During my holiday to Cape Town this august, I visited the main terminus station of the city which is also home to the railtour operating company 'Atlantis Rail'. The company operate various railtours on select dates in the year to various destinations such as Stellenbosh, Pretoria and George. They currently own 5 locos including class 24, 25NC, 16DA, 15F and most famously Class 26 'Red Devil'. This video is a brief tour of the site and the locos, hope you enjoy!

Certainly something very different indeed! Lots of very interesting locomotives and items of rolling stock. Red Devil certainly looks a beast! Are any of the steam there still in action? Great work and thanks for sharing

Yea was really interesting! Red Devil is like South Africas equivalent of Scotsman The 16DA (minus smoke deflectors) is the companies operations loco.

@Bluebell-Railway Hawks Dont think the two are comparable. The Scotsman is an express loco whereas the Devil is a loco for fast freight and local trains. One is standard gauge, the Devil is narrow gauge. The Scotsman has around 1600 kW, the Devil puts out a maximum recorded 3350 kW @75 km/h. Not to mention that the Devil is the most powerfull locomotive on narrow gauge worldwide. No - I dont say, one is better than the other ..... But what differentiates the two is: The Scotman is a machine thats showered with love so-to-speak, the Devil is not. AFAIK the SAR doesnt like the 26, they customized her on their own, after Wardale left - and not to the better. Nowadays she is only a shadow of her glory days, tucked away - and not the shining star she would deserve to be, showing the capabilities of the railroaders of South Africa.
