Cape Disappointment in Winter

Along with low pressure systems comes wind. Give the wind a fetch the length of the northeast Pacific Ocean, and it can produce a fairly significant swell.
Early January 2020, a low pressure system produced waves with measured heights between 20- 27 feet that ran into the Pacific Northwest coast. Like many other folks, I headed out to Cape Disappointment, a small (but fairly exposed) headland along the north side of the Columbia River at its confluence with the Pacific Ocean. Here the topography and bathymetry produces some impressive wave interference.
