The Capita Mega Death is a game changer in the snowboard world. Here's everything I thought about this snowboard in an honest review. Filmed by Joseph Bland #megadeath @CAPiTAcinema @UnionBindingCo
Awesome review! I am 5’11 and 240, I ride the new MindExpander 162 but find it too soft, the nose bends when carving groomers. I am out East and ride trees, groom, love to slash pockets of pow. Is the Mega Death could be a good upgrade? 161w or 165w? Cheers
@@danielberube4142 You should find a stiffer nose than the Mind Expander, but the Mega Death nose still has some flex, If you want a stiffer nose, you could go for the 165W, which would work for your weight, it just might feel a long for your height
I just got this board and I’m waiting with bells on for some snow in the PNW. You absolutely rip by the way. I subscribed to your channel just because you’re one of the few reviewers I’ve seen that is a legit great rider.
Thanks dude, I appreciate that, I'm always trying to keep it real out here. Definitely worth the wait till you've got good snow coverage for this board
I’d like to talk about how surfy this board can be. Yeah it holds an edge. Yeah it carves hard. Yeah you can slash it. Yeah it’s fast AF. But when you put 3 -4 inches of pow or slush under it you can back foot surf it and it’s so fun. It feels almost like a spoon as you surf and curve. Tbh, it reminded me of my Capita springbreak powder pill the way it would surf.
Hello. Thanks for all the knowledge sharing and presentations. How would you compare capita mega death and jones Stratos? I don’t do park. I used to ride 2020 Stratos, but sold it recently. Thus I am contemplating between the above 2 boards. thank you.
I got the Mega Merc this year and got my first ride on it at Breck last week. It's my first Capita board and only my 2nd board ever; been riding the same Burton board since 2011. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of Capita now. Your mega merc videos helped with my decision, so thanks! Hoping to someday ride a Mega Death as well.
@@SearchofSnowboardingHi there, should I trade a bramd new Capita Mega Merc 2023 for a Mega Death 2024? O currently ride Mega Merc 2022 for the third season and I am thrilled with it
@@themessner I love both, it depends on how I want to ride on a certain day for which one I'm riding. If you've got a Mega Merc already, the Mega Death would be sick
I got this board but haven't ridden it yet. Thank you for the great review. I've a little issue with the inserts. Wondering if anyone else has struggled getting the screws into the inserts?
I was riding 15, -12 and a 21 1/2 inch stance. And yes I primarily ride this stance on all my boards because that's what my body likes. Thinking I might play with my angles a little this season though
Hi, I just bought a cheap used board for the time being, but was hoping to get bindings/boots that I can use for years to come. Do you have binding recommendations that are as cheap as possible but will also last? Trying to not spend too much until I get a full set one day and I feel like the bindings are a spot I can save money on
this will seem random, but the saturation of the oranges and reds seem off in the skin tones for the sections in the studio. Also maybe consider a reflector or fill light on the bottom. If your lights can do it warm them up a bit and maybe add a light into your background or something. Rad video though! loved your creativeness on the snow gun whale tails
The super doa 156 has been my go to for years now… I’m on my 5th one. This board has caught my attention, I’m 5’8 155lbs 8.5 boot and I’m kinda torn between 156 and 159
GET IT, I switched from Super DOA this season I've only ridden twice so far but enough to tell you that this board rides sooo gooddd and it's Soo light Turning is soooooo satisfying
Compare to the Mega Merc, after this video, i don't know what to choose anymore... ( for "agressive" all montain only, everywhere in the resort. I've got a PYL Uninc for the pow). I've been riding since 1994 (i'm 53), mostly on custom (but i tried many boards), and custom X the last 15 years. I never had a Capita . so , what do you think or wich one do you prefer ? mega Death or Mega Mercury ? merci !! 🙂
Would you choose a 156 or 159? Since you are only 150lbs I would assume 156 best fits your status. But on the review you seems to be really enjoying the 159. Does that means the board shines better at a longer length?
Great review! I picked up the 161W based off the recommendation from a Capita rep (based strictly on weight). I’m going from a 157W to this 161W and having a harder time turning it over in the trees and bumps. I’m 5’11”, 205lbs, 11.5 boot. Do you think I’d be pushing the weight limits of the 159 too much? For how much this thing costs I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of it and as much as I can feel the weight/pop advantage I want to love it for more versatile conditions. I also understand the weight limits of a light board. Thank you for your insight!
I'm 150lbs and I ride the 159. I think the 161W is great for your height, weight, and boot size. It's got a lot of energy and in certain terrain needs a little more force to initiate, which is what you're probably feeling. I'd stick with the size you've got for sure
Shane, what is the best powder board for Japow and Colorado Utah pow. I'm 5’9” 185, size 12 and ride a Yes Standard and Greats as my daily’s. I also own the Aeronaut, Megadeath. Also, whats your Patreon?
Thanks for the support Will, don't have a Patreon as of now. Trying to decide if that is something everyone would be interested in for this upcoming season. Hard to say what the 'best' pow board would be because there are so many sick options out there. I've obviously really been loving the Mega Detah for Colorado and Japan Pow but a few other awesome options are the Burton Hometown Hero, Capita Navigator, Jones Flagship, Lib Tech Orca just to name a few
How would this board be for someone who’s currently firmly intermediate. Riding a 153 Mercury right now but have put on some muscle weight since. I’m 5’7 at 175. Was thinking this in a 156 could be a good all mountain fit.
@@SearchofSnowboarding So my 156 order got cancelled but a 159 popped up on the site. I had a 20% off coupon that worked on it but I'm a bit worried that 159, at the top end of my weight/height might be too long. Any thoughts?
i like the review. how would you compare this to the Mega Merc? I loved the MM and the BSOD, but feel like I'm more of a MM guy: a little more laid back, more into a twin...
Oof, those are all three of my favorite boards but I'll try to break it down. The Mega Death is like an easier ridding BSOD but it still has so much energy if not more. If you liked the snap of the Mega Merc, you'll find more with this board and it is way more fun to carve and ride around the mountain than the Mega Merc. The Mega Merc has been my favorite directional twin, but nothing beats a directional board for freeriding and carving
I was torn in between bsod and megadeath, watched pretty every review and finally grabbed the latest bsod, cuz ppl said it feels damper and kinda more balanced than megadeath, but after watching your review I'm again struggling if it was the right choice. Should I keep the bsod, or should i change it for megadeath?
It seems like the Mega Death is pretty sold out so it might be hard to find until next year. The BSOD is super sick and you got it for a reason so I'd keep it and ride it hard! Get the Mega Death next year if you're still feeling its pull
@@SearchofSnowboarding I was looking for a Mega Death, but you nailed it that they are sold out. I was late to the party on that one. Grabbed an Aeronaut instead with the thought that I may search for a Mega Death next year. I got the Aeronaut over the BSOD as I thought it would be a different feel and shape than the Mega Death. Whereas the BSOD might be more similar to the Mega Death - at least this way I'd have two very different boards when I grab a MD. Thanks for your reviews, I'm really enjoying your channel!! Great niche of you riding and reviewing.
I wanted to get this board but I was reading reviews, and somebody felt it didn’t hold an edge well enough for the east “ice” coast. But they said it’s amazing otherwise on any other type of snow.
We've had icier conditions here than normal, and plenty of people are complaining, and I've still been ripping all over with this board. Ice is ice and I'd say there are not many boards that could fix that
@@SearchofSnowboarding thanks. also, do you know why their smallest size is a 156? i feel like at 140 ish lbs and 5'6", i'm so used to boards around 150cm. weird they didn't make a larger range.
@@SearchofSnowboardingRe hard and icy - if it's not a one run go home day and if your rails are sharp (DIY) then all the board needs is to absorb and dissipate the energy coming in under its forward contact point. I've found that over a decades long riding career, if a board feels perfect out of the box, if it doesn't need to be broken in, it sometimes has a short life. That said boards are getting better and I am finding that top tier boards today don't fold up if you enter a turn too aggressively, and they can really hold an edge in a turn - the good ones you can break loose at speed, drift a little, and then suck your legs back under your body and reset the rail for a hard couple of snappy turns depending on terrain. Today snowboarding can exceed motocross and kiteboarding for just fu*king blowing your mind during a good session. Love your riding and control so thanks for the reviews - I'm bailing on green resin boards for now hoping the *real* epoxies may come back?!
Pretty different, the Mega Death is going to carve better and you'll find a the Aeronaut has a much different feel because of it's narrower width and different construction
I ride a mercury. I do love it, but I love new shit.. so, could the mega death comfortably replace my mercury? I ride medium jumps, side hits, some low key butter too.
Hey thanks for the great video, I have just put an order in for the 2025 model but I believe I need to go up to a 162 instead of 159. Can you recommend what size I should go? I am in between intermediate and advanced I guess, 97kgs, 185cm tall and have 9.5 to 10 US boot. Thanks in advance!
@@SearchofSnowboarding thanks mate, I had to go to another shop to get the 162, seems like they are not that easy to get a hold of here in Australia, limited stock and have to wait til May to get the 2025 model.. Pays to order early I guess :)
I’m not the best snowboarder on the mountain. But I am the fastest. This thing rockets through flats and traverses. You will have to completely reevaluate how far you can travel on flats. You don’t creep past other boarders and skiers on traverses. You blow past them.
@@ninjabic on traverses, other riders will be down in their stance, arms behind their back, trying to eek out any extra speed. And I’ll be standing up arms out to the side whistling as I cruise past them. It’s a whole new level. But it’s also completely stable and predictable. Get one.
Why the hell are some people waiting until they get on the mountain top to scrap wax off their boards? Why don't we all just pollute the mountains we love?
