beach life-in-death is such a perfect song, the 13 minutes feel so cohesive and entertaining. when listening to it again now, i had a little realization about he last lines, the ocean washed over/open your grave. i understand them as a mental challenge you face a tough breakup. the ocean is your thoughts and your mind, the grave is memory of the person you we're in love with, getting over the emotional struggle is wave of wanting to move on from the loss, and when washing open the grave, you remember all the memories you have and how the person made you feel. a wound refusing to close. idk im just high

him saying "your body could fall apart at any second" could also be him reliving a memory he has of his lover, if he stops thinking about it, the memory will be gone and the reality of him being alone again sinks in.

The message of self growth in the whole “Mirror to Mirror” and “Face to Face” is genuinely my favorite concept of any album, I can’t help my cry my eyes out when it gets to that instrumental climax in Famous Prophets (Stars). Face To Face perfectly captures the inner growth of overcoming that huge emotional hurdle in your teens or early adulthood.

6:28 you say the lyrics aren’t right, it’s cause there’s 2 versions of this album, you’re listening to the newer re-recorded one (face to face). The original from 2011 (mirror to mirror) has the lyrics you’re reading on screen, for some reason some of the songs Spotify just never updated the new lyrics for

The drums throughout the climaxes of each song help me feel every punch. And will toledos voice is so angsty, monotone, and depressing that it feels relatable to me. It ironically adds so much genuine emotion to every song on this album

As for the mismatched lyrics in some songs, it is because this is the 2018 remake, and Spotify at the time you listened to this didn't update some the lyrics and used the ones from the 2011 original album

hearing him say "facts" to "i think evil is created by others to avoid dealing with their own problems" is so funny. thats like the absolute opposite message it was trying to portray. i'm not dogging him or anything i was confused about that line at first too. if your reading this will(the lead vocalist) has said in an interview "you are most succeptible to evil when you dont believe in it". also evil does exist and their called conservatives and nazis.

29:40 sorry to totally spam your comment section btw, this is the one song where I feel you kinda missed the mark of what it’s about, still your interpretation isn’t completely wrong (and mine obviously isn’t completely right), but he doesn’t wanna end up back together with her (Cate Wurtz, the ex who this whole album is about, she is transgender and when this album was written still identified as male) but rather the whole song and specifically the stars version is all about acceptance of a breakup and a lack of regret for the relationship. The metaphor of the Pain Star & of the mirror breaking kinda go hand in hand, this version of the album is called face to face while the older version is mirror to mirror, because in this newer version he’s able to look himself his feelings in the face rather than obstructing them with the reflection of the mirror. It’s a metaphor for growing up, as is confirmed by the ending speech (which is Bible verses Corithians 8-13) about childhood and growing up, the shattering of the mirror is now being able to see things clearly and realizing this was NOT an ideal relationship. He was only 18 when this album first released, wrote a lot of the songs when he was 17, he was a teenager through this relationship, and the breaking of the mirror represents maturity and outgrowing it, looking at it face to face. The deal with the Pain Star though, is a bit different but similar, the Pain Star shows up in Cate Wurtz comic series “lamezone” in a section inspired by a dream, where the character describes having a pain star entering the house. It only comes once every thousand or so years, incredibly rare, and if you touch it you’re met with the most inexplicable overwhelming pain ever, but only for a split second, then it’s gone forever. The character says he does not regret touching the pain star as it was such a unique and rare experience, even if it caused him pain. This parallels the relationship Will and Cate had, and in the song Will is saying that even though the relationship caused him pain and suffering, he wouldn’t miss it for the world. In the original album, the pain star & mirror metaphor aren’t included, but the reason they’re included in the re-recording 7 years later is because they represent maturity, knowledge, a lack of regret, and moving on.

why say he missed the mark on it if you admit that he's not entirely wrong and you're not entirely right? you could've just delivered your own personal interpretation on it's own instead. while i do agree with you for most of this there is also kind of no reason to dig into will's personal life here, and while it is public info, it's still sort of uncomfortable to namedrop her as will has gone out of his way not to after the negative response to the namedrop in minds (see: the second to last part of the vinyl version of life worth missing)
