THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF JIM STERANKO’S CAPTAIN AMERICA
2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of writer/artist Jim Steranko’s Captain America trilogy that many still consider the greatest Captain America story ever told, for both its story and its art. The impact of Steranko’s three issues, a tour-de-force of the firebrand’s verbal and visual storytelling skills and talents that branded him the Jimi Hendrix of Comics during Steranko’s similar meteoric rise to fame in the late-‘60s, is in converse proportion to their small number. Join comic book art historian Arlen Schumer (The Silver Age of Comic Book Art) as he revisits, and revels in, Steranko’s Captain America magnum opus.

Thank you for such a great lecture! These books blew my mind when I discovered them in my uncles comic box in the 70s. I feel honored to have met, talked and hung out with Steranko a few times since and the signed copies of these 3 issues of Cap are my most treasured in my collection.

As much as I love & respect Kirby I believe that Steranko is still the greatest comic book artist of all time who took the medium to a whole new level that has never since reached that pinnacle again.

Love this scholarly account of sterankos art. I wish others could follow your dedication to the artists intent in their own presentation of comic history. I followed your suggestions on the writer's you gave me and now I find myself wondering how you would handle a writer/artist such as Starlin. As always thank you for your hard work and thank you for explaining how my favorite comics were created.
