Glad to hear Jonathan in an interview, the railway I volunteer at owns the Andrew Barlay No.945 seen at YD Papers. So it's always nice to watch 'The day stan left' again. I look forward to further projects from both of you.

That's excellent! What condition is it in at the moment? I have seen that Beamish have been operating one of the Pecketts recently.

@@RailwayManiaNet No.945 is currently in an ongoing overhaul. A lot has happened at the railway, which meant Agecroft No.3 was restored fully ahead of her. But an opportunity has arissen to work on both our Barclay's

Many years ago I spent a most enjoyable day on the the bridge at Laramie with a guy from Gandy Dancer Productions. Until watching this I did not realise there was a connection. Many thanks.

@@RailwayManiaNet It is, but sadly it was also a long time ago and no one knew about COVID then.

Something lesser known about old mineshafts, (so I’m told) since nationalisation the standard has always been to fill the shafts with some type of grout, so within the colliery grounds the area around the shaft is the least likely place to suffer subsidence. I’m told 50 yards away from a shaft is the worst place to be. Even some of the shafts of older pits were infilled by NCB to prevent issues.

You mention YD paper mill, on my local heritage railway has preserved the Barclay named “Annie” as seen in the footage wich is undergoing restoration as well as a peckett based at beamish. I’m reasonably sure there’s a YD wagon somewhere as well.

Another excellent guest - well worth the wait. These podcasts are compensation for those of us who rarely get the chance to talk trains - and you ask all the right questions.

When a Railway Mania podcast drops into my feed it genuinely brings a smile to my face. Thank you, they are so interesting and I learn a huge amount from each (although I still can’t understand some of the finer points of valve gear types, this will come with time, I’m sure). I liked the chat about sound recording. The noise of a steam loco is of course so important. My daughter is two and I have introduced her to the Johnny Morris Thomas recordings (you can get them on Spotify). The way he uses his voice so cleverly to convey Rev Audrey’s original idea that steam locos might ‘talk’ to each other through their sounds reminded me of your conversation here. Steam fires the imagination like so little else, which is why this footage is so wonderful, thank you for sharing it with a wider audience.

I only discovered your podcast on Google Podcasts about a year ago and have wanted to say how impressive your interviews are. Well researched and presented with varied fascinating guests, although infrequent, they're well worth the wait. I'm always delighted to see a new one pop up. Cheers and thanks from Aus.

Might I confirm as an ex Alfa Romeo owner, they're pretty bad at the job in hand. But make a lovely sound being bad at it.
