Chondrites are my absolute favorite type of meteorites. They are the most primitive phase of solid material in our solar system. Much of the chondritic material was consumed by proto planatery bodies and planets in the accretion disk and metamorphosed into new minerals. Much also remained forming asteroids and other bodies in the solar system. Most famously the asteroid belt is home to alot of this rogue primitive presolar material. The asteroid belt resides comfortably between Mars and Jupiter! This particular group show in the video is Carbonaceous Chondrites. It's is extremely primitive over 4.5 billion years old. Carbonaceous chondrites have been shown to contain amino acids and other precursors of the ingredients of life. Fortunately they still fall to earth and represent some of the most important scientifically researched meteorites ever discovered! The Maine Mineral and Gem Museum has some of the best examples of Carbonaceous chondrites from modern falls on display!!
