This video helped me choose the canon 80D. I’ve had it for about 6 months now and I am 100% satisfied with my choice. I bought a Refurbished model from eBay for $820. It had a 807 shutter count and came with a rode video mic pro and a 18-55mm kit lens.

I got an 80D for two reasons. 1)100% viewfinder coverage, 2) Weather sealing.

I loved my T2i which I have given to my granddaughter because she's so great at photos. I upgraded to the 77d and I did the test of the three T7i, 77d and 80d. I chose 77d. I made my choice because it's 77 in the name 77d! Now - if I were to do it over again -- I'd do the same thing. The 77d is unique and I like its cool name. Fits my hand. Easy to set up. Did I mention - I like the name - 77d. If you want something better --- Go for the 90d. I tried it. It is by far the best of the T7i, 77d, 80d or 90d. If you're gonna buy something because you like it.....buy it because you like it. No body's opinion amounts to you as much as your own. You will treat the camera (or whatever it is you buy) with much more respect and care and have much more fun with it. My next camera will be a 90d. Why? Because it does everything the T2i did -- only, my skill level is about the same as the T2i can handle. So the ONLY reason I would have to buy the 90d is?.....because I like the name....and it does everything that I already know how to do with the T2i camera....maybe a little more advanced with those T2i skill sets so the 90d can handle anything I know how to do. Since I'm not going to be a Professional or go to Hollywood -- that's good enough!

I just got the 80D for shoots that require audio monitoring. I must say that I am very happy with this camera’ capabilities 😁👌🏿 I’ll choose this any day over the T7i

I recently picked up a T7i. Canon is heading in the right direction. Interesting to see what the 7D MK III will offer. I love that Sony is shaking things up. Reminds me of the Monday Night Ratings War.

The 80d is weather proof

OK here we go, earlier today I spent literally three hours going back and forth from E-Bay to RU-vid, then back to E-Bay, then Back to You-Tube and sometimes double checking on Amazon for comparrison trying to decide which camera to buy. 1, CANON 80D 2, CANON 800D/T7i 3, CANON 77D Price was certainly a factor, and noticed that most used 80D even on the used end were around $650.00+usd - $750.00+usd with only a very few with lenses, and $800.00+usd - $1000.00+usd Plus with lenses, and $1000.00+usd -$2000.00+usd with premium lenses and bundle deals. However the 80D's were either from Japan or Hong Kong, and If I had gone with the this, I would have definately bought the Japan listing. The big plus for the 80D I liked was the weather sealing option, which for me living and working in Southwest Florida is a factor especially from May to October. Other listings were either private sellers or stock photo's For the past 4 months I have really wanted the 90D, but considering I am not in the market for 4K or a $1200.00usd pricetag it just wasnt going to happen right now. ( But that 90D is pretty nice! ) The 800D/T7i was going to be my pick considering price points and value. However.... I own a T3i ( which has served me very well, and will still keep ) but... I wanted a better build quality and 1080 @ 60 Frames ( I dont need 4K right now ) The 800D/T7i were priced around $450.00usd ( USED / without lenses ) and anywhere from $455.00+usd - $700.00+usd with lenses ( USED ) and brand new around $600.00+usd to $800.00+usd. Then right about the time I was going to check out, I noticed on the lower part of the 80D listing I was about to buy, There was a Brand New 77D for $594.00usd and I put it ( on Watchlist ) from a seller in Brooklyn New York USA with a good seller rating. After buying the 77D I went back on EBay and looked around for a decent lens, and again, I scolled aound back and forth from RU-vid and Ebay over and over.... Another post purchase was a TAKSTAR SGC-598 Interview Microphone for $31.99usd which was a no brainer. This mic has excellent recording range and will fit the hotshoe mount. The final post purchase was Replacement Battery Grip for Canon EOS 77D Camera + 2 LP-E17 Battery + Charger for $58.95USD. This will cover me for extra power and AA battery power accommodation if need be. Then I found a nice Tamron AF 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC for about $129.00usd which was used but in perfect condition with the original box, hood, manual, and wrapping ( GEAT DEAL ) This lens will cover me for any short and long range video shots that I will need. Years ago this lens was selling for $400.00usd when they originally released it. After seeing the 77D I went over here to RU-vid and THIS VIDEO POPPED UP ( dude with the Fro Above ) I watched, I liked, I learned.... and Boom, It was official. The 77D offers the Digi 7 processor , I get the 1080 @60 , it works with my existing lenses, and I also found a Fotodiox Pro Focus Confirmation Adapter Sony A Lens to Canon EOS EF/EF-S to Sony A mount ( Lens ) $53.00 ) for my oldschool 35mm film camera Minolta lenses ( 28-80mm 3.5-5.6 / 50mm 1.7 / and 75-300mm 4.0-5.6 ) as well as my 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 and Tamron 70-300mm 4.0-5.6. " All in All, I felt like the 77D would be best for me " Since I have recieved the 77D it does a fair job at AUTOFOCUS ( but a bit mechanically noisy ) I am happy with the purchase and look forward to making more videos with it. I just purchased a T6i and I am looking and my next new baby 👶. I do tons of research before buying anything and I was looking at the 80D and for the future plans i am going in for my new business I have now decided to get the 77D. BTW What is also common with these cameras? THEY DO NOT OVERHEAT.

In 2019, 77D is better option as both T7i & 77D cost 699$ as of now for the Body only

I have my Nikon D200 which I got for £90 and I love it so much. It brings happiness to me, with its af-on button and top lcd as well as weather sealing, but also my family love my images

I upgraded from the T3i to the 80D when it was first released. Initially I had my eyes on the 70D but waited patiently, and I wasn't disappointed. I would recommend really learning the camera's capabilities and functions inside-out as the 80D is an incredible camera. The flip screen is handy for vlogging and awkward filming situations and the follow-focus really works great. ISO performance is nothing to write home about but if you're serious about film-making you'll have additional lighting or flash anyway. I never shoot above ISO 800 as it's just not necessary for me. Of all these I'd go for the 80D. The day will come when you'll think to yourself "I wish I had saved a little longer and gone for the camera with more features".

Just traded in my T7 for a used 77d($550) with 1800shots on it. Extremely happy with it. They had an 80d, but it was $700 and it was much to large for my 12yo to use. Controls are sooo much easier to use. Top screen is a must. Headphone port and weather resistant wasn't a deal breaker. The pics we took today came out of camera 100x better than T7! Only tiniest adjustment to exp/highlights was needed compared to the 6-10 sliders adjusted on every T7 pic. Thanks Jared for all the videos!

I bought the 77d mostly because it was lighter than the 80D and the 80D was too big to handle, the 77D fits my hands better. Am really happy with it so far.......

I am going to go for the 77D. even though 77D and T7i are similar, I find the screen on the top super useful which saves me time going through the menus. 80D is the best for pros with specific needs but weight and size is also a big factor. I think 77D is underrated in other reviews. FRO actually got it right and this is what I call a no bias review...

Great comparison! The T7i and the 80D are on a special promo at my local store. The T7i is just right for me. I would have gone with the 80D but considering your comparisons and what I'm going to do with the camera, I'm going for the T7i. The money saved will go to a good lens. This video is very helpful.

This review among others helped me decide on getting the T7i over this past Christmas holiday. For someone getting into Photography and small video content creation this was a good starter camera for me. The funny this about getting into Photography is how many people have shared their favorite Camera stories on their first camera.

Have had the 77D for two months now and I'm absolutely loving it.

Although they all have 24.2 MP, they are not identical sensors! The 80D sensor is 7% larger than the others. This misinformation is very common when talking about these cameras. The T7i gives you about 95 % of the features of the 80D at about 63% of the price. The picture quality is virtually identical. If you like a few more bells and whistles you pay a lot more for them on the 80D. I've used both the T7i and the 80D. There is no doubt the T7i gives the most performance for the money.

Only the 80D has microfocus adjustment!

Went to Allen's Camera to upgrade my t5i to a 77D. Rob was very helpful and gave me a very fair deal. So far I have been very happy with my choice.

I'm back with a few more comments. I have all three of these (bumbled into them at pretty low prices), and recently the importance of one feature has really come to light. The 80D has the "C1" and "C2" settings on the mode dial while neither of the others (nor the SL2 that I also have) do. I use a camera primarily for my online selling business. I take photos of merchandise, so much of what these cameras offer is not of great importance. I typically use a camera on a tripod, set to low resolution, on live-view with touch shutter enabled. Wifi is great because it eliminates a cord. My tripod has a quick-release which is nice in that it allows me to quickly pick up the camera to take handheld shots that might be dificult to handle with it on a tripod. I've found that having two sets of settings programmed in, for use on a tripod in liveview at stopped-down aperture with 2 second timer on C1, and handheld for viewfinder and shutter button photography at higher ISO on C2, is really great. I can take photos, and switch between the two settings within seconds, and my photos all come out numbered in the order in which I take them. This has proven to be such a big benefit of the 80D that it is now my primary merchandise camera.

Only the 80D has microfocus adjustment. If this matters to you (it does to me), this is a major consideration. I wish the smaller 77D had it.

I got an 80d refurb from the Canon online store, for about $800, so that's always an option

In early 2020 I found both the 80D and 77D in separate trips to a local shop at couldn't-pass-up prices. Both seem really great. After research and watching this video, maybe I'll keep both. One point you didn't touch on is the locking mode dials on the 77D and 80D, while I did not see that on the T7i. With my old 7D, I'd often pull my camera out of the bag, and unknown to me, the mode dial got turned off a setting or two. The full-frame 5DII had that problem, too. Canon fixed that by adding the locking mode dial on 5DIII and have added it to a number of other newer models. I really appreciate that feature. Nice video, too. I like the mixture of humor with the technical details.

Why does Jared think that the T7i and 77D are better at ISO? Did he test it? Just because you can extend the ISO further doesn't mean the image quality is going to be any different. Nobody uses ISO 50.000 on an APSC camera anyways...

I am currently using a T7i and I really love it! But I am going to change for a 80D

i got an 80d brand new bundled with the 55-250 lens and a few extras for 760 US dollars.... no regrets

The 80D is the only camera in that group with f/8 AF points. The 77D lacks AFMA, and does not use the LP-E6N battery.

I went for the 80D. VERY pleased with it. It's a bit more robust for my personal professional use.

just got my 800D (T7i in europe) as a demo model, really an upgrade over the 600D I had!

I have used all three of these cameras, and ended up getting the 77d. I still have not found a reason to get rid of it yet. You can find good used ones now for around $400. No review ever mentions the best feature on the 77d vs. the t7i, the locking mode dial. I took a trip to Yosemite and rented a T7i, and messed up several photos when I bumped the mode dial off of 'M', and easy to do. That ended the test for me. T7i takes great photos tho, just like the 77d. Batteries on both suck, so you need three for a full day of shooting and keep charging them. 80d wins this battle hands down, with a battery that may go all day. This is the same battery in my 6dii full frame camera. T7i and 77d are great smaller travel cameras. Video is excellent. I use it for doing Google Map pix, landscapes, some birding, and general use. I'm getting pretty good at ths, taking 50mph blind shots out car windows at interesting scenes, and does a great job on them. Final comment, I rented an 80d and did not care for the photos it gave me. There are mirrorless cameras and the 6dii now at just over a thousand$$ if you want better pics in sun and low light. I did a low light test with the 77d vs. 6dii, and the full frame 6dii crushed the 77d with little to no noise..

Because of this video, I was able to walk in to the a Best Buy and help a costumer which one to buy. So thanks for putting up the video. Keep up the the good work. The 80D is for me be because it feels better in my hands.

I bought the 77D for a back up and walk about camera to my 5DMKIII. The lighter weight vs 80D, yet the rotary control wheel vs the T7i keeps it similar to all the pro cameras.

The 80D allows AF micro adjustments - the other two don't.

Prices have changed; - 77D $650 - T7i $700 - 80D $1000 Question: is there any reason to get the T7i if the 77D is both better and cheaper now? Thanks for any advice/insight.

Meanwhile Canadians have to pay almost 2k for a damn crop sensor camera. I love the rebels for the tilty flippy screen but canon seems to hate using them for full frame. I'm in a wheelchair and for goodness sakes I need it for those angles I can't get to

If weather sealing isn't a factor, get the 77D. That second control dial on the back is a lifesaver. If you want a bigger viewfinder view, get the MG-EF Canon viewfinder magnifier, it really helps.

I had to subscribe! I really enjoyed the video and info. I've been shooting photos at the racetrack (horse racing) with a CANON REBEL XTi 400D! Lol a much older camera with only 10 megapixels and the iso 100 - 1600 or 1800 (I forget) so any of these cameras would be a huge upgrade for me. I've been told by many that dont need a new camera, just get a new lens.. But I have to admit that I do need a new camera. When shooting upto 2000 photos in a few hours I'm able to see where my camera lacks performance.. My photos change so fast the second the clouds cover the sun.. I might go with the T7i..

Ill say one thing. i dont like how the rebell sits in my hand. I would go for 80D just for the extra size

I am a bit late to the party. Just picked up a 80d. Was going for a 77d because of the ISO thing. But having fallen in love with battery grips i was surprised that the 77d does NOT support a proper one. That made me go for the 80D wich does support them. Somehow nobody talks about that. I know it wont take better pictures. But i dont want a camera without at least the option to upgrade.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a Canon T7i, due to the pricing, but also I am a beginner. Long story short; mountain, accident, busted camera and lens (past warranty). So I wanted to go higher or next level up that I could afford. Looking to buy the 80d, because 90d is out of my price range (bummer). After seeing this video on the differences, I really do not need the video portion on the cameras, I have a great cellphone for that. There are times my cellphone takes better pictures than my T7i. I need a lot of practice working with my settings. After that being said, I have found the T7i hard to find, a lot of companies are sold out (don't blame the people for buying it). But I am going to pause and start looking at the 77d model instead of the 80d. What drew me to the 80d was that it is weatherproof, not the other 2. I live in San Diego, a lot of ocean, beach, and then hour away mountains to take photos. Never look at the mountains the same way, heavy wind, stepped away, camera and tripod blow over. I knew better, but hey, what could happen? uhuh!! yeah exactly. I would like to look at other brands, but my film cameras that are over 40 years, (still good) are both Canons, my T7i of course Canon. Still have research to do before next semester starts. I guess I want to stick to what I was learning and training on. Sony or Nikon in the future. But then.... there is R5, R6. Yeah. After all that, THANK YOU, GREAT VIDEO!!!!

A bigger bit-rate could mean a worse codec or information processing. The T5i had more bit-rate than the T7i, for example.

Excellent video as usual Jared! Thank you!!! As mostly a street shooter with leg pain, I like the 77D. They are all fine cameras and you can't go wrong. But the 80D, though only slightly larger in millimeters and weight, is qualitatively different enough to keep you grounded; I would not take it street shooting, where I would the other two, which are JUST under my pain threshold for weight (with kit lens), moreso with a pancake lens. But the 80D is just a touch too hefty for that, and would sit better on a tripod, sitting in your lap at a game, or doing real estate shoots (but a steadycam rig would eventually get a little bogged down with this one). Comparing the T7i and the 77D - no question but that the 77D has that top LCD screen; and when you go from the 77D to the T7i - you feel a little let down, looking down at that plain Jane surface, I won't lie. When you go from the T7i to the 77D - you're happy again and you don't feel like a complete noob tourist on the cheap, but just look and feel more serious about photography. I know it's mostly superficial, but there it is. Both cams have a nice deep grip for big hands even though they aren't heavy. Beautiful! All of these cameras blow the SL1 out of the water, but I'd be curious to see the SL2 before rejecting it for the 77D. But I would reject it for the 77D. The 77 even feels better than the Fuji XT2 in terms of sheer tactile pleasure - which is actually one of my most important specs, and it doesn't get talked about enough. I don't mean ergonomics - I mean SHOOTING with this extension of your hand. You know? That's some fantastic walking around equity. The 77D's got my money. It's not Sony RX100 light but it is light enough, and it is worlds more fun than some cold Sony glass brick, some sweaty lozenge Xpro or Oly, or especially a smart phone (which you can't even perceive in bright sunlight, let alone control). And - the 77D isn't so intimidating to see pointing at you. You the photographer still look like a gawking tourist nobody cares about. (OK maybe because it's not far from the truth). IMO the 77D strikes the perfect balance between small size and pro heft for true gunslingers. Jam it in the messenger bag and go.

I bought the T7i about 2.5 years ago to learn photography and to see if I wanted to start a side business.. It's been awesome for me in regards of this and have made significant $$ on the side. I've since upgraded to the Canon R5 and couldn't be happier.

I love my SL1. Its hard to justify the money for a little bit of an upgrade. I have never shot video in 6 years. I guess I would choose the 77D. Thank You :)

Don't forget the viewfinder magnification -- Ti7 and 77D are 0.82x and 80D is 0.95x. Also 80D has all the extra dedicated buttons in front of the top screen for AF-mode / Drive / Metering instead of only being available through the on-screen menu. And used prices on it are comparable to the 77D (I got one for $50 less and it didn't have a scratch on it).

Please do a full video on slow shutter photography ,star trail with 77D , T7i or 80D

probably get the 77D as I never make videos with a DSLR and high ISO is a must. though 1/8000 would help with macro.

I got the 77D. Had everything I was looking for and only $619 and no tax. Having a hard time getting used to it as I am coming from a 40D which I have loved for years.

T7i vs 77D - Lock button, Scroll wheel, Display, AF button. Kind of like that? Oh yeah, the price. And yeah the mic placement. Still don't know which to pick ... you get this Lense discount on Canon's website, if u buy the 80D or 77D, at leas here in Sweden. So hm...tough decision.
