I loved to go to school, because there was a Caran D'Ache Pencil Sharpener Model 455 and I could bring all my pencils and colors up to date. I hated it very much, when my writing tools were in a bad condition. When your child does not like to go to school, then equip the school with this pencil sharpener. Your child will enjoy to sharpen the pencils so the drawings and colorings will be more professional. This is the best gift for kids and students.
I love your reviews! I really hope you see my comment, because I have a bit O information about this sharpener that I feel people should know. I have owned the sharpener for a little over a year now. It is really important to note that colored pencils gum up the blade. Badly. And it doesn't take many sharpenings for this to happen. It is the waxy/oiliness of the pencils that cause this. The crank will become rather difficult to turn and get very herky jerky and tough to turn as the layers of stuck on colored pencil build up. I have tried using a regular #2 pencil to help "clean off" the blade in between colored pencil sharpenings. It doesn't work. The only thing you can do is frequently remove the blade and glean it out with a toothpick and stiff brush. So, I only really use this sharpener for graphite pencils now. If I have a colored pencil that shows up unsharpened, like the Prismacolor Verithins, I will use this to sharpen them for the first time. But, it is a super big pain in the rear to use this sharpener exclusively for colored pencils long term. Just speaking from my personal experience with it for over a year. ;) I do think it is an excellent sharpener for a graphite artist.
So I’m a crazy person and bought this too, a little over a year ago and I still love it just as much as when I opened the box. The teeth marks it leaves are negligible compared to the derwent supertip sharpener I had. I feel like it does have a stop, because at a certain point it won’t allow the pencil to keep feeding in, you can keep cranking, but the pencil is not being sharpened. Also I find it works best if you have it clamped down. Was it expensive of course, but it is indeed a work of art which I love ❤️ and i won’t have to keep buying and trying other sharpeners, I’m set for life. It’s also very easy to clean out the sharpening mechanism. Thanks for the review! And congrats on the new puppy 🐶

Just FYI, it does stop sharpening at the setting you choose (you will notice less resistance on the handle). You can keep turning it forever if you wish, it just takes nothing more off... I like the solid metal jaws over others with rubber jaws. I was looking for the most solid planetary geared sharpener I could buy (really pleased with mine)

@@TheArtGearGuide this model is a reissue of a 1930s model last made in the 1950s and 1960s....its an expensive model and very sought after by collectors.....even the reissue is mostly bought as an investment show piece............not to sharpen pencils!..............only a private school would have had the budget to buy an expensive pencil sharpener for children to destroy or steal! most schools just buy a Dahle!

#Fae's colour inn. I agree i paid 26 US dollars on my sharpener and it gives a great sharpening to my pencils and coloured pencils, plus it comes with replacement blades, trays, which most brands DON'T do
Great review and a great quality product. I have a Jakar 5160 crank sharpener that in all honest seems almost as robust and has a stop feature. It takes every size of pencil I have and cost me around £20. You can also easily access new spiral blades for it from around the £10 mark. I’ve not had to purchase a new blade yet and it is 2 years old and still as sharp and effective as the day I got it. It does have the "click" that you mention in the video, but it doesn’t effect performance in any way.
Do you know how it acts with pastel pencils? I heard great things about the jakar, but I also use pastel pencils and want one sharpener for all purpose. I bought an M+R handcrank sharpener about the same price as the jakar. At first it did a great job for all my pencil, but after a month it broke all the points of my pastels. Even when I regularly used a full graphite pencil to keep the blade sharp
Chantal angel I know that I can sharpen my one and only white Faber Castell Pitt white pencil and it does sharpen the Derwent White charcoal and Medium and Firm charcoal pencils. If doesn’t sharpens the Derwent Soft charcoal pencil though ( but to be honest I cannot get any sharpener of any type to work on that, only a scalpel blade) That is as much info as I can give you on pastel and charcoal type pencils in my sharpener, but I hope it’s useful. I will also be clear that I haven’t used them in around a year, so I’m not sure if they still would sharpen after using the sharpener for around 2/2.5 years

I completely agree with you about the Jakar sharpener, I have heard excellent things about the Jakar but I don’t own one personally. I do own the M&R Hand Crank sharpener and that is a fantastic device, I also have the Derwent Superpoint which again is an excellent device. I have a few hand held sharpeners, two M&R, a KUM which are also amazing, but a subscriber from Hong Kong sent me a pack at Christmas with some pencils etc and other things, but in the pack was a cheap plastic sharpener and it is one of the best I have ever used, I am going to be doing another comparison video and I will show that plastic sharpener in action on that video. With regards to the Caran d’Ache sharpener, I hadn’t tried pastels or charcoal pencils until you guys mentioned it and I am kicking myself because that should have been in the video. But the reason I didn’t try it was because I have quite a lot of pastel pencils and I started of sharpening them in sharpeners and hand crank sharpeners but the pencils kept breaking so I started sharpening then with craft knife or Stanley knife, this way I have a lot of control and the pastel cores never break. There is no doubt that it is time consuming, but some of the pencils cost quite a bit and I don’t want them breaking and wasting. However, on that note, as you asked I checked and funnily enough the Caran d’Ache Sharpener works well with pastel and charcoal pencils. I will take some photos and update my written review for you guys tonight or tomorrow. I will say this however, I only tested a few pencils and I will keep trying for a few days more and see what happens. Thank you so much for your comments and questions both of you. @@TheArtGearGuide thanks Harry for you're answer and of course you're great review! I have the metal expensive M+R deluxe hand crank sharpener. I bought this one instead of the cheaper plastic one, of which I heard many good things also with pastel pencils. It did go verry well for about a month and after 4 a 5 pastel pencils I sharpened with a full graphite pencil to keep the blades sharp. And somehow now it breaks every pastel pencil I put in there. I use carbothello and pitt pencils. If I sharpen the same pencil with hand sharpener ore blade it's not broken. And magically it still sharpens all my normal pencils.. I don't know what happened and I can't explain it. I'm also sorry that I did not buy the cheaper M+R. And although I still think of buying it, I'm afraid it will be a disappointment again

I appreciate you reviewing this. I have looked at it and lusted after it. I do have a Swordfish handcrank that I love. It sharpens all my pencils- including pastels, though some care and caution is required with very soft core pastel pencils- and has never let me down. The stop mechanism is broken after a year's heavy use but I am used to how long it takes so this is not an issue. But I do see other sharpeners and still want them and seeing them reviewed is always a joy. I probably wouldn't buy this one at that price- especially as there are similarly robust, heavy sharpeners for around £40. But it's still a nice machine and I enjoyed seeing it in action. That's a beautiful looking wee dog, btw. I am not really a pet person but even I would have my heart melted by that fella!

Hi Just my tuppence worth, I had this sharpener at school in the errm cough 50's. The sharpener was on the teachers desk and we had to queue to sharpen our pencils. But your point (scuse the pun) about not stopping while sharpening. The slide that holds the pencil is your depth gauge you only pull out as much as you want shaved off at the 'nib' end. Hope this is clear and helps. I watch all your vids and enjoy them immensely.
My goodness, I remember having to queue at the teachers desk to sharpen are pencils, not quite the 50's the 70's for me, mind you I don't think it was a Caran d'Ache sharpener, not at my school anyway. Thanks Harry! That was awesome. Caran Dache pencils are easy to sharpen. I never had any problems sharping them. It could be more beneficial watching how it works on more mid low quality pencils though 😅
Mehdi Torkamani that is an excellent idea, I am going to do a video on erasers and one on sharpeners and I will try all manner of pencils on it. When I am doing a review of a product I try not to mention or view other companies and their products which was why I used just CD pencils in this review. But you are so right that showing low level and mid level pencils getting sharpened would be beneficial as you rightly pointed out, CD pencils sharpen well because of the high quality wood. Thank you so much Astrid and you are right, you can get a £20 or less hand crank sharpener and it will still do an amazing job. this is just a luxury item really, I think and although still practical, not £110 or practicality lol.
It looks great but reviewers photos on amazon reveal that this steal well constructed Swiss made sharpener which replicates the original 1930s unit, has a single sided blade and that can be a problem as the unit ages the pencils may cut slightly lopsided since its not a dual blade equally balanced sides turning sharpening the pencil in the middle.

I just bought myself a CD limited edition Wonder Forest sharpener as an early Easter present. I must say I was a bit disappointed with the bite marks. Having searched online how to avoid them (came across your review), and trying all sorts of things I just came up with something that seems to work ... a simple rubber band around the pencil, that is a broad version ofcourse. Paper towel, plastic wrapping, post-its, ... nothing worked because there was no grip on the pencil. Just give the rubber band a try 😉 I love your puppy BTW! 😍 But I guess it has grown a lot since posting this review. I fully understand your 'betrayal' feelings towards the previous dog, I have the same issue. But you know you can't have them longer than the age they become. Thanks for reviewing all sorts of art stuff, it really helps me making choices.

Thank you for the review. I have always wondered about this sharpener but was not willing to make such investment and colored pencil art is just a hobby right now. I do have to say that it is quite odd how you must hold the extension while you place the pencil in the hole. I purchase a Rapesco 64 (~$18) recommended by a pencil artist in one of the online classes I take and I love it. The cover comes out but it has clips that leave it out in place while you insert the pencil and auto-stops once the pencil is sharp enough. However, it does not have the two different sharpening options, but that is when my other sharpeners come handy.
Marianella Villanueva yes you are so right, I have a few other hand crank sharpener and when you extend the mechanism it holds once fully extended , this one doesn’t and as I mentioned in the video, someone with a hand, wrist or arm related injury or disability I feel would struggle. I have a silver one and I totally agree with the points you make. Though in my case I would not recommend this sharpener at all, at any price. Mine has a barb in there somewhere that tends to scratch up my pencils as the mechanism turns around them. Also, the tips of some Luminance colors like Buff Titanium crumble while sharpening, even with the blunt setting. Pablos come out fine, though. Another minor annoyance is that the drawer isn't locked in place and will fall out quite easily if you don't have the sharpener clamped to the table (which admittedly they do recommend). So for me this Caran d'Ache sharpener is simply overpriced and underdelivers. It was a gift and I can't return it, or I would have. Still love their pencils, though. Looking forward to your comparison with other sharpeners.
That isn't good that it is doing that to your pencils and for that price you really shouldn't expect anything to go wrong. I haven't experienced the drawer sliding out yet, but then mine is very new and still quite stiff, but in your case, it doesn't matter if they recommend you attach it to the table, when moving it from point A to B, the drawer should not easily slide out. Like you I absolutely adore their pencils, absolutely love them, and I love certain things about this sharpener, but the price is just way too dramatic given much cheaper models exist and in some cases to a better job. You see with their pencils, those who say you can get a colored pencil that would be the same colour for half the price of the luminance for example, well that cheaper pencil just wouldn't have all the qualities of the Luminance, it might have one or two, but not them all. Aww Koda is adorable..❤️ I was wondering about this sharpener as i saw them being touted on their Facebook feed . It seemed crazily expensive but of course if money was no object or if one was collecting such things .. I have a couple of handc crank sharpeners ; my favourite is the swordfish . It only cost about $25 Canadian ( including shipping ) and it works so well. Plus as you mentioned, it does have the sharpening stop so valuable pencils aren't eaten away, thanks for the review !!
Thank you so much, that was the only real reason I done the review, I too was so interested in the sharpener given its price and really wanted to know why it was so expensive and when I looked about there was no reviews of it, actually detailing information about it, like I say in the video, there was only two unboxing reviews and that was all I could find. So I knew I really had to review it then for myself and for viewers and subscribers of my channel and website. I wanted to make sure that people could get a chance to see it and know more about it without having to actually spend that amount of money. After all, that is what the point of a review channel is. But I am so happy I have taken the plunge and spent the £110 on it to review it, because judging from the comments, I have hopefully saved some people a wee bit of money and at the same time, I have another beautiful Caran d'Ache product in my collection, yes highly over priced, but gorgeous all the same. First of all Harry - what a gorgeous pup! A sharpener that costs over a hundred quid, wow. I have a real issue with crank sharpeners that have metal teeth - the pencils cost a lot of money and I don't like seeing them full of holes. You'd think that all of this type would have rubber grips? On an economic point, it must be cheaper to produce 3 rubber grips than 3 steel ones, but I suppose Caran D'Ache wanted this item to be solid steel and maybe they thought that using rubber would cheapen it in some way?
Hi Clive I completely agree with you about the pencils ending up with holes all over the barrel, I know it doesn't cause any issue to the overall performance of the pencil but I am very fussy about things like that as well. I think it is a bit of OCD on my part, I could never have chew marks for instance all over a gorgeous Luminance pencil cause by me chewing it and I think the sharpener teeth thing is the same. I Have only used a cheap mechanical sharpener from Lidl for under 10e, I think. I bought a few extra also, since they worked great. Also the sharpness stop worked similarly in that if you set the stop to the extreme, it would keep sharpening since the fine tip from softer pencils propably crumbles or is beyond reach. Just adjust the stop to your liking. As time passed, the spring in the Lidl sharpener loosened up, so you need the actively push the pencil inside. Its really not that inconvenient, but something to be noted when getting really cheap products.
are absolutely right my friend, this sharpener is super expensive but there are many other much cheaper sharpeners that will do a similar job, some time better and sometimes not so much. One of the reasons this sharpener is so expensive is the materials it is made from but overwhelmingly because is made by Caran d'Ache
Caran d'ache also makes a much cheaper Model (466 made of plastic) which only costs 32 CHF! From experience of almost 50 years this model is good enough! :D But why are you expecting a stopping point? You can choose how many turns you want to do. There a stopping mechanism will hinder you! I like this more! ;) However with the model 455 you can exchange the sharpening mechanism. I wonder whether you could do this on your mentioned "much cheaper models on the market"? I guess you can keep this model (of Caran d'ache) for generations! If you take this into account I think it's well worth it's (too high) price! :P
This is the MacBook Pro of the sharpeners, if you understand the metaphor.... my Helix 16€ hand crank sharpener does the same job, plus it has rubber teeth and it does not mark the pencils so much... thank you for your review Harry.
You can really go crazy and buy an “El Casco Pencil Sharpener With Base Side / Load Black and Chrome M-430CN” on Amazon US for the low, low price of $335.83. The upside is free international shipping. Jeeeezzzzz. I’ve got an M&R brass bullet that cost $5 that probably sharpens just as well. 🤔
Yeah you are so right, I have the same M&R sharpener and love it to bits, I am never without it. But as a reviewer, I have to show it and use it showing subscribers and viewers so that they can make up their own mind. Prior to reviewing this sharpener, I had looked for a review on it as I wanted to find out for myself why it was so expensive but could only find one or two unboxing videos. So I had to get one and make sure people like me wanting to know why it was so expensive could find this video and determine for themselves as to whether or not the product is worth the money. It’s crazy to think of any sharpener this expensive, but as you said, there are many cheaper ones out there that I am sure do a better job and I am sure there are ones even cheaper still and just as amazing that I have yet to find, but I am sure they absolutely exist. I have the Jakar hand crank sharpener. I recently sharpened my brand new set of 15 Caran d’ache Grafwood pencils. As I started to use them, the leads have begun falling out! They seem to have snapped off below the surface. Also, my sharpener leaves bite marks in the wood!
Hi Harry, WOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAH 😲 £110!... it's exactly like the one my teacher's used to have on their desks in the 1970's, so if it can put up the the hammer of school kid's for year's and year's it's got to be made really well. I would have liked one just for the nostalgia but I have really bad ostio arthritis so I think that it would be wise to pass on this and go back to my Stanley Knife. But a stunning bit of 'ART GEAR', as they say buy cheap buy twice! Plus it would be a piece to pass down the family! But the price tag will be holding back quite a few Artists! Great review. The problem I find with sharpeners is not how well they sharpen when you first get them but that they don’t last, especially with pastel pencils. I had one that lasted 1.5 years. Got the same brand again to replace it and the second one lasted only 3 weeks. Got a third one and it too only lasted about a month. I got a new, different brand, yesterday (Swordfish - recommended by Jason Morgan for pastels) so I’m hoping this one will last. I keep a separate sharpener now for coloured pencil bcs the sharpeners, even cheap ones, seen to last just fine with coloured pencil.
Thanks for the review! I do like this style of pencil sharpener, but I just could spend £100 on it. My husband would pack my backs for me if I did... 😝 I think I’d spend £20-25 max on that Caran d ache sharpener. However I did grab a few over the last year, one was a cheapish electric one on amazon, that’s great for the polychromos, and really quick when I’m working hard with lots of colours, I just have it next to me and chuck it in and it’s a few seconds, nice long points and no damage to the pencil or my hands in the twisting motion of sharpening as I have damaged my hands. The other two I really like is I think £1-2 helix one, barrel shape, amazon. That one is pretty amazing, long sharp points. The other is KUM automatic long point. I think maybe £5 on amazon. 😀
Abigail, if I didn't do reviews and I just bought this sharpener because I wanted it, I like you, my feet would not touch the ground, I would be out lol. I am going to be doing a comparison video on sharpeners very soon because of the feed back I have had on this sharpener and just really because they are so important to us colored pencils artists. Any way, a subscriber from Hong Kong before Christmas sent me a pack with coloured pencils, sweets a few other things and a little small plastic hand held sharpener. I tried it when I opened the pack and it is absolutely amazing, I was blown away at how good it sharpened, I will be showing it off in the video. The Art Gear Guide Fab, can’t wait to see the review. I use my electric one more and more as I have damaged my hand, but I’m on the look out (as always) maybe for an even better one! The electric one I have now isn’t so good for the luminance as they are a slightly thicker pencil to polys. Your dog..... is just so cute! My dog is 2 and literally rips any dog bed apart! 😫 we have a plastic one now which he seems not to chew but it’s not as comfortable! 🤷🏻♀️ 😀
I have the Helix crank sharpener and it great and reasonably priced You set the dial to how you want your pencil sharpened and efficiently stops at the perfect point.

Good grief I admit I have wondered about it lol, but could never justify spending that amount of money on a sharpener, I could buy more of their pencils instead both the museum aquarelle pastel pencils, which I am slowly building up as they really are in a class of their own, I will stick to the ones I have a swordfish and a lovely electric one and my M&r brass one and the xacto knife which I am mastering for the Caran d’Ache pastel pencils. The best part of the review however was seeing Koda, I was hoping you would do that to keep us updated on his progress, he’s spoilt with a lovely bed and those toys clearly well loved already

Well, it could double as self-defence weapon, if nothing else. :) And it's probable extremely durable. But otherwise I agree with you, I can't see the point of paying 100 pounds for it, you can have four koh i noor hand crank sharpeners for that price (I mean in UK - in Poland more like ten) and they do stop (well, usually) after the pencil is sharpened.

Hello Harry!! Koda is so adorable and I am sure he has made the emptiness from the loss of your other dog a bit fuller. Now for the sharpener. For what it costs you would think that it would not leave tooth Mark's and would stop when maximum sharpness was achieved. I can see someone trying to sharpen a pencil and it disappearing because they dont know to stop it and check. Could you do a review on Derwents Lightfast pencils please! It definitely looks very well-made, but £100+ feels like too much money anyway, especially because of the 2 flaws you mentioned. That's why I would be really interested in seeing your review for Koh-I-Noor 7-12 9095 sharpener.
I have a metal Helix adjustable sharpener which cost 10 GBP, and a plastic Mitsubishi KH20 which cost 15.48 GBP The helix takes wider pencils, but marks them, and the Chinese Mitsubishi leaves no marks. Nether stop reproducibly when you sharpen and there is no rhyme nor reason to this. I bought cheap pencils to test, and some ended as short stubs. Both have one helical blade. I think the reviewed sharpener is the same. In the 1960s, crank-handle sharpeners had 2 helical blades. I do wonder if that design gave better results.

I would like to know what you do when the pencils become small and no longer point at the crank sharpener, stop sharpening and using or do you use another sharpening method?
That is indeed the biggest problem with hand crank sharpeners. When this happens I just use a hand held sharpener. You see the hand crank sharpener is excellent if you have a pencil with an off centre core because it holds the pencil tight in place and the blade rotates around the pencil rather than twisting the pencil in the blade. By the time the pencil is too short for the hand crank sharpener the core is really short

I agree that this sharpener, whilst a great tool, is overpriced. I have a hand cranked sharpener which I've had for about 8 years or longer. It was under £10, I think I got it at Lidl's if I remember correctly. It is unbranded and sharpens all of my different sized pencils, including my Derwent and my Luminance which have a bit larger diameter. It still operates perfectly, and still has the original blade. The only thing different apart from the price, is that it only has one hole below the handle to secure it to my desk. Having the ability to secure it side on would have been handy. Your wee puppy Koda is gorgeous, I have a new puppy too, she's only a week older, she was 11 weeks old yesterday. They are gorgeous little furry crocodiles at this stage, (Did I notice puppy teeth injuries on your hand when you were showing us this sharpener?) So cute, but hard work training especially the toilet training. Kikopup training on RU-vid is brilliant if you need training tips. Best wishes and enjoy your new fur baby.😃🐕😍
I have about 6 sharpeners, a couple of Faber Castells and KUM plus some cheap ones... I'm VERY surprised that I need so many types... I have FC Polys, FC Durers, FC graphite and some others... I would've thought the FC 'treble'(?) would just work with all their pencils? - why don't they just test when making the sharpeners?? I have to carry half a dozen sharpeners on my urban sketching outings... I'm guessing I can't take my Xacto knife on a plane in hand luggage!!!???
tinglestingles I know exactly what you mean, I have quite a few sharpeners and they all work differently on certain pencils, it is frustrating. Also, regarding the Xacto knife boarding a plane I think you would have a pile of Airport Police on top of you. I am going to be doing a comparison video demonstrating all the different sharpeners that I have and try to show them off in what they do best and the various points they create. I would like to know how little turning is really required for sharp or blunted. You seemed to turn a lot so I thought maybe you could have stopped earlier and still got the result you got. 100 pounds is a lot of money! Its a substantial part of a full set of pencils or neocolours. Thanks for the review.....made me want it though!
I understand what you mean, on all the other hand crank sharpeners I have used, you can actually feel the blade shave the wood when you turn the handle, you can feel the friction. On this it was very different, you know when you are on a mountain bike and you are going up hill so you drop the gears and it looks like you are peddling 100 mph but going nowhere, this was the same for the sharpener. I have since tried only turning it a few times despite it feeling like nothing is happening anf you are right, it is taking off much more than expected. Thanks for mentioning the teeth marks stuff, case despite not actually affecting the pencil's performance, it's a majoooor pet peeve of mine. Great review again Harry :)

Nice review, but £100 for a sharpener? pfftt. I think Caran d'Ache are just abusing their name on this. I have the Helix hand crank sharpener that i've had for over 7 years and it's still as sharp as it was when i first purchased it.
I agree with you on the price tag but I don't think they are abusing their name sake for the sharpener, but I totally respect your opinion and really appreciate you commenting. You see, if you take a look at the Caran d'Ache pen range, some of their pens are sold for £25 and then some are sold for £7000. Now I personally have never ever tried a £7000 pen so I can't speak from experience, but I cant think that a £25 pen and a £7000 pen would look or feel much different when written with. I would guess, if I wrote the exact same phrase on two separate sheets of paper, using both the pens mentioned, I don't think the run of the mill average joe could tell the difference. Maybe a hand writing expert, but that is all. I think this sharpener is aimed at this market, the Man or Women in a £20, 000 suit, £50, 000 watch on their wrist and a £7000 pen in their inside pocket. I tried to get it to make my lunch but it just sat there looking at me 😂😂 thank you so. Much about Koda, he is thee most spoilt dog in the world, every time one of the kids goes out with friends they come back with a new toy for him and my wife is worse, she comes back with all sorts for him. At night he is definitely a Mummy’s boy and during the day when everyone is out, he is my wee mate.
And he absolutely knows it, he is much bigger now obviously, but is still so handsome and when people stop my wife in the street when walking him, it is like he looks at the person, stands up straight and says to the person, "Hurry up and admire me, I have Huskies to see and places to go, woof woof." lol However, I am so much more humble than Koda so I will say thank you so much for the compliment, I really appreciate it and he is very much a Daddy's boy, he is with me everywhere I go.

Hi Carol, thank you so much for the question and I am sorry it has taken a while to reply, unfortunately the only way you can sharpen then is by removing the blades and with a small file, sharpen the blades as you would do any other Knife, I haven’t done this myself but I think it would be quite tricky. Mind you I don’t think it would take much to sharpen the individual blades, I think the curve of the blades is what might make the process tricky. I personally don’t have a file for downing this type of thing but I have just ordered one online today and I will give it ago, once I try it I will get back to you and let you know the results and the process and whether or not you should try it.
a split bush could solve getting marks to the pencils, surprised it dint come with such things, but for the bigger diameter pencils, then id use a thin piece of tin about .2 of a ml thick to wrap around the pencil would work a treat ;-)
I never cease to be amazed by high quality items and companies that don't care about the results of the output...ie. put a Blackwing LE pencil in this machine and it comes out shark bitten. ..And if you sharpen say 5 times you'll get a multitude of messy bite marks all along the barrel. Give me a Dahle 133 any day, cheap and cheerful, but it works and is gentle with my A class pencils. Ehu spend £100 on quality but don't care what your pencil looks like...just doesn't make any sense to me and never will.
When you get your car detailed are you happy when the detailer leaves some unpolished wax on your new beemer, on the basis that it is "quality wax"? of course not, you get him/her to polish it out. So why are beautiful, quality pencils any different?
I do agree with your argument and completely respect your opinion. I guess the counter argument to your point would be, so long as those bite marks aren’t actually hindering the use of the pencil, ie drawing, sketching, writing etc, which is why most purchase them in the first place, some may be able to accept a few aesthetic imperfections. However, looking at your side of the argument, paying so much money for the item, you really wouldn’t expect any flaws At all, especially given the nature of the product. Let’s face it, the sharpener has been around for many years, it wasn’t a product that needed designing from scratch. But, if taking care of the aesthetics of your pride and joy, your slightly more luxurious pencils is important, I think you are going to love the next review I upload 😉😉 thank you so much my friend for sharing your thoughts on the CD Sharpener and incredibly valid points at that.
Great review! Thank you! Question...when you pull out the part with clamps, does it stay out until one begins cranking? On my Mitsubishi KH-20, I pull out the front part, open the clamps, put the pencil in, and then there is a lever inside that trips when I begin turning the handle and the front part begins pulling the pencil in. Is this the same way or does one need to hold the front part out while opening the clamps? Please let me know if you see this .
is this made in China? does it say where it is made on the actual piece? I have an El Casco Spain one and while it looks nice on the desk it is a terrible tool.
It's made in Switzerland and it's a wonderful sharpener. The crank does turn when the pencil is sharpened to a point, but it doesn't remove any more pencil. I was eying the El Casco but opted for this one and I'm glad I did. The little indentations are negligible, at least for me.
What do you mean learn how to use the sharpener, it’s a sharpener, there isn’t much to learn. Also you are quite within your rights to not like the video just as I am with my rights to tell you nobody forced you to watch the video. I take it you have free will? In which case might want to start making better choices that video was quite long, that’s 20 odd minutes of your life you won’t get back all because you made poor choices.
Also if you could be bothered to do a bit of research before blurting out comments that will make you look like an ignorant fool. My speech is impaired due to the vast amount of medication I take for pain after serving in the British Army and having my spine shattered during an operational tour. The medication actually makes me stutter a little bit, have a dry mouth and also can become forgetful. So well done sir for highlighting the obvious. I have no problems at all with people not liking my videos, in fact I will always try to change whatever it is someone doesn’t like, but I don’t appreciate rude ignorant fools.
