Watching this video may literally save your marriage!
We've all been there- You are late to your destination, the campsite is packed, and EVERYONE is watching you trying to land that van on the tightest site at the camp...... We've learned a lot in the past few years, and now work as a team to make sure the van is exactly where we want it. We have very clear roles, we follow the same processes and make sure everything is done safely. In this video, we share what we have learned and hopefully it help you become proficient much more quickly!

Another great vid. My wife and I have towed campers and our Jawa for many years now. My hook up system is fool proof, my wife goes to the amenities while I hook up. Still married after all these years😁

Perfect timing. We picked up our SG and have been having so much fun setting her up. We got home and had to do a bit of tight 3 point turning, avoiding fences and trees. We got our new walkie talkie out of the box and realised we hadn't charged it 😝- thank goodness for mobile phones. 😅 What a great van. Thanks for all your tips we really have appreciated them all and your photos and videos are awesome.

Useful video guys:). Would like to had mention of importance of safety for the person standing near the hitch on hook up. Make sure no risk of them being pinned by car or fingers jammed round hitch. As you stressed, communication is key. Loved your no chatting rule. So easy to lose concentration and miss something. Always difficult if another camper decides to chat to you half way through.

Take the chains off last. If the van suddenly moves after you've taken it off the ball, it will roll away. At least you'll still have the chains connecting you to the car. This is for everyone's safety. The other week someone's camper rolled away down a hill.

Hey guys love the vids I find it easier when taking chains off car to leave them crossed up and put on a frame as when your putting back on car there already on that side crossed up you don’t have to dig under a frame to get other side chain to cross up and put back on but yes definitely crossed up the way to go

Ive always been of the thought process of leaving my safety chains till last in the off chance the van wants to run away. Also that brrakaway cable would be useless with a zip tie softening it..

Hi guys, love your vids, I have watched most of them. My wife and I waiting to pick up our 2024 Infinity 15 in the next 10 or so weeks. I have a question about when you run the Dust Reduction System (DRS) ie, only when on dirt or all the time when on the move
@empty_nestadventures
@empty_nestadventures 3 месяца назад
Good thing about the Dometic DRS is that works purely on positive air pressure, so moving or mechanical parts. Means nothing needs to be switched on or off and doesn’t need power

Guys. Always forget to ask. What variable height tow bar do you use?
@empty_nestadventures

Hi mate. It’s a Hayman Reese drop hitch

We also use the uhf communication process.. Another tip which I’m always reminding my co driver/ navigator/ wife is “ take your finger OFF “ the PTT button on the handheld uhf once you’ve talked .. otherwise the driver can’t communicate with you 😀

Nice video guys, wife & I both had a laugh regarding our reversing escapades. I see you’ve ditched the Stealth & in the Commander. Would be interested if you do a walkthrough & hybrid v fixed roof comparison

I think each time you need to check the Hayman Reece tongue pin. In some areas there's a little game where they remove these pins to cause incidents. When you unpinned, the drawbar moved sideways. This was because the brakes aren't perfect, and you only double chocked one side. I also disconnect the chains last as they can save the van from moving significantly if a major mishap happens with the brakes or chocks.

Hey Kim. It’s a Hayman Reese drop hitch. Works a treat and is solid metal

Nice work guys. Marys job is guidance and Xo750 jockey wheel duty as i work from drivers side (had one on old forward fold as well) . Second trip with our Iconn E4. Hitched up left Cobdogla and stopped at Blanchetown for a coffee. She getting coffee me visited the mens walked back to van just to check things as you do and the jocky wheel was down! When she came back with the coffees i asked her to look at drawbar on van, her face went white as, I tilted jockey wheel up and never said another word about it to this day. She will be watching this video.

I would love to change our Jockey wheel over to that one, I just hate putting the normal jockey wheel on not confident that’s it’s in the correct hold, (I leave it husband,) but we had a similar one on our little Avan complete confidence in it, well I felt it. We cross our chains as we had to help a fellow who lost his caravan on a bump near Tunnel Creek and we had to actually try digging him out trying to get his A frame off the road, we succeeded only when a guy stopped who had a HiLift Jack, he then had to limp to somewhere Broome Or Kununurra to get everything checked out whether he twisted of broke something. Yep we’ve all had those brain fades when unhitching or hitching still married ❤

I did this Jockey wheel as an upgrade to our tool trailer. I think I got on sale for like $450. Fit straight onto the existing frame

Thanks for the video. A couple of questions. At what point do you put your stabiliser legs down? We also noticed when you’re set up with the stabiliser legs you only have the back of the wheels chocked. Is there a reason you take the front chocks away? Thanks for your help. Our van will be ready in a couple of weeks so this video was very well timed!

Glad it helped!! We put the stabilisers down once we’ve levelled the van with the jockey wheel and the car is parked up. The wheel chock was picked up by our neighbours kids who were helping us pack up!!! So no reason at all except for they were one step ahead
