A lot of fans and subscribers of this channel are conflicted between studying engineering vs. studying design. If this sounds like you, a new blog post has been posted that you might in interested in that covers the pros and cons of each - howtodrawcars.net/automotive-designer-or-mechanical-engineer/
hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to draw cars step by step tutorials try Skyarza Car Sketching Star (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my brother in law got great results with it.
Thank you sooo much for these videos! Im 16 years old and am quite experienced with 3D rendering of vehicles on Blender, howver ive found i need to work on my actual pencil drawings of cars. Im hoping i can make it in this industry, its my dream and im gonna try as God damn hard as i can !
You're very welcome. Every time I think I'm going to stop I get a comment like yours that makes me see the value in continuing. Regarding digital vs actual pencil drawing, it will be very hard to become great and master the techniques just by using software. The digital space has it's place but should never come at the expense of time spent drawing by hand with real materials. Especially if you are young and still working on techniques like line quality and line weight. Computers are not going anywhere. They'll be there when you're ready and can make the most out of them. You're making the right choice by spending your time on actually drawings. If you really want to accelerate your abilities, I would take a look at this - www.udemy.com/introduction-to-automotive-design/learn/v4/overview It takes the best of what I've done on this channel and expands it. it's much more structured than what's on youtube as well. It's designed for someone just like you, with your level of "gas in the veins". There's a preview video there you can check out. Good luck and keep pushing.
How To Draw Cars Thanks again! Ill be purchasing this asap! Please keep doing what your doing, you seem excellent at it (and the fact i learnt more about speed forms from you than i did in 3 years with my teacher 😂)
Jonny- If you like this kind of format, you should check out the Udemy courses. It's 5 lectures of this kind of instructions to take your work to the next level. www.udemy.com/course/introduction-to-automotive-design/?referralCode=17C40D3D6D40C2E8CBCB
Thank you so much, I was struggling drawing cars and especially the perspective and this helped me a lot. Now my cars don't look as distorted or "cartoonish".
This video took my car drawing from a 3.5 to a 7 tysm sir by God's grace I already had the line quality but these steps helped me improve a lot idk how to thank may God bless u n ur family
As someone who was just looking for a way to sketch cars for fun, I actually learned a LOT from this single video. I kept's having those "OHHH! That makes a lot of sense!" moments, so thank you so much!
@@howtodrawcars. The "Scaffolding / Where the other wheels sit in space". That's such a good help now that I've thought about it! And then adding the center-hub of the wheels according to the scaffolding too. :)
@@SlurryNoises Thanks for letting me know. The next videos for the channel will also be perspective ones as well. Maybe a convertible or a sport sedan. This is the hardest thing to get right so lots more videos like this should be helpful. Let me know your thoughts.
It's a hard field to get into and my path to success in it was self made. I know how incredibly hard it is to achieve the dream of becoming a professional car designer. This is my way of giving back. Thanks for your support.
Ive been doing nothing but figures and portraits and then was humbled quickly by some very bad car drawings... Glad i found this channel. Thanks for this video
If you are doing good figures and portraits, drawing cars should be easier. I have one of my current students doing figure drawings and he's begging to back to easy stuff, like drawing cars. I agree it can be challenge for any first timer. There is a lot of technique involved. Moreover, making up a new design is much different than representing a figure from a photo or life. Stay with it. In the hierarchy of the hardest things to draw, you're already at the top of the list. Cars should come to you in time.
im 14 and trying to build my own car. i know people will judge because im doing it on my own but i learned so much more then most adults know about cars. thanks to you i now have the skill to make my own blue prints the the body of the car!
Thanks for the kind words, Kevin. We are having insane success with out Tailored Course Program. 3 of the winners of this years Dunning Foundation Auto Design Competition were our students. Another student just turned down a full scholarship to one of the top automotive design schools in the world (Center for Creative Studies) so he could attend another one of the top automotive design schools in the world (Art Center). These are the type of opportunities we are creating for our students. I invite you and any other person interested in achieving your automotive or product design dreams to check out the program here - howtodrawcars.net/autmotive-design-course/
big thank you for cool tutorials about automotive car design drawing like it very well this skills i think the best is when sketch stay to wall verticaly and have A3 or A1 paper
Hello sir i have been drawing cars since kg class I would like to show my cars design to you. But I only practice in side view. 10 years I have practice in side view and now u r helping me in perspective view drawing. Thank you so much sir... 👍🏻
The view is not as important as the quality of your line work. It doesn't matter if the car is drawn in perspective if it's poorly drawn. You can send your sketches to michael@howtodrawcars.net. Please let me know your age and what your goals are. Thanks.
It helps m'y Dreams IS been thé most famous designer ans i have now 14 years i learn from now for thé développement of m'y skills plus continue you are good
i just wanted the basics of drawing a car since i struggle drawing even a wheel... but this man helped me a lot.. and i will always remember the 10000 hours and 50000 sketches thing...... thank u very very much... (+1 sub)...!!!
I've done so many car perspective drawings, it looks real but the structures of the body looks a bit weird and tyres looks even weird. I know it tooks a time but none of it works. once i saw this video tutorial of yours, im sure kind draw even better than before, nice one bruv
Glad to hear it. It does take time because what you are trying to do is really really hard to get good at. Putting in the hours is the only way to improve. Keep at it.
Special thanks for including these many steps and not leaving anything out ,I am a beginner amd had to go through a lot of videos to find something like this. Honestly speaking tje guys who don't do these steps don't provide this much information))
I'm glad you noticed. I too saw what others have done and saw the huge hole in the process they were leaving out. I try to focus on the process as if I was the viewer trying to do this very hard thing for the first time. What do I need to learn about this to do it right, not just once, but from now on? Glad you're seeing it. Please help spread the good word about the channel to anyone you feel would benefit. Thanks.

My mom wanted me to paint a picture of my papa's old blue truck, so she won't miss home so much. I could not figure out how to draw it the frustration was unbearable. thank you so much for making this video you just solved every mistake iv made I know it's a car not a truck but the advice still works. Hoping to have the painting finished in time for her birthday. Thanks again you guys are the best.

Brilliant, thank you, I've been watching Sangwan Seok on here and you were so right about the fact that people like San have put in the hours so therefore don't need the scaffold on the page. Can't believe I've missed your videos, I needed this, thanks again!!

Great intuitive video, I draw cars myself self but I've not taken it this far before though I do use persecute lines loosely. I've been drawing cars since I was about 7. I just want to get my ideas to look more polished great video btw
I really injoyed your video I needed a refresh I meet a guy who went to school for product and automotive design that was way back in 1996 I was in high school he showed me the same thing I totally changed my drawing habits to drawing with my arm exc.i picked it up like a duck is to water I got really good then over the years I kinda forgot how to get the prospective right I've got a few designs of my own always wanted to be part of a design team has been a dream of mine I'm 43 now but maybe we can chat sometime thanks for the video
Michael - Thanks for sharing your story. I wish I had someone in my high school who could have shown me the proper techniques. And I went to an ALL ART high school! I can be reached at michael@howtodrawcars.net if you want to chat.
Yes the concept is the same. Most people have trouble with incorporating the ellipses and making them look correct. That's, as you mention, is the difference.
Hey michael.Firstly, I want you to know that your effort keeps us on the right way of getting better.Second, I would be grateful if you upload more improve my sketch videos and/or sketches of your own by doing what you are trying to teach.Thank you for your effort again.
Glad they are helping you. I try to integrate the video demos into what is happening with our tutoring. Many of the challenges our students are facing with their work are the same as many of the subs on this channel. By taking the essence of the tutoring session and posting it here, it can help everyone who watches get better if they are struggling. I think there is room to do more of my own sketches but the planning involved is greater. Right now, using the student sketches as the basis to teach fundamentals allows the videos to get made and posted more quickly.
How to draw in perspective -get a oculus and open gravity sketch The end Srs, all designers, try it out, completely changed my workflow. Especially useful when designing around a package. Also great for consumer products. Just as fast as paper, if not faster, and more versatile. It's a great tool for people who like to design but suck at sketching because of not having put thousands of hours of practice into it.
Yes, you would not want to put thousands of hours into a skill that is at the foundation of your chosen profession. Doing that has worked out so well for so many others. Here's an idea: Accept that achieving something extraordinary in life requires hard work. Commit to doing the hard work that is required then put your head down and get to work. I've never seen anyone in get hired in transportation or product design that could not draw. Period. I would suggest you take the time you are spending looking for an easy way out and just spend it improving your skills.
@@howtodrawcars. oh give me a break. I've put thousands of hours into sketching but the moment I put on a headset I regretted the effort I put into building the muscle memory. It's no shortcut, it's just better, plain and simple. For packaging any kind of product vr is just unbeatable in terms of speed and precision. You can immediately see your design from all angles, instantaneously check whether the 95 percentile can actually see out the window, whether the mechanical components will fit in whatever body you drew, what the boot space will be... This is all within the first 10 minutes of starting your design. No customer ever cared if a product was born as an oil painting or as a sculpture made of toothpicks. And yeah, if your 80 year old studio lead hasn't even ever heard of vr and doesn't hire based off that that's just corporate inertia and gatekeeping by the likes of you. Decent affordable walkaround vr has only been around for a few years ffs, but it's gonna be very relevant for product designers.
Free - You never said in your original post that you had put the hours in already. My reply would have been different. I also appreciated your spirited reply. Good on' ya for that. About 40% of my subscribers live in a place where getting basic art supplies is impossible. Reading a comment where someone is saying you don't need to learn to draw because this really fancy piece of technology will do it for you could be extremely discouraging for someone who cannot find the right pencils to draw with in the first place. I am sure you can understand that. Car designers run on passion and a dream. My reply was about protecting that dream for so many who's only option is to draw. I agree, the more tools the better. And the better tools, the better. You want to use the tools that will yield the best design. That's not always the latest technology but sometimes it is.
Thank you mark I Luv u r drawing and the host who represents the theory of a drawing perspective of a car is such a futuristic Renault car. Now I subscribed to your channel.
