gunyvw Oh believe me I think Audi is absolute euro trash , As reflected in the resell value, however I thought $60,000 was a little steep for an MDX, a tick over 50k seems pretty decent, But for 60 K, that interior needs to improve, I really do like the MDX, and TLX but their interior for the class is far behind And it is honestly insulting

I love the LED headlights. They should be on all of Acura's vehicles. The "power plenum" shield, however, still needs to go. It doesn't matter how they tweak it...it still doesn't look good.
He and others need to realized how advanced the ACURA /Honda Navigation interface and voice command in.. I own a 14'MDX Advance... He could have said: "Find me a hotel" or "find me the best hotel near me?" All these commands work...... This is one of the best systems on the market this being my 6th ACURA product ever and this comes from selling several other rival luxury brands in the past
Thanks for the post. I particularly appreciate you taking the time to actually show the interface for the infotainment system. I've heard a lot of grumblings from other reviewers about the nav system and dual touch screen, but yours was one of the few that actually went into specifics and showed the interface.
He mentioned AcuraLink as an improvement, but then did not use it when he tried to use the Nav system. If you just use AcuraLink, it works exactly the way that he wants, with a voice recognition system that works at a server outside the vehicle and then sends the coordinates to the vehicle.
Mr. Cooley, my family is a large fan of MDXs and I was wondering if I should upgrade to the 2014. The thing I like the most about my current one is the way it can move like no other three row SUV. I saw the 0-60 improved but you said the sportiness is lacking. Would it be better for me to upgrade for the tech? Please help me decide.
i would like to say something about the repetitive buttons. its nice to know that you can still find a secondary way to get to where you want when later in the car life the button may be broken
Cooley is kind of old school with his reviews, but he is blunt and honest on his review of cars. He says how he feels and how well or poor the tech and powertrain works. This is actually quite helpful. If he sways too far toward one pole or another it will be apparent. I mean isn't the MDX based on the Pilot? Also, if that is true, the Pilot (to my eye) seems to be the more practical choice, while the MDX is a lesser degree of the luxury 3 row SUV category.

Wasn't trying to sway your opinion but a little test drive will not come close to ownership!!I've owned x5/ranger over sport /and Mercedes ml /and I can tell you it just wasn't worth the extra headache and money 💰 wasted in the shop with manufacturing engineers scratching there heads trying to figure out what's wrong with my vehicles🤔 Currently I have 2015 mdx tech didn't want to gamble with that new 9 speed tranny and it's been worry free!!:) Don't get me wrong the pilot is nice but, it looks more like a mini van without the sliding door, And also drives like a bus 🚌 smh ... but Anyways Merry Christmas to each its own!:)
What part of "one letter at a time" does he not understand? You have to say ONE letter at a time, not ALL of them all at one time for the navigation. This is just for PLACE names. You can actually speak entire STREET names. Or on Acuras you can just say "Find nearest hotel" or "Find nearest Chinese restaurant" - and yes this part even works while the vehicle is moving. I use mine like this all the time.
autofanatic1 The fact that Acura has a feature that makes you say each letter at all is subpar. You ever use a BMW voice command system before? You shouldn't NEED to use the Find nearest hotel command, whatever you choose to use, should work fluidly, otherwise it shouldnt be on there.
I don't know why car makers don't just have an option where you can have the head unit all but disabled and use mirroring mode for media and nav. It would make life SO much easier. That's one of the reasons that I prefer to stick to older cars and just install an after market head unit with my cell for nav. Also, these lane keep assist systems are a horror story waiting to happen with drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Especially if they shut themselves off.
He and every other car enthusiast reviewer forgets how to present professionally. Take some Xanax and maybe wake up in Syria and let us know the cons of every car in existence. j
ewt415 Yes the MDX sucks so much that it is the best selling luxury SUV. The MDX does what it set out to do the best when compared to the competition at a much lower cost.
Acura fanboys are the biggest cry babies. He's straight up about the car. He says it how he feels. This guy reviews cars for a living. We get it, you love your MDX, for it's price, it's an amazing car. however, if compared to the other cars it's competing against, it's not as good.
+Sly Creed I don't own this MDX BTW but how exactly its not as good? Compared to the same year BMW this car has a lot more features, Better Design, one of the first auto makers using full LED lights.. The only thing dragging vs the X5 is Power but who buys an SUV to drive in a sporty fashion? Russians? And even then is only Miliseconds behind, Not even a full second in 0 to 60.
+skirmich I own this car. It's my all season car. My summer car is a 335I Coupe. Acura MDX is a good car to get overall, however, everything you have mentioned in your comment relates to things that a normal person looks for when they buy a car. What about handling? Performance? Acura fails to offer any of that. When I got the MDX, I got it because it is the best car for it's value, because I already own a car that excels in handling. but sometimes, just because it's the best value doesn't mean its the best car. I am not hating on the car, I am just being realistic. No car is perfect, however, there is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out flaws in a car.
+Sly Creed I have 3 mdx's because I love it so much. If you want hi performance and handling from an mdx then your completely wrong with your ideas. Thats not what an mdx is for. It has the best tech for the price, best reliability, great style, high class interior and exterior, the best awd system on earth, and a great fanbase. bmw can do sports cars but cant do an suv as well. case closed.

I can't believe Acura decided not to offer for American market all around camera view, heated steering wheel, fog lights, real wood inserts, head light washers. Acura offers those options for European and Russian customers
I have a 2010 acura tsx and voice recognition never works for me, I took it to the dealership and they said that it doesn't work because I'm spanish and I have an accent, but then we tested it with and english speaking person and it didn't work either. I came to the conclusion that acura has a glitch in their voice command system and they do not want to admit that there is a problem overall the car has been very reliable except for that little issue.
Nice suv, I like that MDX. It's one of my lottery picks if I ever win mega millions!! I prefer the reviews where the narrator just tells you about the features of the vehicle without giving his personal opinion and saying what HE doesn't like about it. It's too petty

Lol@ Brian Cooley. He complains (in the 2011 MDX review) he doesn't get why a SUV needs any sort of driving enjoyment (pretty close quote there), suddenly he is surprised the 2014 MDX focuses on tech over outright "driving joie de vivre[?]"
Honda does amazing engineering with their Acura line up. They should put more effort in the non-Acura cars. The new Civic is one devastating example... Mr. Soichiro Honda would never approve of the design and engineering of the Civic line...
CMBS doesn't bring the car to a stop but mitigates a collision by cutting the throttle and dropping the speed by 7 MPH. The only car that stops completely is the Subaru legacy but the downside of a fully autonomous system like that would be the possibility of a false positive making it really dangerous on the freeway.

When Cooley drives the 2014 Infiniti Q60, he's going to hate it so much that the steer-by-wire system is so lethargic and lacking steering feel. Nowadays most luxury automakers are screwing up their cars so much that it will most likely cost more to have it maintained abd repaired.
I have the 2014 MDX Advance and this guy has no clue how the NAV system works. Its very simple, he just knocks the system but isn't using it properly. This guy is always hating on the Honda Acura products. I have a 2008 TLS and the 2014 MDX Advance and me and my wife love our Acura's!
This guy will complain and CRY about 4 WHOLE BUTTONS for the seat heater function but has 0 issues figuring out the stupid tech crap for the DVD system?? Ok boomer.
This cost to most and the build quality on the exterior and interior is poorly made the material does speak luxury and very expensive like the other competitors
honda is a piece of shit...i have a 2007 accord transmission died had to spend 3 grand to get it fixed plus the OEM paint is horrendous and clear coat fell off
za1pp Honda is not a piece of shit, just because yours is not good does not mean all of them are not, my dad owns a 1990 Honda Civic and been great with few problems.
