Patrice Caratini was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1946. In parallel with his advanced studies he learned the double bass, an instrument for which he won a first prize at the Conservatory of Versailles. At the same time, he acquired a solid grounding in jazz, notably as a result of regular frequentation of the jazz scene. He is the founder of the Onztet orchestra, a formation close to that of the big band, and of several jazz duos or trios, notably in collaboration with the guitarist Marc Fosset and the accordeonist Marcel Azzola. He has appeared with great artistes such as Stephane Grappelli, Martial Solal, Kenny Clarke, Dizzy Gillespie, Didier Lockwood, etc. Patrice Caratini is also a band leader, an orchestrator, an arranger and a composer. He has received numerous commissions from the French state, from Radio France and various festivals, and has composed film and incidental music.
