Thanks for doing the experiment! Are you injecting Captain Jack's into the stems? If so, has it harmed your plants? Battle is commencing here in the Midwest in my own garden with the same larvae.
You can inject it if you wish but if you can get a needle in there then just skewer the caterpillar. You could use a wire too. Spray Captain Jack's afterward.
