You have to drain the coolant in order for the water pump not to leak. Also, do the electronic tests beforehand; they help discover parts that need replacing.
11:50 To drain the pump you have to drain the green fluid, the coolant. If the car doesn't have it in a separate container you drain it from the radiator. The power steering is the red fluid, and brake is the yellow. PS: coolant is a general term for allot of different liquids or gasses. But most ICE (internal combustion engine) use water as coolant.
Trevor you can see what percent damage all the parts are supposed to be in the menu where you see your jobs. That’s why it was wanting you to replace the bushings at 74% because the job wanted 77%
As a mechanic if you were gonna go to the effort of pulling the camshafts out, you would replace all the timing belts, tensioners, water pump and idler pulleys while everything's apart (if replacing was required soon). Just for preventative maintenance and saving on labour costs, time and effort if you were to pull everything apart in the near future anyway. Also generally when you replace one thing on side of the car (e.g. discs or bushings) its good practise to replace the other the identical part on the other side. i.e. always replace in pairs!
I've played this and 2018 quite a bit, and just to let you know, there are more parts on a car from the barn then the junkyard but you can 100% flip a car from the junkyard once you have a bit of money. Flipping cars is an amazing way of making money and I've made like 100k profit from one car flipping it from the junkyard.
When you are putting the parts back together you have to make sure you put the new parts where they belong. For example, if there are 6 ignition coils but only 3 are bad. You have to put the new ones where they are highlighted. I noticed when you put the engine back together you just threw the new ones on where ever you were. Just a bit of advice one mechanic to another.
Better off replacing them all. It's always that reason. Bc rubber bushings arnt like that. U put one that was 70 percent at a different location and the blue spot changes. Bushings, plugs, and other small stuff typ require replace them all that arnt green
@@chrisb.9083 You can just run the car through the test path as well to diagnose all running parts. That way you can see all the bushings you need to change.
This game helped me changed the throttles and belt in my dads Nismo, it’s surprisingly easier when you’ve played 30 hours on this game and know where all the parts are cuz I’m rebuilding a nismo from junkyard
@@mxse1551 Not really to be fair. Itll give you the basic gist and very basic instructions on learning to fix cars but theres ALLLOOOOT more stuff in real life. Treat it as a very very basic guide on how to do things
Coolant is anti-freeze mixed with water . That gets pumped into water ports in the block and head to cool the engine. That's why they call it a water pump. You can also use just plain water as coolant , but it boils much quicker than anti-freeze.
@@DMA1956 I think he means as a temporary fix I’ve had to do that when I took a long road trip in my pt cruiser when it was really hot outside it worked until I reached my destination and then I was able to replace it
Rubber bushings are practically what connect the suspension parts to the frame. It's made to be able to move around slightly and return back to a neutral position I'm saying this because In Car Mechanic Simulator 2018, on the Lotus Elise S1 you can clearly see that, as the suspension arms connect directly onto the car frame and not on a suspension cross member
Trevor, just so you know if you take a part off because with is bad, you need to put the new part in the exact spot of the bed one you took off. For example, say your front driver side brake pad was bad. If you take the passenger side apart to let’s say, took look at the rotor, you when putting it together, you don’t put the new brake pad on the passenger side to fix the bad brake pad on the driver side. So when you keep having to replace parts that are only at like 80% it’s not because they are bad, the game just wants a brand new one there. To fix that you can buy a new part or just pay attention to where you take parts off and put new one on. Other then that great series. Being an auto mechanic in the real world it is fun to watch someone who doesn’t know what he is doing.
I struggled with this as well trev and I've been playing this game for a few years now. Glad you're confident in what you're doing and welcome to the motoring life
@@jasonhmedia2504 Yeah that's true there are a few new cars. I've been playing just wish they added a little more than they did. I do like how everything is separate buildings now.
14:48. It Is called a water pump because in places that don't get cold, like Texas, Cali, etc. They typically use water because coolant is rated to a certain degree to not freeze. It does pump water if you put water in the radiator, but typically people use coolant because it usually cools the engine better than water.
Wrong water absorbs and releases heat way better than coolant but your right about coolant not freezing the freezing pint of coolant is higher than water but even when using coolant it’s still 50/50 with water
@@daltonbrumfield3818 Yea I should've pointed that part out. I know a little bit about that stuff. but I do appreciate the feedback and criticism because now I know the right thing to say.
@@jasonswift7098 when you get to the screen before you go into the game go to settings then it will come up with audio settings. Up the top of the screen you can move across mine is R1 if ur on pc or xbox it will tell you up the top what button press. Then press it till u get to game settings go down to enable travel fee's and turn it to NO then it's done and it will be free now to go to the junk yard. Cheers let me no how you go
I picked up a busted Tesla Roadster in the junkyard first time out and just about shat my pants. I’ve treated the rust and replaced interior and body paneling and put all fresh parts in from frame to power electronics and all I need now is to put the 9 battery modules in, roughly 11-20k depending on basic or upgraded modules but current profit projected at 45k 👀
Just a tip, if you are doing a complete rebuild and buy or repair every part to new on a scrapped car, it's best to buy from the junkyard instead. (you make more profit)
it's called a water pump because the cooling of the engine was and is part water, until they invented propylene glycol which is anti-freeze the coolant was only water. The coolant is drained from the radiator.
if you live somwhere where its hot all year round you can use water for your car. people use coolant so your block doesnt freeze usually in colder climates
It’s a water pump because you mix coolant and water you could put just water if you live somewhere where it’s alway hot but you still run the risk of rust from just water coolant prevents rust and won’t freeze
I bought a renault v6 look a like and made profit just buying it at auction fully restored made like 50-60k i think. The scalope its called or something. I always restore to 100%.
When I have a big over haul on brakes and suspension...I do one wheel area at a time..that way you don't get a lot of parts in your inventory..and you don't forget stuff..helped me out a lot..
Trevor couple of tips for you my man 1. in the PIE menu or the right mouse button menu there is an examination option you can use it to check different parts of vehicle if you don't have all the facilities yet. Plus it gives EXP points. 2. concentrate on building all of the extensions to your garage that way you don't need the test track you can do it all in the garage. 3. for rebuiding cars from the junkyard you really need all the repairing tools you can buy plus it is expensive. I bought from the junkyard the Tempest Magnum (it is game version of 1969 dodge charger daytona) for 15k credits and it cost me 25k to completely repair it with all the tools that i had. So i would say junkyard is worth going at around lvl 15 when you have most of the skilpoints in the repair skill tree. 4. The cars in the barn (the good ones) will cost far more then the cars from the junkyard so go there only if you have like a 50k credits at the least
Also, if you run all tests including test track, you catch almost all of the undiscovered parts right off the bat. And the engine stand / crane are super nice
To make fast cash in this game take jobs that have Gear problems then replace the faulty parts with expensive custom performance ones. So with your discount and the extra bonus based on overall cost, you'll be making 5 to 10k profit on each one of these jobs and they are quickly done, no need to take out a million parts like Engine jobs. Another good money fast jobs are the Exhaust jobs as you already know, but buy them performance exhausts instead of normal ones for the extra bonus.
I wouldnt go to a barn until you have at least $40000-50 grand. You might see a car you really want and if you dont have enough $, you cant go back to the same barn once you leave it. Believe it or not, the junkyard is a good place from what I see to make $. I bought a Ribbsan Starline there for $12 grand, put another $21 grand into it to totally rebuild it and it sold for $84,000. Took me about 3 hours but good profit.
As mechanic there a lot of stuff do you learn when you do stuff of water pump is called a water pump cause it moved the antifreeze through the block through the radiator and stuff to keep the engine cool a bushing is just there to absorb the roads bumps and stuff and help to not wear out the parts and helps to reduce noise and stuff there's a lot of stuff you will learn with time
It's called a water pump because it pumps water. I think when the engine is running its gets so hot it filters the water from the coolant & pumps water. The game has you empty the reservoir as default due to most cars coolant systems varying from bein replenished frequently to seldomly never at all. However you would empty the pump & coolant reservoir during a regular job. Im surprised there's not a mini game involved during the removal of the belts & clutches lol those aren't quick jobs at all lol.
😂 I love trev too, but sometimes he can be pretty non-sensible sometimes, the past 6-7 years he’s had his GT-R all he’s ever done is talk, hasn’t touched it once lol, Same with the Jeep, no hate to Trev tho obviously
The reason it’s called a water pump is because coolant has water. Coolant is basically made up of water and a additive that keeps the water from freezing in the winter. Fun fact that’s why most drag cars use distilled water because they only use the cars in the summer and because clean up of water is a lot easier on a track than cleaning up coolant since the water will just evaporate!👍
You should get charged a fee if you remove the oil filter prematurely without the oil disposal pan in place; there’s still lots of oil in it that leaks when you unscrew it.
To drain the coolant, you have to lift the vehicle and under the radiator there is a drain plug/ valve you remove it and the coolant drains from the rad
Hey trev it's a water pump as a coolant is a mixture of water and Coolant which is why when you need to top up you can top up. With water and I think back in the day they only used water through them as apose to the air cooled engines
Watching this in 2024, yea, coolant pump makes more sense but i think some cars have that on top of a "water pump". Btw coolant is 50% water usually thats the baseline, you can run either more or less, and on race tracks you have to run either pure distilled water or something thats not slippery like coolant :).
If you’re having trouble identifying parts. When I was playing the demo. There’s an option on your wheel to do an inspection and it lets you inspect all parts
Love this series Trev.....lots of love and support from Abu Dhabi (Sounds familiar trev?... should be, cuz the last race in f1 happens right here baby!!) keep up the amazing work buddy.
Hey Trev pro tip: most orders want you to replace parts that are below a certain percentage so for example the Camaro was anything below 77% which is why you needed to replace that ignition coil at the end because it was below 77% ! Hope this helps some, especially with the “part not discovered” catastrophe orders lol
drain the coolant from the radiator or the coolant reservoir...and you don't clean coolant with a "roll of bounty" you need floor dry to absorb it off the floor and it needs to be recycled. not in the regular garbage because its not environmentally friendly.
@28:36 When your inventory is SORTED by ARRIVAL all the parts at the top of the list are what you've just taken off, a quick look before starting your next job will let you see where the previous job ended, then all parts from then on are your new job ;)
There’s cars to buy at the junkyard. 4000 the cheapest. It’s the best and fastest way to make money. Bring em home clean em and weld em and boom profit
Pay attention to the highlighted parts that need to be changed seeing your using that function to avoid do overs and buying extra parts not needed and just replace the parts highlighted. Granted on some of the bushings it can be difficult on some parts like the control arms but for the most part on the easy setting your using it guides you well for what needs what.
Lol you really haven't played a car mechanic sim until you have to deal with valves and lifters...now that's a chore...also small tip, the game cares about the parts you replace in relation to the parts you have to replace, so basically you have to put the new/fixed in the same spot as the part you needed to replace/fix
