I'm a long haul trucker and I have been using an iPad in my truck for GPS and entertainment since 2011. 2 years ago, I bought the SAME Anker BT speakers (and I have 2 others at home for the family). It is a great setup. I will also say that I DO NOT watch movies or anything else going down the road. I setup playlists and use those when I'm driving. I have setup podcast playlists so I don't have to work with the iPad. Since I drive an 18 wheeler I've used a GPS app designed for big rigs since 2007 (yes, right after the iPhone came out). It has taken me through all of the lower 48 states. I depend on it about 65% of the time and I also utilize other methods to do a complete trip plan for my trips. This was a very good review and I hope people will check out this capability. Thanks for a good video. Keep up the good work.
Yep. This is great for keeping your phone free while using navigation. Also, Ipad has split screen so you can have Nav and podcast or youtube up at the same time.
You can extend this pretty well, I've seen some good uses of Shortcuts that will increase font and icon size for example when 'Car Mode' focus is activated (which you can set based on various params like connecting to bluetooth for example) - That could also automatically reconfigure the Home Screen for 'car mode' - great video though, that mounting bracket in particular is interesting
looks good, you should look into getting a little USB bluetooth transmitter so you can bluetooth to the transmitter and connect to the car audio via USB/AUX to have full sound.
As a few others have mentioned, why not plug into the aux 3.5mm jack? Would be a way better, higher quality solution over a crappy bluetooth speaker (uh... no offense). I get not having wires, but there are ways to hide them almost completely if you want.
I bought the Monster Charger / Bluetooth device. Put it in back seat and a dual USB charger in the front. Between the both of them I have 4 USB ports. Bluetooth device streams through the car's sound system.
for Audio, just pick up a bluetooth cigarette lighter adapter. Turn your radio on the the specific station and the adapter transmits your audio from your ipad to your radio and plays through there. much quicker for latency issues.
Super helpful, I just test drove a car yesterday because I want carplay ha! imagine buying a car just so it has that. Perfect solution and I wondered if it works tethered to iphone (so no phone account needed) I also wondered what holder you use and what version (I also have a Honda). Everything you mentioned was perfect. Thanks so much!
Thank you for this vid! I have a Honda Civic 2012 and I was thinking of using the ipad mini and use it as a navigator and some sort of carplay/entertainment system. You’ve convinced me to save and invest in an ipad mini. I also have the esr magnetic car holder :)
IMPORTANT* If you plan to use the ipad for navigation or your car. you need to buy the ipad with the Cellular. they have GPS inside and would be very useful in maps. this will not work with just the wifi only ipads. even if you hotspot your phone on the wifi ipad. it will still be very slow.
I would use an iPad mini for navigation and music, videos if I have a passenger but that’s it. I’d put it only in my car but I personally wouldn’t use it for anything else, except for maybe drawing or to watch RU-vid on.
I do food delivery so it would be useful to enter the address in on the iPad on a mount instead of constantly having to look down on my phone for directions.
Nice video. It’s a nice set up, too bad apple removed car play from iPads 🤦🏾♂️ and you have to result to adding your own speaker to the car. I only use my tablet for gps purposes
Be ok if you’re parked..but driving that iPad will be wobbling around like a bobble head on the dash Minimalist 🤔 Carpet on the dash with red accent, iPad, iPhone and Anker BT speaker!!..that’s minimalist way 🤔 I dunno dude
@@LexShowEsbut do you really need that? It is a bit odd and personal hotspot is fine I didn’t even notice between my iPad mini 6 WiFi and my dads iPad Pro WiFi-cellular
@TheAsianMentalYogurt trying to use an iPad for navigation and not having GOS sucks. I tried it and realized that you need a cellular model if you want to use one in a vehicle for maps. Especially if you're in a place that has heavy traffic and y9ur route might change depending on accidents, road conditions, etc.
Gonna get a cellular model and pair it to my truck via Bluetooth just like my iPhone and mount it in same spot. Will get usb c to aux when I wanna watch videos
If you car has a built in factory USB plug (not cigarette lighter usb)- wouldn't the iPad play through the car's speakers if it was plugged in. I have an older iPad mini in my 20117 Transit Van & it works through my van speakers when plugged into the van's factory USB. BTW- my main use for the iPad mini in a vehicle is as a GPS unit ( for 8 years now) - simply brilliant.
You should just completely delete the radio and hardwire all the power into the harness. That way you'd actually get full use out of the factory amp. You could lose some weight to the car and it would look cleaner. You can wire a bluetooth transmitter module with the honda factory wiring right from the factory harness right up to the module, right up to the usb power, everything.
For what you spent on that I have a top-of-the-line Kenwood Exelon which has HD sound outputs on it sounds fantastic built-in navigation DVD player and Apple CarPlay and android auto with Wi-Fi so I don’t understand all this when you can make it look so much better with way better sound just my opinion
Can you further clarify exactly what it is? Are you installing an infotainment screen over the car's OEM one? Or replacing it? I don't understand? Part of the reason for installing an ipad on a mount is I still needs the Infiniti OEM functions that happen on the OEM screen, such as Sound controls, AC Controls and such. How does the Kenwood preserve those functions? As well, I want to replace the crap DVD screens in the rear seat headrest, but once again too expensive going OEM, so was thinking to just mount two ipads back there and using Apple Air Play
I have an iPad 2 that fits perfectly in my car but can’t use google maps because there is too much lag when I use the iPhone as hot spot. I was wondering if I really need to pick up one with cellular but u said it works for you as iPhone hot spot
Thought about this a lot before i got my model 3. Ultimately it needs to fulfill criteria like ease of use, always being there, doesn‘t need additional cable for charging and audio works consistently and seamlessly. You can‘t have all that checked without compromises. The nail in the coffin was that people recognize it as an iPad; therefore, even if it's locked to an Apple ID, I fear stupid first-time Apple stuff stealing thieves still breaking into the car.
Yeah I run a car audio shop and I’m telling you you can get way better quality and sound quality with navigation Apple CarPlay and everything built-in And something like a nice Kenwood that have 1280 x1080 displays for like 800 installed and on top of it if you have issues I take care of that as well and I only say this because I have done it both ways
I have a '14 Infiniti QX80 that has old school DVD screens on headrests and a crap 7" infotainment screen in front. Are you telling me you can install a new after market Apple Carplay system with an 11" screen in the front and new larger screens in the back for cheaper than throwing in 3 ipads? Cause I don't believe it. I bet I'd be looking at over $3k easy and I can do it with some used ipads for about half that. But do prove me wrong, I would be the first to admit it. :)-
For the brightness outdoor compare to iPhone how old is it ? And of course movies are darker how is it , I have some issues with iPad Pro 11 inch well might be screen freezing too much it’s months old for me and not liking this 6gb no matter the usage it randomly glitches anyways how is the multitasking max apps in the background my chip iPad is 12z I guess this issues is the main screen nothing but hardware but how is this mini 6 overall for battery heavy usage ? I have the dongles for type c thinking of downgrading to iPad 9th or mini 6 for easier use and or cost and portability center stage for this two devices mine doesn’t have that but speakers are great I can hear bass 4 speakers but I always connect to Bluetooth sound
It is my only beef too. I am personally going to create some really tight rails mounted on the dash so that I can slip the iPad up and out when I leave the car, and then just slide it in the rail when I get in and it will lay snug up against the current old school infotainment screen.
I’m planning buy one, next because I’m already bought (10) generations 11-12-2022 with cellular and love it but after I found out the mini I feel I am bough the wrong size.
The Wi-Fi version simply doesn’t work for GPS navigation at all , the Google map or Apple map needs fast connectivity to initialize the navigation and it cannot be done through hotspot connection to phone and gps lags big time the other downside of this installation is the warming issue, iPad stops functioning as soon as your car is under the sun or a little hot inside and it takes forever to cool it down to get it to work, this device is not designed for this purpose and it’s better sticking to Apple CarPlay…
And one more thing the Wi-Fi model iPads do not have the GPS chip so they need to use internet for localization that simply doesn’t work, you will need a cellular model that has the GPS chip and antenna, but on the whole you can get a device with Apple CarPlay much cheaper than this…
Unless you live in SoCal where the AC is always running...hehehehe. I've had my iphone mounted on my dash for years. It just catches a little bit of the AC coming from the vent and it is perfect and keeps the iphone nice and cold. I would imagine it would be the same with the iPad. Just have one vent partially blowing on the back and it will be fine. I had an older iPad hard mounted in my Jeep Wrangler and it never over-heated and it was hard mounted on the dash...no air circulation over the iPad at all and it worked like a charm. The interior temp while driving is usually low enough to not make it an issue.
Hope so this doesn't sound stupid at all. What if you have the ipad mini cellular but is too cheap to get a sim card for it? Lol could you just connect it via Hotspot for the internet source?
some Chinese company should make a single din car stereo which use iPad supplied by the buyer as the screen. the car stereo should have FM/AM receiver, amp, and some way to connect to iPad and also display backup camera on iPad screen. shouldn't be too hard.
i have iPad mini 6 wifi only, but turn by turn navigation is not working. Now i can't sell my iPad for cellular version as i purchased my iPad last month and selling it and getting the new one would cost around $300 extra. Is there any method to share GPS with iPad. Please make a video on the same.
Too distracting. This why I prefer having an actual infotainment system that has Carplay or Android Auto like Volkswagen. This means you can use voice recognition for maps and steering wheel control for volume and skipping tracks. Thus keeping your eyes on the road.
I am about to go overseas to UK., soon. My issue I want to use my iPad, which I have, (not the mini,) plus a Samsung smart phone When I arrive. I plan on using a car rental for my3 weeks whilst there, but my old throwaway (I only use in the past whilst in UK) phone needs replacing, so am going to get a UK., setup smart as I go yearly. I will need to use offline maps from airport to the nearest store to get new smart phone and use Google maps, but from airport to that store I will use Google offline as no inet. I won’t know what the car will have until I pick it up.Does using maps offline for Google work well as I will!be in a large city in northern England? Any tips welcome! I enjoyed your simple just now online and joined, thank you! M.
How can I have the iPad turn on and keep screen awake when it receives power, and go to sleep mode/ turn screen off screen when power gets disconnected? I have setup a iPad slide dash kit. Wich slides right in and gets power when key goes to accessory power. Please help
I'm thinking to get an older iPad to use as a navigator on my car since I don't wanna spend a lot of money on CarPlay Monitor or buy a crap for 100-150$
Thanks for sharing bro. To me, I a having difficulties with the navigation on my Ipad/android tablet. I share my hotspot to my Ipad and the music and videos work just great but is not the same with Google maps or Waze, it's just sluggish very slow. Sometimes it takes like a minute to move. Do you have any Idea why is doing this?
