Make sure the battery is disconnected! Make sure you check fluids and wiring! Also, you can disconnect belts if you think a component may be seized, but not the engine itself. Before I tried this, I had taken the spark plugs out and squirted a bit of oil in each cylinder and let it sit.
FYI, it did start today with a bit of gas in the carb. The gas in a fuel tank that's been sitting a long time is a bad idea. I disconnected the fuel line to the carburetor before I tried it.
