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
That’s an aps-c sensor, it’s not even half the size if an fullframe sensor. Therefore it’s much cheaper to produce

@@FabianFoppNaturephotography yes, if it were cheap to produce of course companies will price it to sell more

Love your honest and thorough reviews, Fabian. Would you recommend this over the r5 for someone who takes mostly landscape shots. I do print and sell images from my 20mp R6 (just sold it as a bundle with lenses) and habe been impressed. But now I need a new camera I can't decide if i should wait for R5ii. It would be overkill for sure but would be nice to have and jave a better resale price in future. Or I save some money and go r6ii but domt get the 45mp detail. Or i could get a new R5 for a good sale price. But it's already 4 years old tech so selling it in the future would be a really low resale price i believe. Any help os appreciated, thanks.

Personally I would wait for the R5 II and then get an original R5 for a very good price 😉
@adamwhittingham86

@@FabianFoppNaturephotography I agree. I think I'll definitely wait and see what I brings. And then more than likely realise the R5 is plenty for me and save some money. Thanks, keep up the great work

Hello, thanks for the video. Would the R6 be a better second body to the R5 than the R6ii (as it has a closer configuration)? Thanks.
@FabianFoppNaturephotography
If money is no issue I would still go for the R6 II 😊

You're comparing the R5's 45mp sensor to R6MII's 24mp sensor. That's why the photos on R5 look sharper.
