Car Drives Off Fishing Pier!! Crashes into the Ocean! 

The amount of people making jokes and finding this funny is so screwed up, society now is so fu$ked

Just horrific. This is absolutely heartbreaking. I lost someone to a suicide a few years ago and I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy. I’m sorry that this person was going through something that he/she felt the need to do this. My condolences to this persons loved ones.

The fact that that person kept hitting the breaks makes me wonder if they were hesitating. I don't know, maybe they were thinking "Wow, I'm really about to do this?" It reminds me of the woman who drove her car off the cliff into the Pacific Ocean in Half Moon Bay back in 2019. Someone caught that on their dashcam. She did not hit her brakes at all. Her remains were recovered 8 months later. It's very sad this person is no longer here. Very tragic RIP.

So it appears like the overall opinion on social media is that this was likely an intentional act, but why all the braking..? And did it look like the car was slowing to anybody else? Didn't seem like it to me. Idk. I'm glad this wasn't up close vid. It's awful enough from a distance. 😢 Sad.

Local for myself. My coworker told me within a few hours. We still have no info really. There's a local missing persons case that MAY be connected. I rarely go down that far. Most of the locals hang out around the main bar streets between 18 and 22nd

Finally the car was pulled from the water! Feel terrible for the family. This was suicide. And this was a friend of mine of over 30 years. We all just need to be more caring to people and let them know they are not alone. Condolences to all his family and friends. You will be missed my friend!

The peir was covered in ice even if they wanted to stop they couldn't because of the ice. The one cop said he almost fell because of ice walking out there not to mention its on its roof meaning it flipped over once it hit the water and had no chance of anything because it probably began filling with freezing cold water as soon as it hit the water and if the windows were down just a little bit would have caused it to fill fast. It could have been someone having a medical emergency and their feet were on both the gas and break and ever bump of the peir made their feet hit the break they may not have even been awake at the time of the crash but we really won't know until they pull it up and figure out what actually happened. Its very sad either way. But jumping to assumptions isnt the way to go in this case because of the family and friends.

I know most people think it's a suicide, but old people and/or drunk people could become disoriented and drive through things and not even realize what's happening until it's too late as well. Prays for all involved.

Very sad news about this tragic incident at the ocean front in Virginia Beach and mental Illness Is very real and I lost my brother to suicide and there’s help out here for people who are struggling with mental illness and my prayers and condolences are with the families that are affected by this tragedy Saturday morning 😢

This is almost certainly intentional, the driver had to breach a huge iron gate at the entrance and they had 650 feet of pier to figure out something wasn't quite right.

Well it's possible somebody was forced to drive the vehicle and there could have been a passenger forcing their foot on the gas pedal....and the driver was trying to brake.....time will tell....it's really sad....😢.

Guys I live at the oceanfront and I will tell you you have to literally turn into the parking lot then make a sharp turn in the pathway and drive on the boardwalk and there’s two metal iron gates at the pier entrance they crashed right thru both of them this was intentional and it’s clear to me someone was fed up I feel for them cause I’m almost to that point myself but it’s sad to see so if this was some accident then you wouldn’t drive into the parking lot like that the logics and evidence of this horrific event was premeditated they had to have this planned

i cant tell if this was a suicide or just someone on their phone, Its really sad how hard it is to tell between the two these days.

Coincidentally it turns out the name of the driver is "Dummy" 😂.

I can only hope it isn't someone I know. I was homeless out in Virginia Beach and there was a lot of friends I made that were going through a lot, quite a few living in their cars... I hope they can get more information soon.

I think the reason for the "hesitation" and braking was due to trying to accelerate on a series of boardwalk planks; likely bowing under the weight and bouncing enough to start rapping the transmission off the wood

Was it the ederly? They were breaking, but kept going, slowly, rolling off the bridge, like they paniced & forgot it was still in drive. I aay it was an old person about 80, prob a woman, hopefully alone, nobody in the back. Yikes. I'm also suprised that dock supported the weight of the car. That dock is 75 yrs old. I bet the integrity of that peir was weakened after that, mufgt want to check the support beams underneth, maybe add some concrete footings. Idk, I'm no expert.

I think somebody else was in that car and it was an argument and the driver was intending to run off the pier and somebody kept trying to stop now why not jump out I'll never know but something just isn't right

This was definitely intentional. Why are the media calling this a suicide? Would someone wanting to commit suicide slow way down and basically idle over the edge or speed up and fly off the pier? Also, since there was video evidence, why did it take a whole week to investigate the wreckage? Something smells very fishy here... Looks as if someone was trying to get rid of this vehicle for some reason, maybe to get rid of a body or some type of evidence, carefully drove this vehicle down the middle of the pier and slowed down enough to exit the driver's side and let the car coast over the edge of the pier. Just my take.

From this distance it’s possible among car experts to figure out what car this was. Another thing: crazy incident like this here in VA Beach doesn’t shock me. Lived here over 30 years and we’re growing and building too much. Also, too many booze stores, catering to tourists. STOP. This is what will sadly happen if this disgusting city doesn’t go back and check itself. Prayers to the poor person or persons in the car.

No way was this person alive in 40° Waters in the amount of time it would have taken to set up any type of rescue. Get it together Society for fuck's sake

It’s not impossible that this was an individual with dementia. There’s multiple bridges and tunnels in this area that someone with cognitive decline might mistake - which may account for the confusing braking.
