I don't know why everyone's dissing the villain. His motivation is Frank Castle's motivation, but instead of destroying villains he wants to destroy heroes. Makes sense. Plus, he actually WON. At the end, they're broken up. He won.

zemo explained why he didn't try to kill them.. didn't he?.. i thought that he said he didn't kill them because lots of people have tried, but no one has succeeded, so he resorted to trying to get them to kill themselves. i thought his plan was masterful. i'm not all that invested in zemo, he's never been one of my favorite villains, but i loved the way he played the team and really succeeded in driving a stake through the team.

Yup. He explained. When you think about it, he was the best villain before Thanos. THERE I SAID IT! Lolol......but think about it. The Avengers separated is what caused their constant failures in Infinity War.

He says that if they fell from an outside force they would be martyrs who inspired new heroes but if they fought and killed themselves they would truly die.

Zemo is actually the best MCU villain. He accomplished his goal of making an empire fall. He tore apart the avengers plus he is still alive to return later. His motivation is clear. He wants revenge for the death of his family in Sokovia. And I think you guys missed the point, Zemo never wanted to kill Bucky. He simply wanted to use him as a wedge to split the avengers. The winter soldier thing is just a red herring to distract from his actual goal.

+Jarrett Edwards The problem with Zemo is that his plan relies all on chance and coincidence. There's no way he could've predicted his plan to work successfully. It only does because the plot demands it. Other than that, I enjoyed the character very much, and I'm glad they are keeping him around.
@litovietbui
@litovietbui 8 лет назад
Zemo serves a very specific purpose in the structure of this film and I believe the film would not have been as tight as it is without him. Yes, he is essentially a plot device used to force the characters to take action. Most of those moments could have occurred organically given enough time, but with a film so packed to begin with, they needed a character like that to shove them where they needed to be. His plan allows this movie to be 2.5 hours long. Even still, despite the shallow nature of his purpose in the film, they still manage to give the character enough depth to build upon on future films.
@SqueebzEZ
@SqueebzEZ 8 лет назад
+William Anderson How does his plan rely on chance? It's obvious he's been observing them for quite some time so it's likely he understands how Cap and Stark think so he takes advantage of it by using Bucky as a wedge to drive them apart.
@williamanderson4483
@williamanderson4483 8 лет назад
+Jarrett Edwards How did he know the book from the Russians would still work? How did he know the EMP would go off at the exact moment? How did he know Tony would be the one to go to Siberia? All of that happens because the plot demands it to. It felt like coincidence. I'm seeing it again tonight so maybe I'll change my opinion then but that was my first impression with his plan.

Something Hector didn't mention, but I'm sure he was feeling: The conversation between Tony Stark and Peter Parker was beautiful for another reason.... This narrative was immensely dense and historical to Marvel Comics, we are captivated by Peter because, throughout Iron Man and Cap's deeply-rooted conflict, Peter's morality reminds us of how simple things can be. He fights for the little guy.... I got the same sentiment with the famous "I can do this all day line". During that heartbreaking fight sequence, Steve brings us back to his days in Brooklyn, fighting for the little guy.

Everytime Spider-man was on screen I couldn't help but smile. When he is wrestling with Falcon in mid air and screams "You have the right to remain silent!". Everyone was amazing as expected especially Black Panther. A man on a mission and I seriously cannot wait for the Spidey and BP solo film. And Crossbones was fucking badass while he lasted. Sucks that he died but Thanos is coming and I don't see how the character could be of any use in the upcoming films since this was prob the last Cap movie. I want to praise all the actors and their characters but I don't feel like writing an essay haha.

Zemo was a guy who lost his family and his ultimate plan was to show tony the footage, which was in Siberia. Also Zemo's dad wasn't quite explored so there is a potential reveal that he could have been part of hydra in ww2. Zemo was also left alive unlike some MCU movies so there is also a potential that he could learn about his father's past and lead hydra while also leading the master's of evil, which would be cool

+Mrinal Ganash I think many people missed Zemo's plan... his ultimate plan wasn't about tony, that part is a bonus because it wasn't certain it will happen that way. His plan is more malleable... he essentially already won the moment Cap saved Bucky. Everything else is just snowballing bonus.
@rhaspodel
@rhaspodel 8 лет назад
+Mrinal Ganash I was thinking exactly like that. Many people just observed Zemo as another wasteful use of a villain in a MCU film unlike others aka Loki; but for Zemo, I agree 100% I think this is one of the few times that we actually have a villain that was truly fueled by emotion, to get revenge; and not just personal ego to rule over something. And plus though Zemo was the central antagonist, the majority of the film's story centered on how Cap and Iron Man's relationship, which was partnership-turned-friendship-almost brotherly now turned antagonistic.

Zemo wants revenge but he doesn't want to kill an Avenger. As Coulson proved, death brings the Avengers together. Zemo said it best himself: an empire destroyed from outside, can rebuild, an empire that destroys itself is dead forever. He didn't want to kill steve or bucky or tony specifically. He wanted the team destroyed. And in a way, he got his revenge. The avengers are broken apart. Sure, Steve sent an apology letter an a promise to help if needed, but that innocent band of brotherhood? That's gone. That's gone forever.
@TeejayLeeson

+Moist Von Lipwig Which is why I'm sad now lol. My prediction is that the "two teams" will assemble ONLY to beat Thanos. Their bond may be gone forever, but they'll work together when needed. Kinda like the first Avengers. None of them really liked each other, but they assembled when they needed to. Once they finished, they went their separate ways

5 years later, look at the outcome of infinity war. the teams are splitted instead of coming together to face thanos and his army. Imagine Cap's team in wakanda came to work with Tony, Doc Strange, Spidey, and the Guardians? the fact that the outcome would've been different and the realities that Strange saw would've been different if they were united at that time. Zemo messed up many things 😂 it literally affected the events after civil war

When I watched Civil War, there was certainly much of emotional investment in this, I agree. You do feel for all the characters and I also agree with Augustin, that when both Captain America and Iron Man were fighting, it hurt like hell because for me, it felt like "Mum" and "Dad" fighting and I just desperately wanted them to stop and get along. I loved this film, and it is also difficult not to compare it with Batman v Superman being a DC fan myself but Civil War definitely exceeded all my expectations.

I've seen the movie four times now. Still not tired of it. I'd probably see it another 3-4 times before its out of theatres. So many things that come together more beautifully after repeated viewings. The VFX is ore cohesive in 3D and even better in imax but is technically the only flaw I found in the movie. I'm mourning the day the Russo Brothers move on from handling this ensemble cast but can't stop peeing in my pants for Infinity Wars. And Civil War gets a 9.5/10 from me. #teamcap

Completely agree with the maturity. They have to keep on raising the stakes and not completely cater for children but rather for those who are ageing whilst the MCU expands, because come Infinity War, characters are going to have to die for it to work, even if it's the favourites.

There are many hints in the movie that Zemo really is a mastermind chacacter that was meant to be underrated (in the movie Zemo is capable of de-encripting files, creating a mask that looks just like Bucky's face; he is from a group of assassins that could be a bit of a evil version of shield. Zemo knew to plot the timing of each step; cause an explosion at the UN, he knew to call the motel staff to order his breakfast so they find the dead psychiatrist...I think that Zemo is like a chess player and had moves and countermoves. He is also a hacker so the information that was not official was gathered on all of the avengers. Thus he fed info that he made sure would reach Tony Stark so that Tony would go find the location at that point. Yes it seems a little convoluted but the Russo brothers and screenwriters went over every scene and storyline to make sure it makes sense. So cross our fingers for a future Masters of Evil!

The thing with Tony that sent me to TeamCap from the beginning is that it was his recklessness that led to Ultron (and therefore Sokovia) and then he demands that "THEY" have gotten out of control and need supervision. Yet he's one of the least compliant people on the planet? Then as soon as Ross shows up... UGH. What do you think will happen with Rhodey in the upcoming films? :'(

Solid points, super dudes! I loved when Spidey tongue-in-cheekly addressed Cap's two most unrealistic aspects: the shield that doesn't obey physics and "aim for the legs." If Vision's blast did that much damage to War Machine, what would have happened if he had actually hit Falcon?? A House of M(CU) would be cool! Maybe instead of going crazy, Wanda just tries to bring peace in the next Avengers movie by saying, "No more enhanced." Then they realize that's not the best move so they have to take the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos to fix it. "Homecoming" was one of the words in Bucky's brain scramble recipe; do you think there will be any connection to the Spider-Man title? Also, when Parker hid half his face with the towel at the end, it reminded me of the old school comics where they'd do that split-face Spider-Man/Peter Parker. I left this movie feeling the exact opposite of how I did after BvS. I can't wait to see it again! #TeamGiantMan #TeamArrowGuy

in the Civil War comic they were all out of character but in this movie Tony's reaction I felt was completely genuine his entire life was built around his father from his business and his lifestyle, there was so much that should have been said that wasn't and being confronted by the man you know is someone responsible I can't say I wouldn't have reacted any differently. And for captain Bucky's best friend and he will fight for him to the very end. in Daredevil season 2 it was the battle between Justice and revenge and how far one man should be able to go. I bought both of them Hook Line & Sinker . But in the case of Batman v Superman they were both so out of character it pulled me out of the movie. Batman is a character completely set in his beliefs an immovable object who has dedicated his life to One cause and one cause only Justice but we'll never compromise or give into temptation because that will make him no better then the people he puts away. And Superman is a Beacon of Hope not because he tries to be but because it just comes natural it's who he is. his powers just amplify that. And Lex Luthor is a Madman not because he's crazy he truly believes he's saving the world from people like Superman who's mere presence challenges everything we know and understand and by default makes Lex feel smaller and forces him to realize his place in the in the grand scheme of things, so he must destroy Superman in the eyes of everyone to make him smaller and himself larger classic egomaniac. Batman v Superman literally failed to deliver on any of this. A Batman who's thot processes is I have to kill him to make sure he doesn't kill any more by killing anyone who gets in my way. And Superman everyone hates me so I don't want to be Superman anymore even though they hate me because I am indirectly responsible for the deaths of Millions. and Lex Luthor whose plan is make the man killed a god by tricking him into stealing Kryptonite from me instead of giving it to him and them and case it doesn't work I'm going to design a Kryptonian monster to kill God even though I have absolutely no way of controlling it or stopping it after it kills God. All to prepare the world for the destruction that's coming by the hands of dark side who is also a god but I like him ping ping PS I have an awesome graphic design team who make your logos just call me I'm in Iron Gate prison.

I went into this movie excited but not exactly knowing what to expect and I really really liked it. I think it might even be my favourite movie Marvel has come out with so far. I watched it fir the first time on the 6th, in a full teathre and it was really great. Something I want to adress that no one mentioned in any of the reviews I've seen is how they used Sebastian Stan's origin - him being a Romanian and then having a scene in that country. As a Romanian myself, we don't really get to see characters from here without the funny accent, so seeing Bucky actually talk a bit of Romanian (and for it to not seem forced) was a really pleasant surprise. The funny thing is, everyone who was seeing the movie at that time, with me, was expecting English or Russian, so no one figured out it was our language until about three lines in the conversation - and then everyone freaked out. It was so unexpected and, again, they found a use for a skill Sebastian had that maybe not that many people knew about, and it was overall great. I guess I just wanted to share that.

I think Zemo was a smart move. He's the first baddie who's not Loki and survives his movie. I mean, this Zemo, leading an MCU Masters of Evil, would be awesome. Another well thought out, un-biased & ear massaging movie review lol I love that Marvel has given all these characters there time in the sun b4 setting up all this stuff, and that's what I think DC is lacking with this recent cast. I'm so glad u guys addressed BVS & the comparison to this movie. People act like there's a great Wall of China between these two gigantic franchises & people can't come over to each other's side & have conversations on them. I feel like DC are trying to hard to compete with the Avengers & rushing Justice League, without really fleshing out each member in their own separate movies/journey. We seriously needed that vibrant, smiling & heroic Superman b4 all this world against Supes thing & all this setup stuff 4 JL is hurting the character. I just wished they'd slow down & give us at least a MOS2, Batman, Wonderwoman & Flash movie b4 setting all this stuff up. They should've just named the move "Dawn of Justice" cause it never really felt like a real vs movie to me.

Moist Von Lipwig, I don't know how they jumped to that conclusion. I got the distinct impression that the Sokovia Accords had been in the works since after AoU (being that it wasn't called Lagos Accords and how long governments take to make agreements). I think Lagos just sped things up. I also think Tony Stark knew about it for a while because when Secretary Ross was talking, Steve looked at him like "why didn't you give us a heads up" and Tony took forever to look at him. The byplay was really good in this movie.

Well.... have to say that I felt just like Hector and Agustín watching this movie. Like I have said before on many of my previous comments on other videos... I have been waiting to see all these characters in the big screen for so fricking long that since that first Blade movie hit the theaters I've been in nerd nirvana. Obviously you are going to like some movies more than others, but this movie had me smiling a giggling like a little kid the whole time. I LOVED every second of it! When I was a kid I was a DC Comics fan and never read a Marvel comic. It all changed with that 90's X-Men cartoon. I started buying X-Men comics like a mad man. And every time a non X-men character made a cameo I had to run back to the comic book store to get his/her comics. And that's how I became a "rabid" Marvel fan. Don't get me wrong... still love DC, Image and Dark Horse comics too. But I love Marvel just a tinny bit more. I mean... Black Panther, Spidey and... fricking Ant-Man turning into Giant-Man. Did you see Ant-Man's eye expression when he became Giant-Man? Well.... that was me.... during the whole fricking movie! lol Captain America - Civil War was DE LA PUTA MADRE!!!! YESSSS!!!!

It's been years since the movie came out, but thought I'd point out that Tony is easily manipulated by guilt. Examples: Coulson's Death, Ultron's creation, guilty philanthrophy when he green lits every student's project at Civil War cause he felt bad abouy Pepper. Then kid "with a bright future" is killed in Sokovia. Cap doesn't take guilt as much as Tony cause he knows the cost of war as he says in Avengers. He's used to losing people in war, but Tony isn't.

I have a hard time figuring out Zemo. I think making him Sokovian was an interesting move to drive him. Now you asked why did he make them fight each other. Yea there were better ways to get payback on the Avengers but making them slowly kill each other is actually pretty evil. It's not the most effective but I don't think that was the point for Zemo. He wanted it to be satisfying to him and he seemed to enjoy it well enough. With that in mind, I feel like Zemo was one of the better movie villains in the MCU so far. I would have liked to have seen him more closely resemble his comic counterpart but I don't see how they could have done that AND made him fit into the story the way he did. At least give him the purple mask haha. You do bring up an interesting idea about Zemo possibly starting the Masters of Evil later. We have Blonsky, isn't Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo still alive? It's been a while since I last watched IM2. They can do that.

When winter soldier, stark and cap were watching the 1991 footage, then Tony confronting Steve- I could see the deep regret in Steve's face, and the switch flipping in Stark with this betrayal.... This was such a huge moment that tore my heart, considering every moment these two have had together throughout the MCU....

Zemos point was that he knew he couldn't beat them but he thought he could tear them apart and make them beat each other. His plan worked. He may not be the most powerful of the MCU villains so far but his actions are the farthest reaching. The avengers are split largely because of him. they almost killed each other.

Every movie has plot holes, forced script moments, and inconsistencies. There is plenty you could pick at in this movie like with BvS, but if it's a well made movie and respects the characters to a reasonable degree, the problems do not overwhelm the enjoyment of the movie. That was the difference between my enjoying this movie and being disappointed by BvS... and I'm a self confessed DC fanboy (even at 44 years old) I just want to enjoy a good movie. Hoping for a great Wonder Woman movie. :)

Marvel is going to kick so much ass this year... And I like this review. I think there are problems with the film - *ahem* length *cough!* - but they somehow managed to approach these characters in a new way, especially my favourite, Spider-Man. They made him a awkward kid who really sounds like a New Yorker from Queens. There was something very charming and sweet about this. And, like the comic, I think Webhead will be changing teams to help out an old soldier. Now, let's wait for the X-Men... 👍🏾

I have to tell you, I am very worried about X-Men: Apocalypse based on the trailers. If it's great, fantastic. But if not, then let it suck really hard so Fox has to make a deal with Marvel like Sony did. Instead, it'll probably be somewhere in the middle--and thus help bring excitement about superhero movies down like Bats vs. Supes did. I worry about that very much.
@MrUndersolo

Third, do you work for one of the studios, because that is the only reason I can see why I am having this texted conversation about a compliment that no one else cares about. And, I will repeat it: MARVEL IS KICKING ASS! Go "X-Men: Apocalypse"!

I know, I posted this in the non spoiler video, or at least I think I did, but I like how there's sort of a hierarchy to the character dynamics in this movie relative to the themes and conflict. In contrast to both Avengers movies (which seem to go out of their way to make sure that everyone has equal story relevance [except Thor in Ultron, sort of]) this movie has a very clear descending hierarchy of who has most bearing on the themes and plot; 1. Steve, Bucky and Tony are all sort of shared protagonists, 2. Zemo and T'Challa who have almost as much to do but aren't really in on the emotional struggle of the above three, 3. Wanda, Vision, and Peter, who are all firmly supporting roles but of the supporting characters have the most focus and reflect the themes of responsibility most clearly, 4. Natasha, Clint, Sam and Rhodey, all of whom are just as relevant as Wanda/Vision/Peter but who's values and representations relative to guilt and responsibility are alluded to less explicitly. 5. Scott, who of all the powered characters is definitely the one who's absence would be least conspicuous if you just took him out of the movie, but who still works as a representation of anti-authority altruism the same way Steve does. 6. Ross and Sharon, who are mostly there to be the more broad representation of Steve and Tony's sides.

To these people who were saying that the movie sucked and there was no good story plot and no huge consequences, you were wrong. There were huge consequences. Captain America, who was supposed to be a hero has become a fugitive, and the Avengers are split apart because of this conflict. That itself is the consequence of this movie. Sure, they will bring them back in Infinity War, but it will lead you to think if they will ever work like they did in the first Avengers. No one had to die. Rhodey being paralysed was already very bad. And the villain was subpar, like all other MCU villains, but it was not THAT convenient that all three of them were there. All in all,this was a good movie and the action was amazing. going to see it a second time this week.

Zemo is more of the embodiment of collateral damage. He thinks the avengers are a virus after losing his family in AOU. In contrast to Miriam, Zemo was proactive by spending his time studying the avengers and decrypting hydra files leaked by black widow in CA:WS. After using Bucky as catalyst for the conflict between avengers and finding out that there are even more dangerous winter soldiers, he went to kill them because he doesn't want anymore collateral damage because Bucky alludes to the fact that they can cripple a nation without people knowing. Once Cap, Bucky and Tony were all in place, he played his ace card, the video of tony's parents murder, thus disassembling the avengers without throwing a single punch himself. That's how I see it anyway. Love you channel, great insight and discussions on here. Started reading the entire Hudlin black panther run.

Terrific as always guys, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie too, 9/10 from me. I have to say though I somewhat disagree with your thoughts on Zemo. I think Zemo is probably the best Marvel villain to date. He wasn't motivated by world domination and what not, his motivations are completely reasonable in that he lost everyone he cared about due in part to the Avengers. He's also the only Marvel villain to defeat them and basically win, even if indirectly. More or less, he achieved his goal - to split the Avengers down the middle without the status quo returning by the end of the film - and he's just a regular guy with military training. He doesn't use any powers or tricks to achieve this, all he needs is a video tape.

They managed to make clear that he is not only a very intelligent, very charming man (and of course a superhero), but also a wise and great man. The other thing that I really liked about the movie was the human element. It was all about the relationships between the characters, about their friendship. This is what makes the movie work. I love you guys' videos! But my comment has more to do with the general consensus of reviewers' and youtubers' thoughts on Zemo and something they don't mention: he succeeds in his plan. I think his plan is more Littlefinger, Petyr Bealish in GoT, and less Lex Luthor in BVS. Lex's plan is convoluted and unimaginably convenient, while Littlefinger's is complex and partially improvised. Littlefinger is inciting chaos within the realm and Zemo is inciting chaos within the avengers. They are splintered, we will see them come together again probably, but for now they are not together and have real grievances with one another.

You guys are great. Really enjoy these videos. Watched all your videos regarding Captain America: Civil War. Keep up the good and enjoyable to watch work. Now that you've seen it, I have some questions. Which team were you on, each of you, at 3 time frames? #1: Based on your comic book knowledge without any input from the MCU? I know that kinda leaves Adam out because of what he's admitted which doesn't matter cause I'm the same way. Never read any Marvel Civil War comics. #2: Based on just their expert knowledge of just the MCU prior to this movie? #3: After seeing the movie Captain America: Civil War? Again, I'm in similar situation as Adam, I don't have answer for #1. #2 I was neutral. #3 I'm Team Cap. I'm sorry but we, humans, are just that, humans. We have our own agendas and, for most, it usually involves getting more power or more money. The Avengers are about the greater good. Cap's correct, "safest hands are still our own!" They are! Why? THEY'RE SUPERHEROES!

I have to totally disagree with them on Zemo. He's my favorite villain after Loki. All his motivations worked and his plan wasn't convenient his plan was evolving. There were many times where his plan didn't go exactly where he wanted but he adapted to as need be. If Tony somehow didn't make it to the Hydra base then Zemo would have adapted his plan and leaked it online or send it to Tony. That's the whole point. Zemo was just demonstrating how flawed these heroes are in that they're just humans who can be broken just as much as anyone else. And he didn't even throw one punch. I thought Zemo was genius and not some typical villain but he had a depth and brilliance to him that really made this movie as amazing as it was. I didn't want him to release the five super soldiers that would have been a cliche ending and actually would have been a disservice to Zemo's plan because it would have united them not break them even more which is what he did. At the end Zemo won, the Avengers are broken and disbanded and many of them don't trust each other anymore. Rhodey can't walk anymore. Bucky has to go back in the freezer. Black Widow is on the run. Vision is all alone and lost Wanda. It's all broken and it was done by one man who was patient and adapted to any scenario he was presented with. I can't wait until they bring back Zemo in the future.

Also one point about Tony and the Accords, the mom of the dead kid (Alfre Woodard) actually mentioned that she worked at the State Dept. Implication that she may have been involved in the development of the Accords. Even if not, it showed that Tony was recruited or coopted by Ross, not the other way around.

I think you all have 100% the wrong approach to Zemo. The whole point of Zemo was that he wasn't "Baron Zemo" or some guy in a suit that makes a good poster image. He was a regular guy with a very simple motivation with a very simple plan: Get the tape, and show the tape to Tony Stark. Use people's perceptions and preconceptions against them. I loved that he was always a step ahead of Steve Rogers, but that his only real goal was to make Tony Stark and Steve Rogers suffer LOSS. He wanted them to hurt. He didn't want to kill them, because that wasn't really a punishment. I liked that this whole conflict between Tony and Steve was about the circumstances and the fallout from their own previous actions, not about some random moustache-twirling villian in a cool costume. Zemo was the face of all the Sokovians and other people who have suffered the fallout of super-powered people's epic battles. And he exploited and manipulated the circumstances in a beautifully subtle way, which makes him my favorite Marvel villain so far (other than Loki, of course).

Regulation needs to be addressed. Everyone should be part of the Sokovia Accords, even those who have different ideas. I know Rorschach is DC but he said this: Never compromise, not even in the face of armageddon. Well, sometimes we have to compromise. And Steve should have talked with Tony about the death of his parents, he knew Howard Stark, he should have done the right thing by his friend's son, and tell him everything. Its the lack of communication that causes conflict… Secrets are poison.

Superhero News! I really enjoyed your review! When you see the movie again; note that the new supersoldiers were not controllable and were a liabilty to hydra thus why they were just left behind. Zemo said "I am not interested in more of you". They were only a step in his plan to get Iron Man to see the video of his parents murder. Also there is a part in the movie when he comments that stonger men than him could not kill the superheroes- only they could tear each other apart. His goal that he planned since Sekovia was to destroy the Avengers and he did succeed. Now Cap (Nomad?) and his friend are forced underground and they all took a psychological beating, they paid a price no matter what side they remain on. Like Zemo said "did I really fail?". Zemo is a master manipulator and I do suspect that he will be back in the future and hopefully collecting baddies from the "raft"to become the :"Masters of Evil"!

Cool review dudes. Disagree with Stark though, even if accountability absolutely makes sense. Given what happened in the pervious films, the safest hands are still their own. Collateral damage is unavoidable. Corruption is everywhere and with the super powered beings under the control of the government, anyone would use that to their advantage even if it's for accountability and safety, agendas change as Captain Rogers pointed out.

so two things 1) you guys were talking about how Tony sees many moves in advance and they even mention that in the illuminati issue of Road to Civil War. Tony tell everyone that he and Reed aren't like them and that are they forward thinkers (or something along those lines). So that's a great testament to the MCU that us fans get that impression from MCU Tony. 2) Steve didn't join the war because Bucky did. I liked what you were saying with that whole sequence but i have to disagree a little. I don't think Steve is defined by his friends as much as you do, I simply think he values the hell out of all his friendships. Maybe he said at some point he wanted to go to war because Bucky did, but I don't remember that and doesn't seem right to me. Part of what makes Cap great is that he always wants to help good people. He wanted to go to war because he though good people were being "bullied". Great review again, I found you guys from your BVS review and you're now my go to channel for some good comic talk, or really just nerd talk. Keep up the good work and thanks!

Another great review guys! At times, I was literally bouncing up and down in agreement with several of the things you guys mentioned throughout this review! First things first! Hector, will you have my babies?! I was right there with you with the whole 'weeping' or "welling up with tears of joy" over the Peter Parker, Spider-Man we were finally given in CA: CW. As a kid growing up reading comics as often as I could, Spidey was without question by favorite as well...matter of fact, I still have my collection of the 'Web of...' series that was the reason I was pulled into comic books as a boy in the first place. Although, as I have aged over the years, Superman has become my favorite hero (ever so slightly edging out others like Spider-Man, Green Lantern, Batman, Dr. Strange, Thor and Cap...), Spidey was my favorite as a kid. Spidey will always hold a near and dear place in my heart as the hero that built the foundation for this comic book nerd's love for the genre/medium. Throughout all of the Spider-Man movies we've seen up to this point, I could never quite place my finger on what it was about those iterations that left me feeling empty and disappointed. Yes, I could point my finger at specific things that irked me, such as Tobey Maguire's interpretation sounding too whiny or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man coming off overly cocky and perhaps a bit too cynical. However, it wasn't until seeing Spidey in CA: CW that I was able to pinpoint exactly what it was that was missing! For me, CA: CW reminded me that in those renditions of the character, what was missing was Peter Parker's innocence and humbleness, particularly his deep realization to his new-found responsibility, while staying grounded and connected to his past humility ; something that the CA: CW script and Tom Holland nailed in this film! The only other non-comic book version of Spider-Man that I feel gets this right is perhaps the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series. I can't remember exactly what it is that Stark says in the previous scene before CA: CW transitions over to its first Spidey scene, but I knew the scene was coming (solidified upon seeing the word Queens on the screen). At that moment, the immediate thought that sprung to my mind was, 'I hope this scene with Peter doesn't feel forced.'...which is exactly what it did feel like...at first. Fortunately, for me, the scene did exactly what it needed to dissolve those feelings. That scene was brilliantly done on so many levels (writing, directing, acting) to alleviate what the directors must have known was something they had to address in order for that scene to not feel contrived. That scene not only satisfied my concern(s), but won me over for the rest of the film and I was able to enjoy the rest of the brilliance of Spidey in this movie. Furthermore, that scene with Spidey and the "Hey guys! Remember that really old movie..." may have been my favorite line of the whole film! That line was utter genius! Not just because it was a fitting line for that part of the scene, or even because it's a shout out to the huge Star Wars fans out there (like me); it was genius because it once again magnifies Peter Parker's innocence, which is something Spider-Man comic book fans are so used to seeing. Amidst all of this action and violence, you are reminded that Peter Parker is just a kid! For me, this is what I feel was sooo missing from the previous movie versions of Spider-Man. It is clear to me why Marvel went the route of finding someone younger to play the role and it works beautifully! Next, that part with Ant Man shrinking and going inside of Starks armor also alleviated concerns I had going into CA: CW. Concerns that a Cap team with Ant Man and Scarlet Witch would be too powerful and could easily overcome the other team; namely with Ant Man quickly taking out the Iron Man suit and leaving that team down one of it's big guns. This is a complaint I made in an IGN CA: CW trailer reveal in which another IGN member said that they may address this and they did. Once again, kudos to the writers and the Russo brothers for putting on their comic book nerd thinking-caps and realizing what needed to be addressed! In addition, I'm curious and can't help but wonder if the scenes with Anthony Mackie (Falcon) using his wings as a shield was an easter egg or hidden message to fans regarding his future role as Cap? Oh and Augustine, I was thinking the exact same thing as your girlfriend during that scene with Vision in regards to him feeling emotion for Scarlet Witch, which resulted in his error in calculation. That was further cemented by his discussion after with Tony in which Tony states something along the lines, of 'that's not like you. You never make mistakes.' or something to that effect. Thinking through this further, I can't help but wonder if Ultron's ability to feel emotion was somehow passed on to Vision. Because, if you think about it, Ultron felt a lot of emotion (albeit anger and revenge) and Vision, a.k.a Jarvis never led us to believe this before hand. All in all, without rambling on too much, I absolutely loved CA: CW! And this is coming from someone that was not a big fan of the Civil War comic book story arc simply because I never felt like it gave a good enough excuse for the two sides to be at odds worth fighting over. For me, however, the story in CA: CW does a much better job of this! In the film's adaptation of CW, I could appreciate and get behind each character's motivation (even though Hawkeye's motivation may have been the one that wasn't really explained, well thought out or justified). For me, this movie exceeded my expectations. Story-wise as a whole, the movie was great; action scenes were mostly amazing (aside from the jerky camera movement on some); the acting was really good! In terms of the writing and directing, there was so much brilliance in this movie on so many levels for me, particularly character moments that made me believe that the writers and directors were distinctly familiar with and appreciative of both the characters and much of their source material. Matter of fact, the writing and directing in this film was on such an other-worldly, genius level that if someone were to tell me it was crap, I would merely attribute it to them simply not knowing the character/source material enough to appreciate what the writers/directors did in this movie. These guys now their $#!%. Frankly they did such an amazing job in my eyes and that image where Iron Man's repulsors meet Cap's shield just like in the comic?! Damn that gave me goosebumps! I'm not sure it's possible for CA: CW to have been in better hands! Even with one of my favorite Marvel characters M.I.A. (with Thor somewhere investigating the Infinity Stones), I can still say that CA: CW is in my top 2-3 favorite comic book movies. My only gripe with this film is the jerky camera movement during action scenes...which was awful! Thankfully I don't get motion sickness, but I can't help feel for people that do who want to watch and enjoy this film. This really ruins some of the action scenes in this film IMHO and I won't be surprised in the least if that is a major on-going complaint with movie-goers. As a long time comic book nerd, I thoroughly enjoyed CA: CW and really hope others see the same merits in it that I have. While I did also enjoy BvS, as a huge Superman fan and DC guy too, I agree with you guys, I do wish DC had used the same formula for BvS as Marvel and had already slowly laid out the foundation leading up to the film. I did really enjoy BvS, but can just imagine how much better that film would be had it a similar approach as the MCU. Unfortunately that's the downfall of playing catch up rather than being the pioneer in your respective industry. :( [Sorry for such a long comment; just extremely passionate about this stuff!]

Great review!! But.. for me two things were missed. One - a funny "relations" between Falcon and Bucky and TWO- that moment when Cap drops his shield at the end. That was heartbreakin! What do you guys think about that..?

When I saw the word "Queens" I almost teared up! As for when Iron Man scans Cap for his fighting style, I rember that in one of the Amazing Spider-Man tie-in comic books to civil war (I think issue #534), when spidey is fighting against cap, he tries to find a "pattern" in the way he fights but he can't because it is like a single rapid movement that goes on and on..I think Hector will rember it, that was an epic scene :D

Cap is just... right. For me, the "villain" of the movie is Tony. He doesn't know it, but he makes the wrong decisions and he fucks shit up.

I loved Baron Zemo. Because he was in the background and you didn't know all the time what he was up to, till the end of the movie. Was much more interesting then, oh he wants that, ok. Also it focused so much more on the conflict between the Avengers and not another Villan that just wants to destroy everything or rule everything.

I absolutely LOVED Tom Holland's Spider-Man. I jumped out of my seat when he and Black Panther appeared! Holland's Spidey was SO perfect in the way that the movie captured his scientific prowess (for example, how he cracked a joke about Cap's shield defying all laws of physics or how they touched on him creating the web fluid) and how the movie touched on the fact that he was a novice fighter and very inexperienced in his superheroing. And don't get me started on BP! The movie did his character the UPMOST justice. His fighting style, his vibranium claws and suit, and the stress put on him while holding the mantle of king and protector of Wakanda. The movie did so well in presenting everyone's powers and physical skills, and how they matched up to one another. Every character involved in the fight had a specific responsibility and skill set which they integrated into battle. I mean c'mon, the airport scene was badass but how they showed each mini-fight within the grand battle was f**kin genius!

I have a solution for Bucky/Winter soldier: make him deaf so the code words from Hydra won't work on him anymore coz he can't hear anything :D

+robertshuxley What if they write those words in a piece of paper and show him? It will still affect his brain. Oh right let's make him blind. Now that he's blind, what if they make him read those words in braille? Oh yeah let's cut his hands off. Very smart.

Nila Dharan his brainwashing was conditioned and triggered only by spoken words as shown in the flashback so making him read the words won't cause him to go psycho again

I was really hoping we'd get that "You Move" speech somewhere in the movie, and the fact that I got it automatically makes this movie a 7/10 for me lol. And it was even better because it was almost like it was Peggy's last words to Steve, and they sort of summed up the theme of his character in the movie.
