I only recently played Portal and 2 for the first time in my life a couple months ago and I was fucking blown away by it. It was far from what I was expecting, especially as far as storytelling goes. If you’re playing it for the first time, definitely look out for secret rooms and things like that because there’s a lot of them and a lot of the story is told through the environment. It’s definitely rewarding finding them on your own, especially since some of them are very difficult to find! Those games are just so much fun. Definitely in my list of top tier games I’ve ever played. The best way I can describe it is it finally felt like the first game I’ve played in a LONG fucking time that genuinely felt like a passion project and like real work was put into it. And they were made something like 11 and 15 years ago! I’m now convinced games were just genuinely better back in the day and it makes me sad…

Fun fact, this songs motif reappears in the game a lot, from the light bridge sound effect and a tune that plays when you have the companion cube.

I played Portal 2 at the ripe age of 6 with my late father, beating the regular single player mode 2 years after his passing filled me with a strong sense of longing. This song literally means goodbye… technically “goodbye my dear”. It just gives me chills, how it makes you reflect on your journey as a player. I played this game when I was very young, and couldn’t help but feel claustrophobic with the idea of being a lab rat.
