This is the song I say when people ask if I was on a deserted island and can only hear one song. It would definitely be this one. Tied with Change of Seasons.
Bro this reaction is one of the realest I've seen. Bro straight absorbed it all and when you really started rocking out during the instrumental parts I really felt that shit too man. That was me the first time I heard this.
Octavarium is a masterpiece of songwriting, composing, technicality, and musicality all rolled into one. Loved watching your reaction to this, and look forward to more.
It is honestly great to see someone like you react to a masterpiece and appreciate real fucking music. I honestly feel like Octavarium by Dream Theater may be one of their greatest songs ever written.
Prepare yourself for over 3 decades of music by Dream Theater. I've been a fan since 1993 when Dream Theater got famous for their biggest radio hit called Pull Me Under. If you react to this song, make sure it's the long 8 minute studio version, not the chopped up MTV version.
its not a direct quote... its a word play, consisting of two references Ripper Owens + Wilson Philips being sang so close to each other, that you hear the two middle words combined togheter saying "Owen Wilson"... The whole part of references is built like that, and gives second meaning when combining the last and the first word of every new reference. Its a genius concept!
Man you got to react to The Glass Prison next from the album Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater. This song will melt your brains out of your ears. There are so many great songs to recommend by Dream Theater. Please react to more Dream Theater. I suggest all of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Train of Thought albums. These albums will change your musical perspective.
Definitely agree...been a DT fan for many years. Saw them live in the mid-90s up close at a small venue in RI. Seeing John Myung slay his 12-string bass up close was amazing. They create so many different layers of sound in each song that each is a journey on its own that you want to take time and again.
I DO like that this HQ version has the flute at the end, but I honestly prefer the original studio recording. In the original, it ends with the start of The Root of All Evil.
Watching you slide off the chair as the final note faded... I felt that too and chuckled a bit. I'm glad you appreciate the journey, and it's wonderful to watch someone get lost in it
IMHO these guys are the best prog metal/rock (everything).. their virtuosity as instumentalists is beyond words.. I've seen them 7 times, met them backstage; simply amazing, beautiful and talented. Pope, you put tears in my eyes watching your reaction.. Kudos!!
You understood the assignment! Dream Theater is always a deep dive into music, emotions and playing abilities most musicians only dream of reaching! Masters of their crafts and truly genius players
So glad you found them! You are on a wild ride through the Dream Theater rabbit hole. You never know what to expect when you hit the play button with them. It can be absolute beauty or power or a combination. My favorite band as a musician myself. Everyone in the band is the very top of their game. Enjoy and I will be along for the ride as well!
I don't normally enjoy reaction vids without much verbalization of thoughts/feelings, but in this case it was acceptable. ;) Greatly looking forward to your journey down the DT rabbit hole. Much love, bud.
Man .....I like the way you FEEL and interpret it. Wow. Yeah Dream Theater alone is a JOURNEY. A lot of great emotion and fascinating music there. “Count Of Tuscany” or “A Change of Season” also a great trip ! Please do more Dream Theater 🙏.
Count of Tuscany is a masterpiece but the lyrics are like...questionnable lol at best. It's just Petrucci getting lost in vineyard beeing scared but it's just two nice dudes saying "hey chill bro we're cool". That's it XD it's a bit over the top compared to the subject but yes instrumentaly it's super sick
I was literally watching dream theater reactions the pther day wondering when someone would react to this song, but I had forgotten the name, i just remembered that it was 24 mins long, and there werent any lyrics until 5 mins in lmao
Got lucky and won a contest to go see them live w/ a VIP pass!!! I'm ecstatic to finally have another chance to hear them live. Favorite band bars none. Excellent choice for a first listen, glad you didn't find the start too slow as it is somewhat a common complaint 😅
Lucky you! You get to see Arch Echo open for them. They are some of the greatest performers and players out there right now. Enjoy the show, Jeff! I'll be seeing them in Houston.
I also won a VIP pass for a meet and greet with Dream Theater back in 2007 in Houston Texas. I also had front row and got to experience Dream Theater's performance of Dark Eternal Night. What a great memory.
You’ve done it! You’ve reacted to the GOATs of technicality! So much more to go from here, bud! Count of Tuscany, Panic Attack, A Change of Seasons, just to name a few. But… if you’re daring enough, and willing to put in a video up to two hours, maybe you could react to Metropolis pt I next, then the entirety of Metropolis pt 2: Scenes from a Memory. Definitely do that if and when you like. It’s a lot to absorb in one sitting so if you choose to do so, be prepared for a hell of a story.
Man, yeah, my first Dream Theater song was "On the Backs of Angels" through the in-game radio on Sleeping Dogs--I was absolutely blown away, especially for a video game. After that, I listened to Metropolis Part 1 and boy howdy that was an experience. From then, I've been obsessed. Dream Theater is a genuine gem amongst so many pieces of sand. The journey Octavarium took you on is not the last one you'll experience with them. I promise you. Good luck, stay safe, and enjoy this art to your heart's content.
You need to react to something live. They are simply amazing. I’m 65 years old and I’ve seen and listened to some of the greatest prog groups, Yes, ELP, Genesis, but these guys top the all. Amazing musicians!
Welcome to the Majesty that is Dream Theater my friend. They are masters of what they do. Octavarium was done live in 2006 in New York City and sounds just as good live. If you want more of their epic stuff check out Illumination Theory live at the Boston Opera House. It was part of their Breaking The Fourth Wall tour and it was awesome to watch.
Im so glad you enjoyed it, and i kind of envy you to discover this amazing band. My first time listening to DT was when i studied music and we were supposed to bring music that we liked to the class and play some and explain why we liked it. A classmate of mine then played "Under a glassmoon" from the Album "Images and Words". I was totally blown away. DT also have alot more songs like this, long epic adventures. For example "A Change of Seasons" and "The Count of Tuscany". If hope to follow your journey through the amazing landscape of DT songs on the channel.
Fun reaction. You really go with the flow. ^^ Dream Theater is one of a special kind. Outstanding musicians. A big and great song too is Elysium by Stratovarius. Give it a try.
Hello One and maybe the best reaction I've ever seen on a DT song, and I've seen maaaaaaaany reactions since those last 15 years Perhaps, U can try in next ones reactions, "Illumination Theory", even if there are sooo many more to discover such as "A change of seasons" etc. Tx and be sure I'll be back to watch more DT reactions U'll make on line ! Reguards and keep safe ! FdC
Next, check out Dream Theater 'Illumination Theory', 'The Glass Prison', 'The Count of Tuscany' and John and Theresa solo spot from Live Scenes of a Memory.
So glad to see someone who let's the music flow through their body like me, wonderful to see the song take you there, great song. To throw my suggestion in, there is a side project for some of the members of DT called Liquid Tension Experiment, I highly recommend checking out their first song of their first album Paradigm shift. It'll have you on the ceiling with all the energy it brings. Keep up the good work!
You really have react to them live to really appreciate. This one in particular in Chile is by far the best. Huge long time fan....pure musicianship from top to bottom....WD4L
Best reaction to this song I’ve seen! I came to your channel for the Rush reactions, but when I saw you do this one, I stayed. Mike Portnoy is the drummer…he’s so inspired by Neil Peart, he was called Mike Peart-noy when he was younger 😁. IMHO, the only drummer who could replace him. Thanks!
A Change Of Seasons is even better, Voices and Scarred also better, anything on train of thought or The album Scenes from a Memory (SFAM), Trial of Tears and Lines in the Sand, Learning to Live, The Glass Prison are all of the S-Tier songs
If you want something of theirs to react to, and want to go on an amazing Rollercoaster of emotions, listen to their entire album Metropolis Pt 2: The Miracle and the Sleeper. It's basically a rock opera (or concept album whatever you want to call it) that tells such a damn good story. It's one of few albums I could call "Perfect from first to last track."
DT fan since 1992 here (for whatever that's worth in your mind) with a suggestion for your next song, Illumination Theory Live at the Boston Opera House. Or, if you want to explore their heavier side, Glass Prison is a perfect launching point. Cheers and keep up the great work!
Welcome to DT world haha :) You will find quite a few big "epics" like this. (the count of tuscany, illumination theory, 6 degrees of inner turbulence) or mid-length great ones too (breaking all illusions, learning to live, a nightmare to remember ...) and so much more ! And don't hesitate to watch the live performances, they are even more impressive ! Enjoy ...
I see that you are a natural guitarist....please go out and get one or two........from your brother guitarist here in Canada.....your timing and intuition look good man :)
That’s a masterpiece! Great reaction! “A change Of seasons” is another amazing song. Try to listen “The divine wings Of tragedy” by Symphony X! You will love it! 🤘🏻
