You know what's really ridiculous? Rex's hair. It's buzzed so short, that to bleach it, he'd basically be bleaching his skull, and the blonde hair would last for like 5 days before he would have to buzz it and bleach it again.
I still love how he shot the battle droid in clone armour in the head and seemed relieved when he took the helmet off it was a droid as if he wasn’t sure but still shot it in the head anyway
@@naintham5849 considering their vocabulators could perfectly mimic the sound (though not the phrasing) of Jango Fett, it would unnerve even a Jedi, who would know almost instantly that they were looking at a droid, not a human.
Also look at what Rex has to deal with since the beginning of the war: traitorous clones and Droids disguised as clones. Plus Cut Lawquane, he experienced freedom for a bit. And then with Krell and even with the senator from Mandalore betraying the republic. And then the slavery he saw on Zigiria. He was there for it all. Most clones just served in battle.
@@mrpopeshistoryclass7285 The guy that was gonna blow up Satine's ship. Forgot his name, but he wore the hood and got stabbed by Anakin, all thr good stuff.
@@a-aronkim1689 the mag is more like a pressurized gas that turns into the Lasers. Most blasters have about 500 shots before needing a new mag. That’s also why the colors are different is because of the type of gas that’s in the mag.
Rex is a lot like myself and most Combat Veterans I know. He develops like any soldier who sees war. We come out of Basic and we are all in a certain mindset. As we get older and see combat we still do our duty but experience shapes us and we think outside the box more. Nothing is more important than our brothers. We get orders yet we figure out the best way to carry those orders out we don't blindly follow them into a trap or worse. Experience is an incredible teacher.
I think Rex evolved because as the war went on he was seemingly separated from Cody for a lot of episodes. So he got to loosen up a bit. Just look how cold and by the book he sort of is in episodes where he’s with Cody and then look how he is when he’s not.
There’s a scene in rebels where he’s in stormtrooper armor shooting at two storm troopers. He gets frustrate because he keeps missing takes off the helmet and hits both of the stormtroopers instantly
He was strong but imperial royal guards were extremely powerful and could easily beat Rex in a 1 v 1. However I think Rex would have been side by side with Vader on most missions.
I think Anakin Skywalker had a bit to do with his development in a passive way. Anakin viewed his troops as men, not just clone cannon fodder like some generals. He was also an unorthodox Jedi that allowed and maybe even encouraged Rex's development simply by Anakin's own actions. When a guy looks at walkers and thinks asteroid sneak attack, he encourages crazy ideas. Finally he never corrected or disputed Rex's opinions. Rex was allowed to think, and have opinions contrary to his programming.
The Deserter: Rex goes against Protocol to do what’s right Umbara act: Rex turns against his general to do what’s right Siege on Mandalore arc: Rex turns against his own brothers to do what’s right
Technically yes but could you imagine if Fives never discovered about the chips and Rex stayed as a mindless droid with his chip? All that character development would've been a huge waste.
The significance of the comparison Anakin makes between Dogma and Rex at the beginning of the Umbara arc, with Rex's reply " Maybe back in the day. " seemingly deserves mention here as a direct reference to the growth Rex has made.
But if Kylo did that he would probably have to listen to the voice in the back of his head telling him to stop. And he seems determined to tell that voice to go fuck itself.
She disappoints me most of all because I hardcore defended her in TFA on the premise that she would grow throughout the series and by the end she would be compelling, but then TLJ happened
@@jackielana9993 eh he had the aid of the force and his allies and his abilities are foreshadowed by his father being a great pilot and a general in the clone wars (not to mention a jedi) all of which is established before he does the things. Rey just casually knows how to swim fly and shoot with absolute ease as well as casually use a lightsaber
@@jackielana9993 actually if you did little research you would know Luke would fly in his spare time in a t16 skyhopper which I be it is not a starfighter but it is regardless a flying ship, incredibly fast one at that, it's even said he used to fly free time in narrow spaces at beggars canyon. Future advice don't try starting a argument unless you got all your facts straight.
Bms010 0 Bms010 0 Hi, your condescension makes me not care about what you have to say. Also, you’re proving my point because I said that we don’t know everything about Rey yet and we know a lot more about Luke. “If I did a little research” He still had rat training from the T-16 and that’s it. I’m saying he wasn’t any Imperial Cadet with force powers, a Jedi to be reckoned with. He was a farm boy that somehow defeated the most oppressive force in the galaxy’s biggest weapon with rat targeting as his training. Mary Sue, textbook.
I’m honestly surprised that Captain Fordo isn’t mentioned as part of Rex’s inspirations. Such as the Range Finder and Jag Eyes. Plus Captain Fordo being the most prominent Clone in the Original Clone Wars Mini series. I’m just kinda curious as to why Captain Fordo isn’t even mentioned but oh well maybe I’m just being weird about it.
@@histguy101 No. Fordo's phase 2 helmet is designed similarily (the "mouth" section is different) to a 91st Recon Corp / BARC Speeder Trooper helmet, while Rex' phase 2 helmet is a mix of the standard trooper p2 helmet and the visor of a p1 helmet. Commander Wolffe has a similar (not quite) helmet to Fordo 'though.
kind of seen the difference between Anakin and Captain Rex but never noticed krel, cut , the other clone trooper change Rex perspective personality towards the CW...
Can you do the Gray Paladins from coruscant nights in legends? They're a Jedi faction that used blasters and other weapons one was so good that she was able to send one of her own bolts straight up an enemy's blaster barrel. They also believed in using the force as little as possible so they focused on other skills like martial arts and military tactics like guerrilla warfare, urban tactics, espionage, and infiltration.
a lot of his issues came from the fact that unlike other Masters, Anakin gave Rex control over his Padawan. no other Clone Commander/Captain ever had that much control over the Jedi Commanders. he was influenced by his relationship with her since he took over a lot of her training unless it was specific to the force. toward the end of the Clone Wars, we see Ahsoka being sent to other Masters or back to the temple for Jedi training because it was obvious to everyone that Anakin wasn't exactly performing all his dutues as Master
You try finding a sniper on the battlefield it's not easy. Once someone goes down and Doc gets to them it's Doc's show and you keep Doc and your brother safe.
I've been asking major star wars channels to explore how the clone wars would have been different if they never switched alpha for rex for YEARS. I thought I was the only one who knew about that tidbit in rex's character creation
I would’ve loved to see a clone character as ruthless as Alpha-17 in the Clone Wars, but I understand why they didn’t do that, with it being meant as a kids show and everything.
Alex Laws I mean technically, he didn’t. He was just following his orders. I mean sure, he cuda stunned fives instead of killing, but he did warn him lots and fives was going insane. Technically fox didn’t do anything wrong, we just hate him for what he did. Thorn is infinitely better
13:00 Its actually funny because Rex didn't really side with Asokah during Order 66. He did once his chip was removed but they did really well with Rex's character.
That’s true. Captain Rex is one of the Clone commander special batch. He was born and raised to be a commander. Other notable Commanders from that batch would be Cody, Bacara,Trauma, and Fox and many more.
This was a great essay! I personally think the Slaves of the Republic arc was a big part of his development as well, but overall this was awesome! Great vid 😊
I thought Alpha was Rex for a while, but I'm glad they're different. I love Rex. He's such a cool character. He's such a good person despite the circumstances life put him in. His bond with Ahsoka is 🤌🏻 (yes I ship them, bite me). Shipping aside, his and Ahsoka's relationship (romantic or platonic) is one of the purest I've ever come across in fiction.
Everyone loves to underestimate the inhibitor chip.. and I'm glad Season 7 finally showed everyone how creepy and brutal that chip and its consequences was.. its a very mad outlook on whats possible in the future and partially already today with conditioning.. It's the worst thing that can be done to an individual.. making them do things they never would.. make them believe to be someone they are not.. it violates the concept of soul and spirit and is all too real with a lot of neurological diseases that make a person a malfunctioning biological device rather than a perceived individual.. Its a reminder to stay away from ethical and moral dilemmas. If there is a train to hit 3 kids or 5 kids the right choice for your conscience is to do nothing. Whoever put them or the train there is responsible.. not you
One of the best things about Rebels TV show is what it did with Rex. As he said in the clone wars "we arent droids" when confronting dogma. Edit: he confronted dogma the clone and dogma the mindset. But anyways Rex already decided that clones have free will and can make their own real decisions but unfortunately order 66 dashed that idea since the clones literally were droids in that scenario and followed pre made programming. So that alone was just the final nail in the coffin for rex. Why the hell would he wanna be part of the empire who literally takes away individualism from non clones and who follow totalitarian orders without hesitation? It's the perfect way to make him wanna fight for the rebellion after the ghost squad gives him hope about fighting for something that he personally believes in
I know it's been a while, but I think the reason is that he incorporated bits of the phase 2 armor with the bits of phase 1 stuff he still liked, so he sort of made a hybrid armor, at least, that's what I've read.
Ironically, Rex is the only clone in Star Wars to have willingly issued Order 66, and Krell was technically the 501st's first Jedi kill, and the only one they voluntarily executed. No wonder Palpatine felt they were special.
It's funny. I suppose because I grew up with it (I'm only 17) to me Clone Wars and Rex feel more star wars to me than say, Lando does. Though Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia,Vader, Yoda, all feel just as much SW as the clone wars.
It's CT-7567, not CC-7567, he wasn't trained specifically for Commanding like Commander Cody, he had ARC-like training and was initially a normal CT Clone, if I remember correctly
An example of what happens when you give a clone an opportunity to grow, they become the best warriors in the galaxy with a heart to match. Sad they had to spend most of their time cooped up by the Jedi.
The christophsis arc was actually his first canonical showing because in downfall of a droid ashoka was present and in christophsis she was just arriving.
