I honestly don't think this camera is marketed towards RU-vidrs that are quite camera savvy. Definitely not used for a semi-professional levels of footage. It's so cheap it seems like its more for those that like something really small and all encompassing with the built in stand, stereo mics and native web-cam capabilities. I quite enjoy mine and I have loads of other cameras. It's more just for a fun thing to carry and I don't like to record on my phone (when I go on long walks and hikes I prefer to keep my phone's battery as full for as long as possible). The closest competitor to this camera (Sony ZV-1f) has the same stats (also no IBIS and ONLY EIS) but is slightly larger and more traditional P&S body style without the built-in stand. Great video overall I just don't think it's for you and what you're trying to use it for.
I have never seen a review of this camera talking about its picture taking capabilities because all they talk about is videos. I'm still wondering how good it's point-and-shoot capability compared to smartphones. In my country, point and shoot cameras are dead and the cheapest cameras are those instax(?) I really don't know the name. So this powershot v10 is the next cheapest which is always on sale for roughly $329 when converted.
an iPhone or Samsung phone will take better photos than the Canon V10 on average. You might be able to get some shots appear better, but I would not buy the Canon V10 for still photography.
This seems more a camera aimed at children. The form factor is seductive but it doesn't do anything very well. I'm in the market for a camera for vlogging for my other channel. I looked at this bargain basement edition from Canon and realised this is why I need a real video camera so I'm looking at the genuine 4K video cameras. They start at about $600.
I think the Canon V10 has better 4K image quality, but it's such a limited device. It's best to use on a tripod and has no optical zoom. The Samsung will give you more video and stills options. I had a very specific use for the V10, which is why I got it, but I actually don't recommend this for most people compared to a modern smart phone.
Try taking a selfie or video with the rear main camera on any phone and you'll see the difference.... it's equivalent to using the main camera not the front cam on phones
