I bought a new coolant reservoir and made sure all hoses are tightly clamped and it fixed it. Pretty easy job but you will have a lot of coolant on the ground because removing the reservoir. Hope that helps

Hello Car Ninja. I love your channel. Your knowledge about BMW's is amazing and I love watching you wrench on them. I've been a BMW fan for decades. I was surprised to see you using a Scotch Brite pad on that oil filter housing gasket surface. GM has a TSB warning against using abrasive pads on/around engines. Apparently, the aluminum oxide abrasive grit comes off, gets in the oil and can cause premature bearing wear/failure ( it is too fine to get caught by the oil filter). There is also a theory that BMW bearing failures are exacerbated by dirt entering the "clean side" oil passages when changing the oil filter housing gasket. Take it for what it's worth... just an FYI for you. If you want to read the bulletin, search for: "00-06-01-012F" Keep up the good work. It's nice to see someone who isn't afraid to work on the "Ultimate Driving Machine".

Can I please make a suggestion. When using the solvent tank to clean parts, please make sure that your wearing gloves to prevent the solvent from soaking into the skin. I had a friend who rebuilt transmission for over fifty years. He would never wear gloves and washed the parts in Toluene. He did this for years and then developed bladder cancer when he was in his sixties. He survived and after that event he always would wear gloves and always kept his hands out of any solvents. He was convinced that the cancer was caused by not wearing gloves. Why take the chance.

I know it's the customer's decision, but Jesus, why not just do the oil change now 1000 miles prematurely, and run your next oil 1000 miles further to make the next milestone? When a mechanic opens up the oiling system like that, it introduces a path for dirt to get in. There is no more critical time to at least change the filter if not all the oil.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Why do you not use some sort of gloves to protect your hands. I used to be a mechanic for a good number of years in the 80s and 90s, and I found that using surgical gloves was a big change. Otherwise the cleaning fluids especially were leeching the oil out of my hands, and I was also concerned about the toxic chemicals getting through the skin.

Hey Ninja I was wondering could you point me in the direction of the cause of a engine malfunction alarm/code? On a 2013x5 with the n63 motors. To my knowledge I’m assuming cam sensors.

Hey, I have the 2012 x5 xdrive 50i, oil is leaking from the passenger side front of the vehicle, excessive smoke and its grayish blue. The oil level drops faster than the norm. any advice? @carninja

Any n55 when you buy it have the oil pan gasket and oil filter housing gasket and variable esentric shaft actuator and timing chain and valve cover gasket and then the engine is bullet proof and then just cooling system (Mickey mouse hose) pump and thermo

Jonny, where are you from? I don’t think I have heard the backstory on how you came to the US (assuming you weren’t born in the US). I love this channel. Keep it up!

why why why would you not, replace with a new oil filter ? (nevermind change the oil entirely). filters are cheap, and you're right there, no extra labor.... ??????

For this particular family(N-series) of I6 engines letting this oil leak fester can cause the belt to slip and get sucked into the engine through the front crank seal. As you can imagine that's big $$$$.

Tyler does like to fake people out by making it look like he’s driving a cold engine hard at Omega Auto! It’s really funny what triggers people.
