Car SOS has to be the best car restoration show on TV. They have made so many people happy over the years even if there illness took them before they enjoyed the finished vehicle!
Spent a fair bit of time with my mate burning around in C870 EUD. Great cars, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, noisy as hell but just love the sound they make. There's nothing better than the sound of an International spec 3.0 litre 6R4 engine screaming in your ears.
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 We were just reminiscing about the Eifel rally 2003 as you replied to this message. My mate was driving the Metro for Michael Kitt, I managed to get a seat in an Belga T16 for 3 stages till it blew up. Long story, but chance of a lifetime. No fire suit, jeans and a T shirt. Display rally rules, mental. Loving your 6R4 , what a car..
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 Unfortunately I haven't seen him in a good few years now I think he still lives on the I.O.M . Last I heard the Metro was getting restored and was being displayed at Williams F1 HQ . I'll have to dig out some pics of the 6R4 and get them on my Instagram page .
I saw Tony Pond in 1985 at the Donegal Rally - That memory will never leave me - A modern R5 just dosen t cut it ! I just can't wait for this to air - The like of these cars will never be even dreamt of again! Thanks a mill !!
Me n my mates were at different stages of the Lombard RAC rallys in the 80's ... night stage near Tamworth, Sutton Park ... damn great memories and even better still great mates after 47 years ... pure magic 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for posting the great video, car SOS is a great programme, about 4 years ago had them do my MG Midget Bonnet refit/paint matching and what a fantastic bunch they are, dealt with Dave a co owner, nice chap to deal with. The MG 6R4 is a dream car for me and I bet it's a real labour of love keeping it on the road, if it wasn't for guys like you these ground breaking cars of the group B era would be forgotten.. I used to marshal a few stages on the Lombard rally back in the day in deepest wales and Sutton Park and I have to say the 6R4's sound is the best, that growl is unmistakable..back in 87 I had a Metro Turbo, loved to drive it including the horrible torque steer..I blew the gearbox up in it and spent 2 weeks of a summer holiday fixing it..wish I still had it now...keep up the great work...
I really enjoyed the episode on the 6R4, I saw one back in the day on a stage of the Lombard RAC it was amazing then and even watching this video also, Tim & Fuzz along with specialist’s help nailed it
watched the show last night, was just the best episode ive ever seen. and the David Gillanders wheel just was the perfect final touch - Fuzz is one lucky guy too
This was the best car SOS so far, all the better without the parts blagging nonsense, Tim is a proper car guy and very knowledgeable and I think that part of the show undermines him a bit. I was lucky enough to drive a road going 6R4 back in the day when we had one at the BL dealership I was working in for a launch evening. I have two overriding memories of the car, one it was quite difficult to drive and two how incredibly wide it felt on the road. With the benefit of hindsight these group B cars were dangerous but they were such a spectacle particularly in the forests I'm glad I was lucky enough to see them being driven in anger. Great car and a great show.
Thanks Phil, you're right they're an interesting thing to drive aren't they! As Tim said on the show, cars like these wont happen again, but you are also right about the safety of them!
Autoplas Metro 6R4 Can you imagine if the proposed group S had come to fruition, I remember a group of us talking to Michelle Mouton at a service halt in Wales on the RAC one year back in the days when the drivers didn't disappear into a waiting motor home and she was saying that although she would compete in the new cars that the drivers were worried that they were too fast because unlike a race track where there was catch fencing and run off area in rallying there were trees to hit.
That looked fun, . Last year I watched a few episodes of,, car SOS,,and they had a 6R4 on a ramp up the corner,, it was in the works colours, I wasn't bothered about the car they were fixing ! I was just waiting for the Metro to come back into shot , Keep up the good work 👍👍
It was first aired on Thursday March 11th. Will be on repeat a few times I am sure. We couldn’t release this until after the show went out. All filmed after lockdown but before 2nd lockdowns. Lots of Covid tests etc and isolating to be able to go in the car together
Yes you may be right but we will keep these as special events cars, track days, classic car events, etc. There is no justification for "banning" classic cars and there will akways be fuel for them etc. You can still buy coal for stean engines can't you. Exactly the same. The total emissions from classic cars is tiny in comparison to the rest and most of them spend most of the time locked up anyway. If we're responsible, use non hydrocrbons for the boaring day to day stuff and classics for fun.
