Capt. Dale Dye, USMC (Ret) became Hollywood's go-to military consultant following a 20-year career in the Marine Corps, including multiple tours in Vietnam. Dye spoke with MOAA contributor Tony Ware about that transition, his mission to shed light on the American service member and drawing on personal experience to accomplish that goal. I have a deep appreciation for the structure and discipline of military life and para-military life. Having spent 4 1/2 years in the Marine Corps and 34 years as a professional firefighter. The desensitization and focus required for both ways of life are the most useful tools for goal accomplishment.

Bless Captain Dye for his service to our military and to his consultation to film making. Watching Band Of Brothers series for the second time. When he appears in his military leadership scenes , it gives me the chills !

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." Arthur Schopenhauer Dream out Loud - From fool to savior. Captain, on top of my years of admiration for you, you have no idea what your testimony here means to me. I too, WILL have a 2 minute pitch. Cheers from Paris - where you have an incredible lookalike, photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand who creataed Earth from Above, and with whom I've had the honor to work. I can't fathom how, after a year, this amazing video has only 13 comments. out of nearly 4000 views!

Capt. Dye BoB ETO is the best war footage ever created (Platoon and Saving Private Ryan close seconds). Please make "No Better Place to Die". Everyone I know wants to see that movie made and that story should be told. Thank you for your service - a truly great American.

Captain Dye hits it right off the bat. I am USMC. I was watching "The Pacific" first episode and they had a 1941 Christmas dinner scene as I recall. And one of the characters says " Here is hoping we are all back here next year and peace is restored." Something like that. And I thought, "No way did anybody think that and the government was clear to stress that a long war lay ahead. " That scene ruined the whole thing for me, and there was lots of other evidence of cluless writers. One thing that I did see and it was total Marine hazing on target. This Marine came over to his buddies and said, "Has Chesty Puller been here to speak yet?" And the one guy says, "You just missed him," when in fact he was just about to arrive.

That's my biggest fear. I love to write and wouldn't mind writing something that involved a war. But I since never served (I'm 47), I'm more concerned about making sure my writing would be believable.

Look at the episode of Star Trek...Deep Space 9... Roswell Incident with Feringi... Funny, entertaining... But episode opens with a Captain lighting up... his captain's bars are on sideways. Was there not one person in the cast or crew who served in the military...or maybe was a service brat? If there was one...had to be glaring... was it a rule in Hollywood that if you mentioned it in a friendly way to a costume specialist or director... that you might never work in that town again? Starman...fun film...but soldiers had berets on top of their heads like puff pastries. Philadelphia Experiment where Marine Captain has silly Afro... A Team where Army colonel chasing them in some episodes wearing a Marine utility cover.. . Films where directors demand that a grenade into a hut sets off 500 gallons of gasoline WTF? Look at the 1930 film All Quiet On The Western Front... Explosions don't use a bunch of gasoline...and look like a mix of everything from French 75s to siege artillery. Effects men...some served in WWI and knew what reality looked like. Same director... Pork Chop Hill 28 years later. Not just explosions realistic...but officers so tired that they can barely think sometimes... YP
