You hit a Hazmat truck and now you’re stuck and the people who’s job you made more difficult than it should’ve been have to help you out and it’s all being filmed and posted on RU-vid for us to enjoy. Thank you.
They even positioned the hazmat truck at that angle to prevent a car from thinking it could sneak through and yet still a car ended up wedged between the two trucks! Inconceivable!!
@@kanad.9397 the product they use is called "quickzorb" its also used on racetracks to clean up spills. Quickzorb is not its true name its just the name raceofficials use.
So the stupidity of people out there no longer surprises me after my years in EMS and fire services... but I will say I’m impressed. Very impressed. It takes a very special special person to wedge a car in like that. Grateful no one on scene was injured. Remember brothers and sisters, these people are out there. Wear your gear no matter the weather or scene conditions. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and watch each other’s backs. Be safe out there and God Bless.
Yeah, what an absolute numpty, they should have take his licence away for that and make him resit his test. No way he should be driving. Was he intoxicated? I would also like to see what his insurance claim form reads!
@@nphil93992 If I were the judge he has to appear before, I'd sentence him to 30 days community service: Washing and waxing every fire truck in NYC. Every day.
Palatine Black exactly, that’s why in our trainings they specifically say first thing we do is scene safety and scene size up, it is so sad too that on a scene we have to watch our backs for ignorant people who can’t just wait five more minutes for us to extract and save someone’s life just because they want to get home faster, God bless
Absolutely! A diamond-plate bumper was our go-to and it worked wonders more than a few times that I can recall… I was riding on the back step (that tells you I’ve done this a while lol) during one Engine vs personal vehicle MVA, and our Mack’s front end had barely a scratch but the Honda that got punted, was totaled. We never felt it on the back step either lol
Oops, didn't see all those emergency vehicles with lights flashing (at twilight) because i was too busy texting... And I just love the firefighters comment @23:06 "Looks like we're having a 2 for 1 special..."
Damn that sucks imagine your an over the road trucker and you ran your loads and right when your almost at the end of your hours where you can finally go in sleep mode you have a hazmat spill. Than some idiot hits your truck and before you realize it your out there from sun up to sun down working. God bless that trucker I hope he/she was able to sleep okay that day.
After operating EMS in New York City nothing surprises me anymore. This one however is quite special. New Yorkers worked really hard to get the reputation they have, and when you see how many ignore fire trucks or ambulances and even police cars because they just have to get somewhere.... It's not surprising but it never ceases to amaze me.
Assholes be assholes. I'd set the fine for that asshole at 10k + repair of all the damages they caused. Not only that, but they have to do it themselves. Draconic punishments are what gets the world back on track. Get found with bribe? That's 20 years in jail and the world fields. Are you a cop who got caught stealing? 50 years + work fields. Politician like Santos? That's life in jail. The higher the stepping stone, the higher the punishment and more evil. Unfortunately, with a system where the supreme court is infiltrated by paid stooges, or too weak willed people... that's not gonna happen.
Firefighter who never gets to play with the cool toys: Hang on, we've got _the jaws of life_ ! Other firefighter who just wants to get back to his warm bed: You know this door back here still opens, right?
It is absolutely insane how much went into that call. You had the firemen and the police, then we had the street sweeper and then the "salt" truck. Crazy!
if that fuel ends up in the canalistion, you can end up with a massive explosion. there was a case in mexico where a pipeline leaked into the canalisation, basically the city looked like it where hit by a wmd.
It takes so many because it's so important. safety to the citizens is paramount, if they only sent a couple of trucks and washed the fuel down the storm drain people would have been complaining that with all of the massive resources of the FD why wasn't this taken care of safely and efficiently? Either way, people fuss.
@@duenge look again at the video. Those round manhole covers they put the oil dry around were slotted/vented, and had Con Ed stamped on them. That means there were underground electrical transformers down there, diesel fuel may not be all that explosive but it is still damn flammable when mixed with sparking wires, and manhole fire of any kind can turn explosive real quick with all the different gasses that accumulate down there.
Well, there's a reason some refer to the lights and siren as "the cloaking device", because the one universal thing said by the idiot driver is, "I didn't see you".
*In Nat-Geo commentator voice* "Ah yes, here we see the common mammal known as "entitled-icus jackass-icus" doing what is natural to them. Doing whatever it please because they feel they can, only to suffer the dire consequences of reality when it strikes like a cobra. It truly is a remarkable sight that never gets old."
I was waiting for the cop to walk over and ask for the driver's registration and insurance. Why not a license? Because, we already know who this guy is: he's a dumbass!
As a famous person once said "stupid is as stupid does" but this is a whole new level of stupid.... but total respect for the emergency services of NYC
Not surprised, it's New York. Most videos I've seen of emergency responder's in NY are of people not giving two shits about emergency vehicles or personnel
There are faster and less flashy ways. Usually a pump out of the tank and a clean up dpes the trick but FDNY takes everything to a whole new level lol.
I've done similarly stupid things before in my youth. I learned from it the hard way and made great strides in changing. That doesn't mean there are no consequences. It doesn't matter where you are, but the direction you are going in life that matters. My so-called buddies from the past don't even recognize me. Be the change you want to be.
For those of us that didnt have the patience to watch the whole thing could you tell us what they used the ring for? Iv worked as a plumber as well and now im curious lol
Being someone who lives in California, I see more than my share of entitled idiot drivers, but I gotta say this is some next level stupidity. This person makes drivers here in the San Francisco Bay Area look safe and sane, and that's saying something! I thought it was standard Drivers Education knowledge to never get this close to fire apparatus working at the scene of an emergency. At least the Acura suffered much more servere damage than Hazmat 1.
This video explained a lot of things to this Maine boy. When ever we see New York plates we head for cover. I always figured they drove so badly because they were looking at the trees. Evidently there is no vision requirement in New York, That would explain the vehicles passing apparatus going code three to a scene, running into a big white truck pulling two silver trailers, and hitting a fire apparatus while trying to pass a tractor trailer. I truly hope the driver of the reed car was cited for failing to move over a lane for the apparatus and failing to use caution at an emergency scene. Perhaps even a couple of hard hits to the head for endangering the responders.
I was looking at the hole wondering the same thing! I mean it's a good sized hole and those tanks hold about 75-100 gallons of fuel each. That tank is totaled.
I think the tank had small holes, initially, dripping to the street (as can be seen when they have that yellow "kids-swimmingpool" below it...). then Hazmat made a bigger hole to pump out the remaining fuel, and then sealed that up, again?
Well at least it's red on red so won't need a paint job on the rig. Gonna love to hear how explains this to allstate, or the general etc ....no new car for you and you have to go apologize to the nice fire truck.
I remember watching this video when you posted it first to your channel. I'm even more dumbfounded now by the jabroni in the Acura after watching this for a second time. I can't even... LOL
Oh that's just awful, the driver scuffed the fire truck's bumper with his vehicle because he was in a hurry :( I feel bad for the firefighters. Hope they get it fixed soon and the driver of the car have to cover the damage to the truck.
Hazmat 1 driver : ok we back to station now Hazmat 1 unit : yes, i am very tired *A few minutes later* A guy with a blind eye driving a red car *brak Hazmat 1 unit : ahh shit we have a new work to do
So the fire services would do the after accident cleanup for free? I mean wow, they took care everything from taking care of the Acura and patching the truck's fuel tanks.
Yeah alot of fire departments work with local road crews to handle accident recovery after they deal with the accident itself, primarily because even though the danger to those involved in the accident is gone, the scene itself is still dangerous because of shattered glass and debris. The vehicles involved in the crash, if not already recovered by a wrecker, are also a threat to safety until they are recovered. First responders in general are responsible to ensuring scene safety until the scene is fully cleared.
With all the lights and colors, it is interesting as to how ignorant many drivers are as to traffic. That car made a stupid move to go between the engine and the TT unit.
"Honey, you would not believe this, I was driving in NYC minding my own business when a Fire truck pulled ou in front of me, and then a tractor trailer came into my lane... yes.. the lawyers? Ummm.. Ben Dover and Screw Me....yea I think we can win... The car? Ummm .. Just a slight scratch on the bumper....."Frinkin New Yawka
If they saw this video? I doubt they'd be paying for it, and there are probably a dozen first responders who would testify it was his fault, especially the men whose truck (or trucks, gotta include the semi) he hit.
@@heathershimamoto121 Do you know how car insurance works? Regardless if its your fault or not, the insurance is responsible of paying whatever is left on the loan or lease. Especially since he crashed with another automotive vehicle. If the owner has a deductible he would need to pay his deductible. If he doesn't pay the deductible would get sued by his insurance.
@@musicanoofficial7233 Is that still the case for liability only insurance? What I'm reading is that liability only insurance (the minimum in my state) doesnt cover the policy holder, only the persons/entities he caused damages to. Could be different in other states though, IDK. We have a surprising number of people who drive nice cars and pay bare minimum for insurance.
Heather Shimamoto since this car is relatively new it’s a 2018 through 2020 Acura TLX, I doubt he has paid it off completely and I’m sure he’s on a loan or a lease. Which ever it is, his loan lender or lease institute require the driver to have a specific amount of insurance to cover the cost of the car, regardless of the accident. Most dealerships and lenders won’t let you drive off in the car if your insurance doesn’t cover the minimum cost of the car.
Could you imagine loosen the 2 full tanks of fuel on a truck like that with the prices of fuel these days would be crazy all the money running away down the drain 🤣
Maaaaan...... I can only IMAGINE what it sounded like inside that car as that trailer was pulling away... Ripping that rear door skin right off. LMMFAO!!!
