This is amazing..I pretty love your works.. I'm inspired by your works and thought of making a car cake... Can you pls tell me some techniques for carving? And how to preserve fondant from sweating??
Hi Diya, I suggest printing out a template & place it against the cake when you're carving to help get the proportions correct. Also find multiple pictures of the car at different angles for reference. And carve little bits of cake at a time since it's difficult to add more if you've removed too much. To prevent a fondant cake from sweating I typically store it inside a cardboard box in the fridge until it's ready to be served. Or possibly dusting the exterior with a thin layer of corn starch to help absorb any moisture. lmk if you have additional questions, I'm happy to help !
Hi Lorraine, I glued strips of cardboard together to the desired height and placed the cake on top. The cardboard should be a bit smaller than the car but be thick enough to support the cake. I'll definitely show this in future car cakes so you can see. Hope this helps !
For the thin gelatin, combine 1 packet of Knox powder gelatin to 3 Tbs of water. Warm in sauce pan to melt, skim bubbles or foam from surface & pour liquid onto a Silpat or acetate sheet. Leave overnight & peel off when dry. Hope this helps !
