I spent four hours trying to like the KEF I fixed earlier, but I just couldn't. Cheap subs just sound so ... dirty.

I haven't used a sub in about 11 years, think I put my foot through the speaker (no grille, cos I had to pull it off to repair it, funnily enough!!) when it was under my desk at the time, these days I just use headphones... :P

this is gonna turn into finding lots of broken amps, fixing them, and then selling them on eBay similar to what MaxxArcade used to do. for the off-months when you're not slaving away at the transmitter station. it gets really tiring really quick, but it's a quick buck for not much in the way of effort and time if the fix is a simple one.

I have a canton Ergo AS2 subwoofer and it started to make a strange crackling And now sometimes I hear a random buzz usually when the signal is being changed . Is there a specific capacitor that typically fails ?

Trying to find a fault and not getting anywhere, and a month later the brain goes Oooowww what it...... working :-D. Many years ago i wasnt able to fix a really nice tv, so i scrapped it and kept some of the pcbs......... 20 years later i found them and thought "That part may be handy", guess what i had kept for all those years, yep the dead part. Funny as hell and annoying at the same time, trolled by my own brain LOL :-D

Hey there; if you can help with an idea - I have 2+1amp Piega Tmicro sub; there's volume control mono potentiometer, which regulates voltage of OPamp for 3 channels at once. Volume potentiometer is ok, but does absolutely nothing and stereo AB class amp for satellites is running full volume. On the other side, same volume control regulates sub output, but it is very very low, barely noticable (but works, speaker is playing). Sub has separate board Dclass chip. What could be wrong? I've already replaced OPamp 074C close to the volume potentiometer, but no success. There are more LM837M which may fail in my opinion. All capacitors are ok, also voltage stabilizers seems to be ok. Im quite lost.

Note the stroke width on the logo text, "Cant" and "On" look distinctly different. You can probably tell where I'm going with this

I don't like Subwoofers... says the man who put a Downfire Sub on a table. Maybe think about positioning and configuration. A sub is like a Bass Guitar, it makes the sound warm and full if done right.

Obviously, my opinion is based on listening to subwoofers only on the repair bench. It is true; I have never heard a subwoofer that was not sitting on a table.

Do i see it right that those two beefy caps are what seems to be the power supply/filtering and they are right between the frontend and the power amplifier? lol

I think i have the same problem with mine but no tools to test it. Do you rekon replacngig both microhenry chokes (As I don't know which is faulty) Would sort the problem? Also what is the specification of this particular choke please?

I'm not going to reckon anything with nothing to go on. Try shorting past them if you suspect them, you won't blow anything up if that's the sole issue.

Hello. I have a similar subwoofer (sub 6,2) but it looks exactly the same as yours inside. when i turn it on the light is red and when i connect the sound cabel the light turns off. No sound comes through. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, that sounds like a similar thing to what happened to this one, if I recall correctly - so check to see if this repair applies.

I have a simular (ASF 75 SC )amp that keeps thumping when powered on with or without input in My Canton that have been in the box for 5 years.. cant find the problem with it and i changed the caps with no results.. Enny sugestions?

Try turning the pots back and forth 20 times or so.

FFcossag dident help, ive now allso replaced the TDA but it still rumbles 😕 the part where the pots are is not exatly same as yours so i cant refere to youre video 100%.. i have two mostfetts and some caps where you poke 😕

Not usually thin, I have seen ones near CPUs on motherboards fail and they are partial to one full turn of 12 gauge (AWG) copper wire, they look fine. Really would like to learn more on the failure mode of these.

Big mystery really, inductor loosing contact, the same way as some resistors and capacitors do.

I'll probably come across as a pedantic ass; but come on... 33-140Hz... Thats NOT a SUBwoofer, it's just a woofer. A subwoofer should produce (only) subsonic sound; e.g. up to 20-25 Hz or so... So any 'sub' that produces audible sound cannot be a subwoofer. I blame the marketing people...

What's worse is that there's so much distortion on that signal that there's always 33-140 Hz present, regardless of what signal's actually going in. ;)

You have no knowledge for sure, its 100x more pleasant to hear clean 35-40 capable sub vs 20+ hz horrible soundwaves. No 8-10" bass speaker is capable of pleasing 20-25hz. Good thick rigid sub cabinet and rigid bass speaker are more important things.
