Excellent mod. Our 2012 Lunar Lexon has a bar similar to that fitted as standard. Our strip extends beyond the width of the caravan on each side so the water actually drains well clear of the van.
I also made one for my bailey wyoming after rebuilding the front window frames. My chanel is plastic and works very well and gives me confidence it will stop most water ingress that would normaly occur
I have a 1995 eldis thats got severe water ingress on the top corner of my front window. It was there when i bought it, but my missus and i ever saw it under the interior patch up. Now, i only want a couple more years out of it and then its getting split up and scrapped as eveything works how it should etc. This idea is ideal for me, along with some transparant form of sealant to completely seal up one front window. Brilluant idea mate. Ill let you know how i get on. Cheers. 😊
Great idea, have same issue on my sterling, its on the back window right beside the bed.. have been thinking about something like this, now seeing it i am definitely going to do it, thanks!
The J section has worked well, it is still securely attached and is deflecting the water well. When we use the caravan we are still getting minor condensation at the base of the front windows, but nowhere near as much as we used to get. We are also using a dessicant Kilrock to dry the van over the winter.
Good luck with the fix. Now we just need to persuade manufacturers not to build in obsolescence to their products! If water is directed away from the windows and doors in the first place you would not get leaks.
Hello Alastair, your video is a perfect example how one can provide some easy fix redundancy in the design to ensure durable long term caravan! Would it be possible to gain your view on the area where the rear bumper laps under flooring and whether this also requires further proofing?
After sticking the J section on with double sided tape, I also used silicon sealant to protect the tape from water, top only. I did not want to screw the section to the caravan, as I did not want to add any holes where water could get in.
I used double sided number plate tape, and sealed the gap i.e. the thickness of the tape with silicone on the top side only. This will allows a non destructive repair, which could be removed at a later date if required. One winter later it is performing well with no signs of it coming loose. It also stops detritus getting into the window seals.
Yes it has worked. To obtain, Google J section or look on eBay, it is a standard item, but you will save postage costs if you find a local aluminium wholesaler.
