New to your channel, really good information about updating r7. I've checked mine and it's using ver 1.3.2. Daft question but do I need download all the updates to get to ver 1.6.0 or just the latest version? Thankyou for your time
Hi there and thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel. No need to download all the updates one by one, the latest one contains all the fixes from previous updates. Just make sure you have a fresh battery, use program 'P' mode and update it as per instructions contained within the update PDF document, or you can use the App and do it, I like the old school way as it's much safer in my opinion. Thanks again and have a great weekend. Rich 😀
Hi Rich I agree with you on this I will do mine tomorrow, I haven’t received any messages from canon usually I do it on canon connect app on iPad Pro🤞but I think your way is better, hopefully it will be ok thank you for letting us know. All the best Martyn
Thanks Martyn, It's strange that we didn't receive anything from Canon, still it's always good to double check and one of the reasons I did the video just to help others. Fingers crossed it will, all the best Rich
@@RichardBirchett I will send canon a email and probably see if I can register see if that works 🤔I did have a problem earlier part of the year when I had the r7 on high speed silent shutter l was at lackford lakes nature reserve, never done hide photography before so I put it on silent shutter/ high speed in respect for other people in the hide (non photographers)and out of 2500 photos about twenty where any good , I’m hoping this update may well sort it out. Martyn
Hi Richard Andrew here in Ottawa Actually received Canon notifications for the R6 and the R7 on Friday 27 sept 1st R 6 update in many months and actually annoyed with Canon as some functionality on the R7 is not in the R6 around focus stacking Why should I upgrade to a R6 mk2 , please let Canon know Thanks Richard and hope we may get to meet Cheers Andrew
Hey Andrew, I'm glad you got the notifications from Canon, strange that I didn't I shall look in to that! Indeed and I'll mention it. That would be great, always nice to meet new like minded people. Have a good day and thanks for watching. Rich 👍
No issues so far and installed via SD. No real difference upgrading via the connect app either. Now patiently waiting for the mark 2 body. Would love eye control and a stacked sensor along with a battery grip
Great that it's been problem free, tested mine more today and it's been fine. CC App is good but I much prefer the old way, less room for error. Yeah, so miss the battery grip! Cheers for watching, Rich 👍
I modified a Canon BG-E2 battery grip to fit to my R7. took the stalk off, made a plate for the hole, also had to make another plate that has 2 bits that stick up (rear sits in the screen finger slot and the other at the front near the MF/AF switch to stop the grip rotating). Then wired the battery grip shutter button (both 1/2 press and full press) into a 2.5mm remote shutter lead and now my R7 has a battery grip with focus/shutter button. No battery ability though and to change the battery I have to unscrew the grip or charge via USB C.
Successfully updated my R7 from 1.5.0 to 1.6.0 today. My R7 has weird issues in which it will randomly stop reading from the memory card and sometimes freezes trying to read from the card (this is with 1.5.0). Previously I had removed and reformatted both cards (Sony Tough M SDXC UHS-II V60 128gb), changed from write 1 photo, write 2 video to write to both, worked for several weeks no issue then suddenly started doing it again yesterday. The camera freezes and becomes unresponsive trying to read an image and only shutting it down and removing the battery frees it up. This time I swapped both cards around and seems to be working again without issue. I doubt 1.6.0 will address this. Doesn't seem like it is the cards to blame, I have no idea. Since 1.6.0 no issues but we'll see if this card reading freeze up happens again.
I also was not notified by Canon of this release. On the Canon USA website it was also placed BELOW the firmware 1.5.0 download on the page. You wouldn't have seen it if you are used to just looking at the top of the list, you would have only seen 1.5.0. Very strange. I only saw 1.6.0 because I scrolled down to see what the release date of the previous firmware update was.
Sorry to hear about the Card freeze issues, haven't heard of that one before but I hope it gets sorted soon. Nothing more frustrating than having issues like that when out in the field shooting wildlife or any other genre. Cheers Rich
I believe this update is across the board with most of R range of Canon Cameras so not specific to the R7. The description is exactly the same for the R7 and at least R6 and R5.
Oh okay, I've not checked that due to not owning them, with the R3 there are some additional things that are applicable to the R3 only. Thanks for your comments it's good to know. Cheers Rich
Followed steps and downloaded firmware onto card. Running MacOS version 14.6.1 so selected correct version of firmware from Canon site. It prompted, "Update Firmware? 1.5.0 to 1.5.0? EOSR7150.fir. No other choices given. Hit the update Yes and when completed it said Update is complete. 1.5.0 to 1.5.0. What am I missing here?
@@RichardBirchett reporting back after a day of full auto bird shooting with like 1000 photos. cam not on fire and everything seems to be perfect. the auto shutter firing way after releasing it when i push the autofocus button seems to be fixed. but i will test that more before i believe it.
Muchas gracias.
Hey there, I'm just a bit old skool and like the more manual way, granted the App is much easier but I like to physically do it. Cheers for checking it out. Rich 👍
Been updating with the SD (or flash) card since the early days of digital. I wouldn't know how to do it otherwise! What mobile app? How? Didn't even know it's possible. There are no instructions for this on the site that I've seen! Anyway.....that's why!
Anyone has the turn-on problem. I updated my R7 with the window firmware in the SD card. After I hit the "OK" during the installing, It turned off. I never could turn it on anymore.
i tried to update the firmware from 1.5>1.6. All worked ok, up to the point the camera said firmware update complete, press OK to continue. I pressed ok, the camera shut down and won't restart. No lights, nothing. I've removed battery, cards, lens. Nothing, the camera is completely dead. I've sent to canon now for repair and it needs a new PCB apparently. I've gone from a working camera in mint condition to a dead camera through this upgrade. The camera is out of warranty and now facing a large repair bill. Beware of this upgrade as it's killed my camera....
Hi Martyn, That's such a shame to hear and what a nightmare! You'd think if that PCB failure was due to the firmware update they would sort it out for you free of charge, what a pain! This is the first one of heard of. I hope you get it sorted as soon as possible. Cheers Rich
Just an update on my camera since the failure. Canon have responded and the main PCB needs changing. They have kindly offered to replace at no cost even though the camera is outside of warranty. Thank you canon for your great customer service, although no clear answer on why the update fried the main PCB. I hope everyone else has no issues...
@@martynwhitlam1571 Thanks Martyn, so good that Canon have decided to do this for you, great customer service and was probably a one off. Fingers crossed you get it back soon and get back out with it. Cheers Rich
