Capture the Carbon: Conserving forests to sustain local communities 

A project to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) can help mitigate the climate crisis, while strengthening local livelihoods. In Colombia, Laddie’s community is one of 19 Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities USAID supports with the development of REDD+ projects, which generate carbon credits sold in the carbon market. These projects have reduced 6.2 million tons of carbon emissions, the equivalent of taking a million cars off the road for a year.
