Cape Wrath Trail 2023 - Day 8 - Attack of the Midges!

4 years ago, I was inspired by John from the RU-vid channel @HoundsofHowgate to walk the Cape Wrath Trail. Since then, I have watched many hikers walk this 235 mile, 37500 elevation gain collection of trails and put their videos on RU-vid. These include Sarah from @FitForAdventure, Becky from @GirlOutdoors and Niall and Lisa from @TubbaTravels as well as many others like @HazeOutdoors and @GreysHikes5236. After turning 65 at the end of July 2023, I embarked on my 18 day attempt to join these other intrepid hikers. So join me as I drag my old body over 4x4 tracks, single tracks, pathless tracks, bogs, midges, river crossings and all the weather elements Scotland has to offer. Oh, and since I'm from Glasgow, I've added subtitles to make it easier for folks to understand what the hell I'm saying!

Yes, still smiling even after those midge bites you saw on my leg! Luckily I brought anti itch insect bite lotion!. No idea how the Highlanders wearing kilts and no underwear survived in the past!

Yep! Dig a hole the night before for your number 2! I suffered the consequences!. That's why if you are using a tarp, man oh man!

Wow, those bloody midges. I remember getting in my bikini to have a lovely wash in the river at the bothy but the second we were down there the midges came to bite our bits off. We ran very quickly to the safety of the bothy. Great video

Seriously..a bikini in Scotland..wow brave girl Lisa! 😂 I should have listened to the graffiti scribblings on the wall at the Bothy...they mentioned impending doom for doing a #2!!!

I threw out my gortex boots. Leather, well dubbed for me everytme. 3 layer gortex jacket, thats another story much better. Yep youve got a bit of rain but it hasnt dampened your spirits. I felt for you forgetting your poles at the start of day. Nice one iain.

Yeah on the tips and learnings video after the walk finishes I go into a bit of detail on how useless Gortex is for hiking!

Aye, goretex need,s a temp diff to work properly. Midges are the bane of backpacker,s, bothies are great haven,s away from the fecker,s, another top v,log Iain.
