I did solo it without a rope and go down from K2 ridge. It was a fun memorable day.

If your a fast hiker it only takes one day. And its definetly overhyped. The camera angles make it look more dangerous than it is. Still a great hike! Don't let the hype scare you away from doing it!

17 miles, class 4 & 6000 vert is a big day regardless

I’m a fast hiker and there is no way I could have done this in one day. You would have to trail run the entire 6mi approach, both ways. And yes the GoPro fish eye lens makes it look steeper than it is, but the ridge and the final face is still very scary!

@cdevenney84 i just did this yesterday in a day hike it took me 11 hours from car to car. I did trail run a couple sections on the way down the 6 mile approach but you obviously aren't as ast as you think.

As someone who was born and raised in the altitudes of Colorado mountain towns, who climbed elbert at nine and capital at eleven, (as well as several other 14ers) two days and ropes is crazy. We started at 3a made it back to the car by 6p. No gear besides water, helmets, snacks, good hiking boots, and some unused first aid. You all mustn’t be afraid.

I'm a kansan and I plan to come conquer your 14ers with minimal equipment this summer. I figure elbert will be easy but capitol will be fun. please tell me being an athlete makes it easier.

Because the change of the climate everywhere, many soil and rock conditions have changed in many mountains. Be aware of this as this means loose rock. Someone died on this mountain today. May she Rest In Peace. In 2017, five people died in the span of 6 weeks. Falls seem to happen at Knife edge. No one should fear a hike unless they are not skilled or trained. These type of mountains solo is a risk I think. People say it’s not a beginner’s climb, you should be able to handle exposure, be able to climb a standard route in the dark, be in the best shape in your life and paying attention to all three points of contact at all times. Don’t listen to social media. Get educated on any hike before doing it and BE PREPARED.

We did it in one day, although admittedly it was hours after dark when we got back to the car.

how does this compare to longs peak
@Pepperoni10125
@Pepperoni10125 3 года назад
Longs peak does not exceed class 3. Most of capitol peak is class 4 with high exposure, it is arguably the hardest 14er in Colorado while longs peak probably ranks around the 20th hardest

It's a different animal, Longs Peak is a playground, while Capitol is all business from K2 to the summit. They are both incredibly fun, but you need to take Cap seriously at the top.

Zero snow/glaciers. This is just a jungle gym climb. No technical skills required.

Totally. X-rated, class 4 climbs are not technical at all.
