Exploring Carcassonne with kids! createplaytrav... Have you ever wanted to explore a walled city fortress? We did just that with our 3 kids. We explored the city of Carcassonne in southern France. Not to be confused with the board game, Carcassonne is an actual city with numerous towers and a double wall.
Carcassonne is an impressive medieval fortified city with a massive wall encircling it. I thought the towers look like something out of a fairy tale. It's one of the largest surviving medieval fortresses in Europe.
We had a great day walking through the narrow streets, visiting the shops, and of course, exploring the wall and enjoying the views.
One of Carcassonne's characteristics is the beautiful Gothic cathedral, built in the 13th century. To our kids delight, we found many fun castle-themed shops to explore.
We really enjoyed our time visiting Carcassonne. I'd definitely recommend a visit to families of all ages!
