One of the most iconic images to come out of the Second World War was the photograph taken of Major General Erwin Rommel standing with Major General Victor Fortune after the surrender of the 51st (Highland) Division in the town of St Valery-en-Caux.
The day of the surrender was well documented, particularly by Rommel himself, who was a keen amateur photographer.
In this first in an occasional series, we look at some of the images from that day, take a deeper look at them , and see what we can learn.
