The trick is to disconnect all the connectors, loosen the 17 mm nut but you don't take it out all the way, keep it there and pull the steering wheel towards you and then remove the 17 mm nut.
Just a lil comment to help your videos, and us as viewers, perhaps have a flashlight handy so you can shine it into dark areas whilst trying to show us something. Thanks for making good videos of a cool car!😁👍🏻
Can't tell you how much this thing makes you love driving the evo! As another viewer suggested use the 17mm nut that's holding down the steering wheel and don't loosen it all the way then start pulling at the stock steering wheel. This will save you $90 for a new clock spring hahaha
I'm very late to this post but ... Very nice steering wheel. Should not disconnect the positive terminal first though. Leaving the positive terminal on while installing the negative terminal can cause damage to the ECU/ECM and other sensitive electronics. Should disconnect the negative terminal first. If you do make the mistake and disconnect the positive terminal first, be sure to also remove the negative terminal. When reinstalling, install the positive terminal first, then the negative. Just saying 🙂
@@dondada6496 Thanks I'm loving this steering wheel. That's very good information that I will definitely use in the future! The headunit is a tesla styled 12.1" screen. Nowadays I think there will be better ones on the market than the one I have but make sure to get the one with the most RAM and cores if you plan on going this route 👍
If there is I don't really think there is much of a difference, ill try to make a video of the difference in a week's time and maybe show the stock vs the aftermarket. Actually, ill make the comparison when I install the clockspring! Stay tuned haha👍
Thanks! Yea it was definitely pricey, looked around for alternatives but they either looked meh or were pricey like this. (ended up using my stimy on this hahah)
JEFF! Same thing happened to me when I pulled the steering wheel out, how did you put the ribbon back in?? Any help would be appreciated please and thank you!!
Great video man, now I want one! :D I'm also looking to change my 8 year old battery, Do you have any problems with the one you have, and what brand is it?
Thank you! I actually changed my battery a couple of months ago to an Optima Red Top. The oem battery lasted for a while and I think the red top is actually a bit stronger, when I start the car it cranks a lot faster and starts harder... don't know if that's the right term hahah
At the time I bought it, it cost $1299. Kind of pricey and you might be able to find cheaper options nowadays haha. It definitely is worth the upgrade though just for the feel of the wheel 😄👍🏼
Hahah thank you very much, the steering wheel feels amazing as well! Here is the link to it: www.realcarbontastic.com/product-page/mitsubishi-evo-x-ralliart-lancer-custom-carbon-fiber-steering-wheel-manual 👍
@@YourLocalChink Are you in socal? If you are we can meet up and I'll give em to you hahaha, if not message me your address and ill send them over haha
It's going to be a little but pricey to replace but hopefully someone can learn from my mistake! The old steering wheel I might keep it and put it on a wall or something haha 😄
The carbon fiber wheel is holding up well! I love the feel of the steering wheel compared to the stock and I haven't done much to prevent oxidation because I think cf will always oxidize. the best way to stall that would be to keep a cover over the car and most of the time my car is in a garage, hopefully that helps but yea the only other way that I did for one of my CF parts was to completely grind down the clear coat and re apply a new layer 😁👍
ya I just had mine yesterday and was planning to ceramic coat it but my friends advice me not to put any thing slippery on my streering wheels, so I might just get some Swheel cover and probably some spray to maintain
Yea be careful of putting anything slippery on the steering wheel, don't want to get into an accident! One way might be to get one of those window cover things for the interior 🤔
Of course! I just bought the clock spring so I will be uploading the video in about 2-3 weeks 👍 I have 2 other videos I am working on right now so I will this weekend 😄
Oh yea definitely hahah. I broke the clock spring so I am getting an airbag light and a button on the steering wheel isn't working properly. Sometimes I'll get a awd service light as well so I'll let you know in a future video of what happens after I install a new clock spring
Yea that is what I paid, I think there are other companies now that offer it for way less. I think I also have a defect in mine as well so…. Might be good to check out other companies 👍🏼
@@lbcitylacounty4982 The leather portion of the handle on the right side wasn't fully flushed and a bit of the leather is sticking out. It was supposed to be tucked behind the plastic but yea they didn't do quality control too well 🥲
