Before Ed Sullivan show on doing live concert in 50th anniversary celebration party years happy birthday to my friend and I have been there since flash back past life story ture life movie all day before she was new to be there
I saw the Captain and Tennille when they were part of the Beach Boys band in the early 1970s (1972 or 1973) at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green Ky.
How often does the headliner step back and allow the all-too-often nameless, faceless backup musicians shine? Well done, band! This is a keeper. Know class when you see it.
Yes, her and Capt. Darryl Dragon were one Helluva a team. He was a classically trained keyboardist. She just naturally had that talented voice of hers!! Darryl Dragon passed away a few yrs. back. I still think, even after their marriage ended, she still had deep feelings for him. This was an outstanding performance. Great medly..well-rehearsed.
Awesome!!!!! I love love love Toni and Daryl, its such a shame that things did not work out personally but we will always have the music which is just the best! Great job Rich and everyone on the medley, thank you so much for posting!!
I'm watching videos today .... after hearing of Daryl's passing. I started crying when I heard as they were such a part of my life, beginning in my teens! I know it sounds selfish, but I wish Toni had just stayed with Daryl after 39 yrs... and maybe had an open marriage... that was known to just them. Kind of shattered fairy tales a bit when she divorced him. RIP Daryl and thanks for this melody and all the great music
@@marysnyder1127 Did you read her book Toni Tennille: A Memoir?? It wasn't that they wanted an open marriage or things of that nature...she needed to leave to try and get some happiness for herself..She stayed way longer than she wanted to mainly because she loved him so much and a little bit for the fans as well. Its a great book.
I feel the same way you do. Wished they both stayed together till the end of his life. However, it still must have been hard. RIP Darryl - My best to Toni.
@@marysnyder1127 - I didn't see your comment till I posted mine but I feel the same way too. After 39 years together why leave now? I cried thinking about him because I married someone like him except my wasn't Ideal. Abuse in any form is wrong.
@@marysnyder1127 I believe the divorce was for business reasons. Toni herself said Daryl had a brilliant business mind. Daryl's sicknesses would drain everything the created together. I have no proof but believe it was a last love gesture by Daryl to Toni. That's my story and sticking to it. :)
God Toni you are a gorgeous woman with a gorgeous smile and a gorgeous voice. Back in the day I wish I could have traded places with Daryl I would have given you more love than there is in the whole wide world, God I wish we met 40 or so years ago, Love You Toni and the Beach Boys are my all time fav group. I'll be 71 July 2019..RockinRonny from Canada.
I think its a wonderful sentiment....she loved Daryl more than anything in the world and I believe with all my heart that he loved her too just was not emotionally able to show it
If you take all the Beach Boys songs that Capt. & Tennille have covered over the years (mainly Bruce Johnston songs), as well as tribute songs Toni has written (tribute as in "in the style of"), including the tune "Little Saint Nick", which was performed on the C&T 1976 Christmas Show episode and later put on their 2007 The Secret Of Christmas album, you'll have enough songs to make a Beach Boys tribute album- a total of 10 songs. I've always been a big fan of Captain & Tennille, as well as The Carpenters, and have always been amazed that they made it as a duo when in fact she is the only one you hear on the albums. Usually duos build their careers on duets, but she's always had a strong stage presence and a great voice, so they made it despite that. I just wish when companies keep re-issuing their albums, that they include the Spanish language versions as well- the 1975 debut album "Love Will Keep Us Together" was issued in Spanish, as well as 1980's "Make Your Move" album. There were occasional 45's released in Spanish between those 2 albums as well. Maybe someday.....
Glenn Campbell also performed with Beach Boys. Carnie and Wendy Wilson in group Wilson Phillips are daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chyna Phillips daughter of Michelle Phillips of Mamas and Papas. Also Brian, Carnie, and Wendy Wilson released album called The Wilsons with twelve songs. Wendy and Carnie Wilson also released album called Hey Santa with 10 Christmas songs.
I wouldn't criticize otherwise but these are the worst renditions of The Beach Boys music I have ever heard and I can't figure out how they managed it.
