After HOURS of troubleshooting I found out a car that I bought had a faulty fuze panel. The relay was not able to turn on and the fan wouldn't go. OMG such a pain in the but to find that.

I drove my dad’s ‘83 in high school. The thing overheated so often I just nonchalantly turned on the heater. Use to also stall out on any sharp right turns and would stall at long red lights. I’d have to pump the gas to keep it going. 😂 every person should drive a dilapidated car for a couple of years so they don’t spaz when things go wrong.

Thank you for sharing Doug. Very useful information. One thing I ran across on a used car. was the water pump impeller had rusted to the point it was barely moving the water. People need to look for a rusty film inside the radiator and overflow tank,Etc. All my best.

@@electronicsNmore I was able to do this and made it to my service station a couple miles away. Apparently a hose crystalized and burst open. Leaking out all the coolant. Your help saved me an engine! You have no idea! Really appreciate it!

When at idle such as drive throughs for a period of a time my Camrys heat begins to rise, but when turning my ac on I the fan turns on and my temperatures go down, would anyone happen to know the reason why?

Great video. I just overheated while sitting parked idling with the a/c on level 1 of 6. I lowered windows, turned on the heat, and started driving. Temp dropped instantly. I will check coolant level now but I read a comment about usually being faulty coolant cap. How would I know if thats it? Also, is there any chance this was a one time thing from idling parked on a hot day, or should this not have happened and something def needs fixing? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Good idea !!! But I thought turning the AC on would ensure that fans are blowing air through radiator AND ac condenser !!!! Therefore cooling the radiator before the cooling fans kick in during overheating x

No guarantee that the fans will be on, and if your thermostat isn't working properly, or you have another issue, adding extra heat to the engine isn't a good gamble.

Ok. I have a 2005 dodge caravan. Thermostat was changed 2 months ago. But still over heats. Will this work too to help it not over heat. It doesnt over heat too much. but it does leak out all the antifreeze.

My aunt says. Its the climate controls that need to be changed. My dad. Says it needs a new water pump if the thermostat is new. I just want to know what to keep the temperature on at all times while driving for my van to not over heat??

My car (2005 accord), overheats when it is going up hill for a while, or has the AC on for a while when it's 100 degrees out. Both fans work; the radiator hoses are both warm. Could it be the thermostat not opening up all the way?

Drain all coolant, replace the thermostat/gasket, then replace the coolant. More than likely the thermostat isn't opening wide enough.

No. Install a ball valve so you can allow flow if desired.

I have a 3.5L V6 FWD car and despite the temp gauge sitting at normal and never has gone above even with AC on the engine seems to give off a lot of heat. So much so that I can feel it walking past the engine even with lid closed. Performance is perfectly fine though so I'm not sure if it's normal.

I have a motorcycle that overheats at a standstill, but once moving it cools down. The fan does kick on when it's hot, so does that mean the thermostat is working and opening up into the radiator.... making the fan kick on? The thermostat fan switch works since the fan is on, I just recently changed and filled up coolant to make sure it wasn't the coolant but it still runs hot while stopped at a light. What can cause the motor to overheat at a standstill but then drops in temp once my motorcycle gets moving? HELP!!

@@electronicsNmore It shouldn't be the thermostat though, because even if it's not working properly.... it is at least in the OPEN position hence why the fan kicks on (fan switch temp probe at radiator location?), so fluid is transferring to radiator in attempts to cool down. Right? Or am I wrong here?

I have exactly the same problem and mechanics asked me to change radiator. The complete compressor and condenser. And after wasting 100s of dollars. The problem remains the same. Using ac car heats up. First ac stops followed by car overheating light blinking with alert sound. Things remain normal on a colder day. My check engine light is also always on.

Hopefully they replaced the thermostat. Make sure all fans are on when the AC is running. Scan the OBD port to see why the light is on. Thanks for watching!

@@electronicsNmore. My ac relay was bad. But now the fan works fine. Ac still doesn't cool. Just hot air. I have a VW so can't even see the compressor clutch spinning. How can you make sure that compressor is bad or not.

Check to see if the front of the radiator is plugged up with bugs. I hit a flock of butterflies before climbing the Grapevine on my way to Los Angeles. The car overheated but I was able to keep driving with the heater on. Upon reaching a car wash, I washed all the bugs off and it was fine afterward. The wings of the butterflies made a perfect blanket over my radiator.

You don't go by the reservoir, you feel the upper radiator hose.

And I replaced the radiator cap with one with a thermostat and it's showing 60/90 degrees. Do you think it's an electrical problem?

ELECTRONICSNMORE ^%% 1.) How do you check if your radiator is blocking Air or has good Air flow, how can I test it? 2.) How do you check if the water pump is working correctly? 3.) The Radiator Fan turns ON at 210F degrees on ALL cars? 4.) Why do you have to use Distilled water and can't use House Tap water in the Radiator? 5.) Thermostat OPENS at operating temperature at 182F degrees? by squeezing the upper radiator hose you can feel if the radiator fluid is flowing and closed at 180F degrees to check if the Thermostat is working correctly?

Sounds like the cooling fan isn't working. The car only cools with ram air against the radiator.

I had these issues, went to the mechanic and found out i had a cracked lower radiator hose... under $200 later my car worked fine... now it just stalls while coming to a stop with the ac on 🙄

Turn the AC on too. If it's a faulty sensor, turning the AC on will often force both fans on

Though what you say is true, I wouldn't advise doing it. If you have a faulty relay for one fan, a faulty thermostat, or your coolant is low, things will heat up with one fan. Some vehicles only have one cooling fan. Less heat is always better. Thanks for watching!

I've seen that too. If the fan not coming on is the only problem then the AC can sometimes force it to run. You will see an immediate difference in the temp gauge or else turn the ac back off and follow this video.

@@selkywaters Unfortunately many people aren't smart enough to perform that simple test, so you're better off doing as shown in the video to avoid confusion. The heater core does a good job cooling.

@@electronicsNmore Do both :) .... OK my situation... inside fan broke long time ago... I knew the temp sensor was faulty (not turning fan on) so I was able to make the fan come on with a flick of the AC switch. sure the cabin heater fan works and I've used it several occasions over the years! but I've also been stuck in traffic and watching the temp climb, windows down, heater and fan on full (different car), late for a flight... had I known back then that the AC turns the engine fan on could have made all the difference; back then my thinking was the AC would generate more heat operating so my logic was to leave it off. Knowledge is power :) Great video, the more people understand how their cars work the better :)

Then your coolant must've leaked out. Once you do as stated in the video, you need to observe the temp gauge. If it continues to climb, common sense you turn off the engine.

This happened to me. I pulled over at first exit ramp. Had a tow truck take car to a shop. It started. Guy drive it on tow flat bed. At shop guy cranked car and drove off of flatbed. The mechanic said it will never start again and offered me $300.00 for the car. I could not believe it. The car was cranking and driving fine when we left it the night before. No smoke, no steam. I believe he was a crook. I had my car towed home, which is where it is now.

It might be a good thing to know that if you need to shut the vehicle off, to make sure not to try to start it if it is at boiling point. A good idea is to carry a couple gallons of water to pour on the radiator to cool it.

PLEASE FUCKING HELP ME i have a 2013 charger v6 and its been overheating for about a month. i did everything and it still overheats, keep in mind there is no leaks anywhere in the car. I noticed when my car was at running temperature my cabin heater didnt work so i decided to do a heater core flush, and it didnt work. still overheated. next i replaced my thermostat and i purged it, didnt work and it was still overheating. And then i even replaced my radiator and nope it didnt work it was still overheating. My heater was still not working so i thought it was my heater core again, not that it was clogged or leaking i just thought it stopped working, so i bypassed it and now i dont have heater inside my car. oh and guess what. STILL FUCKING OVERHEATING SON OF A BITCH PLEASE HELP ME GUYS

There was no problem. The model car in this video was one of the most well liked and reliable cars made. 4.5 - 5 star rating. Nowhere near the poor quality of many cars made today.
