You have inspired me to work on and repair all of my small engine equipment. The things I've worked on actually needed repairing too. I couldn't have done it without YOU and RU-vid. I just thought you should know... Also, watching every single one of your videos is now (and has been for a while) a routine part of my life... THANK YOU.
Been trying to fix an old chainsaw for days, had the carb apart 6 times to clean! Your tip on removing the screen to see daylight had me give it one last try. 3rd pull and she fired right up. Thanks for the tip!!
Great video ! These days, carb cleaner, carb soak solvent, and compressed air are the most used tools for my tune ups (due to the effects of ethanol & varnished gas)
Thanks for getting back to me.! I will pull the plug and check for spark after its warm.. I put in a new plug, air and fuel filter, and fresh gas. Also checked the exhaust screen (Clean). I noticed that he screen looked like it has been hot/lean, so I richend the carb adjustments. Cant get it to idle right .. Not sure where the factory idle adjustment should be, it doesn't say in the manual THANK YOU.
Best DYI videos out there ! Thank you !Just did a rebuild on an o28AV super but I think the adjustment screws are off..the cover say 1.25 turns .. But I don't know where the starting point is.. Help !
I was cleaning a carb a few years ago not even thinking of where the carb cleaner was going to come out I put the straw in the inlet and sprayed, it shot out directly in my eyes. Never had anything burn my eyes that bad
I have a Stihl 028 AV Super Wood Boss. I watched your carb rebuild video, but I have a few question. I rebuilt the carb, and even installed a brand new one, but I can't get the saw to run. I've COMPLETELY torn it down to the pistons and rebuilt it with all new bearings/gaskets. I'm getting spark. The impulse line/fuel line/fuel filter are all good. The impulse line is bursting with air like it's supposed to. When I prime it with a bit of fuel through the spark plug hole, it fires up a bit until
@pivotboy63 i know but not what your thinkin under the "carb" theres screws the go on the gas tank when i remove them nothing and behind the carb to the motor is just a whole for gas
Great video, I did a rebuild on a Tollitson carb. I replaced the Plug to clean out the small jets on an old farm boss. How do you keep the Plug in? Mine pops back out?
Nicely done! I have a Stihl WB..circa 1982...Dad bought it new.. Two weeks ago it sputtered out while sawing..."ran out of gas" -but the gas tank is full...now it starts (pops) on full choke but wont stay running... Replaced fuel line, rebuilt carb -same problem. What's the impulse line do? Mine looks OK from what I can see. I figure thats the only thing left, unless I missed a carb issue -I didnt see anything wrong with the carb or fuel line.
I was working on a Walboro HDC card and it had a weird needle lever and pin design you dont remove one screw you remove 2 which removes a plate and the pin is built on to the plate. How often do you get these kinds of carbs if ever
Great video! Do have any experience with a Stihl AV24? I cant get the throttle linkage off. It has a hook (like the one your video) but also 90^ bend on the end. Thanks.
it burns through all of the priming fuel. I've adjusted the lo and hi carb screws according to the manufacturer (1 1/4 turns counter clockwise for both). So, it looks like I'm just not getting fuel in the car. Any suggestions? I could take some video/pics for you and upload them if you'd like?
@donyboy73 would you have any vids in how to clean a push mower carb altough i didnt think that a push mower had one are its not safiscictaied as other carbs cause mine revs up and down and i hate that sound (4.5hp 22in cut boloens )
5:20 , I was cleaning the carb on an 028 and lost that little spring!! lol, better get a complete kit, my 028 will start on the first pull then when it get warm you can't start it again ;-( the diaphram will shitty, how do you test the impulse line? Thanks Sean
Do these style wall bro carbs have needle valve seats. I have had bad experiences where the seats have swelled up mid carb clean from getting sprayed with carb cleaner on carbs off of Tecumseh and briggs motors. I'm. It positive but I think they don't becuase they have a fuel pump diaphragm not a typical float? Am I correct? Please help!
I have a Stihl 021 and the problem i am having is it won't start , or I can get it to run it runs great then when i turn it off for a while when i go to start it again it does not start, replaced the spark plug and fuel filter fuel line is ok, i get spark, but the saw just will not start again i even tried using starter fluid into the carb still nothing, what do you suggest
hi dony,i have a probem with my saw and i wonder if you can help me.. the saw its a stihl 028av super and the problem is tha oil come out all the time down from the clutch-dust protection plastic! i clean the oil but the next day its out again.. i have and pictures if the are any way i can send to you..
Hi, I'm looking for a replacement carb for my 028av, it has a HU 40C tillotson on it. The nylon fuel inlet 90 is cracked and I can't get parts. Can I get a Walbro repacement or do you have any old tillotson carbs for sale? Also I could use 028 for parts as this saw is hard to get parts for due to the age. Thanks!
Hi Dony Is it normal for these 028 Wood Boss AV saws to not have the second hold down screw for the air filter? Because all the vids i see with other Stihl saws, have 2 silver srews for the air filter...
Yes, the air filter cover has the screw built in, and it will fill the 2nd hold down screw for the air filter when the cover is installed. Notice that this cover has a silver screw on the outside of the cover, and newer models have a black lock. But, I'm wondering if you can still buy the air filter without the 2nd screw. I contacted Stihl, and they recommended I manually remove the 2nd screw on the air filter.
I'm working on a Stihl 028WB and can't figure out why it won't idle properly... I rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel filter and spark plug but it still revs up spontaneously and just won't idle consistently. I've also spent about an hour tinkering with the carb settings but that hasn't helped either. How many turns out is the carburetor supposed to be? ANY other suggestions as well? Thanks!
donyboy73 Thanks for the reply! I checked and the impulse line seems to be okay. I'm thinking maybe I should do a pressure test, perhaps it's the crankcase bearings. I have another humble question... If you stop your video at 1:43 you can see a small hose on the very left corner stemming from the gas tank. My 028wb has the nipple from the tank but no place to connect it (at least not an obvious place to connect it). Any idea what I'm supposed to do with that? It's leaking fuel and I can't find a useful parts diagram online. Thanks again for all your help!
One more question doc. My buddy has a saw that runs for thirty minutes flawlessly. Then it starts idling rough and has no power when you go to cut a log. Ive checked the gas cap, spark arrestor screen, it has clean gas. When I went to put new fuel in it, there was no fuel filter on the line or in the tank period. I feel like it's going to be in the carburetor.
My 028 also runs really well but it gets hot, then shuts down and won't start till it cools. I have a feeling it's overheating. Wish I knew of a trustworthy small engine guy near me.
Dony, great video - great help. One question: I have the exact same saw as in your video - ca. 1988. I went looking for a carb. rebuilt kit - the one you recommended (K10-WAT). Because no parts are no longer being made for the machine, all I could find was a K20-WAT - which it was advertised as for the Walbro Carb on the 028 AV. Will this work? It's a last ditch effort to revive my saw! (I bought it - $13 and cheaper than a replacement saw.) Please help.
Tom I have the same question? I suspect that it is the K20 WAT might the correct unit. Are you able to shed any light on that I noticed no one replied to your query. Thx
Did you check the Carb. pop off ? One more time. If you want to learn something? Testing pop off ,,,,,,PSI on a carb. ? Google 2 stroke carb. pop off !!!! on the ( chainsaw arboristsite ) web site
