according to cap co-creator jack kirby, this was the first movie to have his and co-creator joe simon's name on it after years of being bullshited by marvel lawyers. but when he attended the premiere, he called the movie a stinker b-picture and his complaints included red skull being Italian instead of a germany nazi and cap hiding his costume under a trench coat for most of the film. he apparently wanted his name removed from the film afterwards

Wow.. I'm German.. I did *not* understand a *word* of what the Germans say^^ I cannot make out what they're saying and it's not what it says in the subtitles... I can teach anyone of you in 5 min how to pronounce 2 sentences and you'll do a better job. Those were Americans with no knowledge of the language whatsoever :D It's like in that Bond movie that takes place in munich with the BMW. Bond speaks 2 sentences of German and English viewers were like: wow, the actor speaks German so well. And we Germans (in the original version obviously) *could not understand a word* so bad was it. Not an accent, no! You couldn't make out a word. He had no instructions how to pronounce a thing, he just guessed^^ Same in this movie.

Called Captain America Starts in Italy I already hate it. But at least they made another movie years later and thankfully, it's a million times better. It's still kinda silly sometimes, but it also has a lot more dignity, better special effects, a better suit, better German, and a better Steve Rogers

My dad told me this movie sucked, I watched it that day and thought it was garbage. But when I saw it as a kid I thought it wasn't half bad but now I can actually listen to the story.

I watched this film when I was a kid in the 90's. It's funny watching folks complain about MCU films and TV shows now, when THIS is what I had to put up with as a Marvel fan who wanted to watch a superhero film back then.

I know I am being REALLY nitpicky but Red Skull was a German not Italian, and the Super Soldier Serum he obtained would be from a cloned body of Captain America years later, not when he was a child. Look, I know it is incredibly sad that I know this, but I can't help it.

Thank goodness for Chris Evans Captain America movies. I'll admit I read a few comics as a kid. When I saw Chris Evans in the movies and the winter soldier made me a fan and read more of the comic books and a bigger fan and respect the character a lot more.

If there’s one thing I can unironically gives this movie credit for, I actually prefer this red skull’s fleshy poorly stitched together Frankenstein look over the MCU one’s clean shiny red head. I also like how they gave him a more tragic backstory and added a LITTLE more nuance to his character (even though changing him to Italian makes no sense) as opposed to being a generic mad scientist obsessed with occult power

Matt Salinger, the actor who played Captain America in this, is the son of JD Salinger, the author of The Catcher in the Rye. What a contrast. JD changed the world of literature, and Matt...well...almost killed Captain America. But to be fair, he wasn't that great of a superhero anyway.

It's crazy when the damn president in your film does more heroic things in just the final act than the main hero does throughout the entire picture! Like he definitely can kick more ass than Captain America 😂

What is it with the camera work in this movie? It's the same issue as Starship Troopers in that the cinematography makes it look older than it is. The film was made in the 90s but, if you didn't know that, you'd think it came from the 40s and was just edited into being colour. The most obvious example was the old bat's house where everything looks like someone sneezed on the camera and couldn't wipe it off before filming started.

I guess Superman is so popular even Marvel has mentioned him in two movies. This one and Sam Raimi's Spiderman

How did he get back to the lower 48 from Alaska? Yeah, you didn’t need a passport to go to and from Canada back then, but you still had to go through checkpoints. There’s a lot of uninhabited wilderness he could’ve snuck through, but they didn’t explain it and it’s a lot of ground to cover however he did it.

6,589 km between germany and washington add that to getting to alska aswell 5,544 km (12,133 km total distance at it's shortest) it wouldn't even make it the 1,033 km to england let alone alaska as the bomb used in the begining was a v1 buzz bomb on the whitehouse miss with a 300 km range at most and he was also fired out on what apeared to be a v2 rocket aswell but even that only has a 320 km range (but logic already went out the window).
