Better late than never, mate! Any fan of the Magic Captain's is a friend of mine! I was lucky enough to discover him at the tender age of 17, back in '72... when I saw him live, for the first time, at Bickershaw Festival... Britain's answer to 'Woodstock'! What a fab weekend... in spite of the fact that it also rivalled Woodstock for the rain and the mud... in fact, I think Bickershaw had Woodstock beat hands down for the rain and the mud! But the Magic Capatain's set was so magical it set me up as a life-long fan! (Often to the dismay of my mates! LOL!) All the best mate, from Down Unda! Have a nice day! 😁
"Ashtray Heart" live on SNL was AMAZING.Can't imagine how intense it was to see on TV in 1980. John Belushi is the reason Capt BH and Fear were on SNL in 80 + 81.
Definitely one of the best songs on Clear Spot. Brilliant in showing just how diverse this man could be. Compare this to anything on Trout Mask Replica. This dude could do everything and do it well. One of the greatest artists in the history of music, no doubt about it.
If you LOVE the Captain, you love his soul....I get a little emotional with "My Head...Some of his compromised records...I pay no mind..He was a fuckin artist....not a businesman....I wannna cry when i hear this fuckin song
In the 3rd yr. of my search for the girl I KNEW was my soulmate, but fate separated us. Am 65 & married once, but have never really loved another as I have Leslie. I LIVE this song every day. Only The Great One, Captain Beef-heart could say it so profoundly bittersweet. In this tune it's the singer AND the song! Thanks for the upload boss
This about says it all for me. A masterpiece. The best love song- ever. Tender beyond belief. The man had a magnet for a heart, compelling and drawing everyone in to just...feel love.
The Tubes, another great S.F. band, released this beautiful ballad on one of their recordings. Don was obviously a complex character capable of tremendously varied compositions. This is among his most tender & romantic.
I with ya-the best lyrical moment of any song I've heard...For me, it's halfway due to the context-he ends the previous verse with the line "my heart won't beat until I wrap my arms around you," then there's the instrumental part build-up to the third verse, and he comes back with same concept about "arms." Genius And it's halfway due to the fact that it is just an amazing line that would be beautifully poetic in any context.
I'll let a train be my feet If it's too far to walk to you If a train don't go there I'll get a jet or a bus Because I'm going to find you You're going to see me shadow soon around you And my head is my only house unless it rains I walk the meadow plains Water deserts are my eyes until I find you I won't sleep until I find you I won't eat until I find you My heart won't beat until I wrap my arms around you My arms are just two things in the way Until I can wrap them around you You can make my sad song happy Make a bad world good I can feel you out there moving You're mine, I know I'll find you And my head is my only house until I've found you I hate to have other people hear me sing this song If this reaches you before I do Follow it to "I love you" That's where I'll find you And my head is my only house until I find you
Thank you from an italian who understands just a lottle english. Van Vliet, hope you met Frank anywhere in the universe an have some fun near the stars.
Nobody could stop time and make us listen like he did. Profound lyrics again and again. His wide range of emotions and lyrical delivery drew us in like a magnet. His assembly of musicians played as directed by his exquisite ear. I feel blessed for having drunk in his music.
straight up...my favorite love song of all time. music Whenever it's my time to leave, I want this song to send my energy off to wherever it goes. Lyrics full of tender love and music that is eternally beautiful.
I'm in the 3rd yr of my searching for the girl I KNEW was my Soulmate when I was just 19-but fate sepetated us. I'm 65 now, married once & several years long relationships. But I've never loved any woman as I did & still do Leslie. I LIVE this song every day and only Don could tell it so profoundly and sing it so beautifully bitter sweet. In this tune it's the singer and the song! Thanks for the upload guy.
I played this at my husband's funeral been looking for the track for a lpng time my soul mate doed xmas eve 91 I've had one relationship since cos I fall for the mind not the looks and though I didn't realise the other man was so like my Paul even though one was black and my husband white they also were physically alike RIP my crazy diamond
_"I listen to different tracks depending on the mood I'm in"_ What a weird approach to music appreciation: I consume musical entertainment products based upon a complex system of Taxonomical Classification, astrological portents & omens, and my girlfriend's tolerance / menstrual cycle, in that order (the last being a minor factor, given the imaginary nature of my girlfriend)
Thank you for making available. This music has helped me a lot when I was young, and sometimes close to edge of the abyss. That was a good 25 years,-but the magic is still working, I'm always very grateful, to both survival helpers the captain and the Big-Nose Frank.
Incredible voice ... though I'm kinda glad he IS underrated - if the Captain's commercial aspirations had been fulfilled (i.e. "Unconditionally Guaranteed") I think it would have cheapened his great legacy.
I found it difficult to listen to the captain in 72 when I was 16 but I now get it. this is great bluesy jazzy music and I will definenatly listen to his other less commercial stuff!

@Revanlation Thank you fellow music lover for uploading this album!! I've got it but wanted to share it with younger music lovers who never heard him or of him. I was blessed to have been in my early 20's when this hit. Him and Zappa ♥♥♥ ♫ ♥
One of the few "normal" songs Don did, and this one is even great and wonderful to listen to. I have enjoyed it for almost 50 years now. Thank you! Safe as milk 😎
@babsinjrzy I'm only 19 myself, my friend turned me onto Safe As Milk years ago and I never looked back. I wish I was so fortunate to grow up in an era where the modern music was half as great as anything spawned by Don or Frank. Thanks for the comment. =]
Got this album when it first came out. Love all the songs on it. This one describes how captivating and all consuming the memory of a brief encounter with a compelling woman can be and how the thirst to see her again trumps everything else.
Cecil Treadwell Me too....reminds me of a wonderful relationship with a wonderful man. He'd quote the lyrics in love letters to me. I treasure the memories.
My idea of heaven is listening to this sitting on a deck chair in Greece a spliff in one hand and a cocktail in the other watching the sun go down over the horizon.Bliss.
Have you heard the Everything But the Girl version on this track? It's a beautiful review of this beautiful song... So intense and sincere as this original version... Search for it.
