I know that this isn’t your most recent video, I just want to let out a few nice words. I recently stumbled upon your channel while trying to inform myself about all the Carcassonne expansions. I found this video and immediately got a good start for which expansion to look into. Very informative video, you’re a really talented person when it comes to explaining and sharing thoughts. I have not been new to Carcassonne but only knew about the first edition and its first 2 expansions before. You opened up my eyes for a whole new world of this beautiful game. I’ve been going through all your content regarding this game, your tutorials are just absolutely amazing. I also liked the 1 hour gameplay sessions after the informative tutorials. I liked it so much even, that I watched the videos of expansions I already knew everything about too. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your hard work and passion for this game. I'd never considered Farms an expansion. That said, I play a lot with my son who is 12 and we barely use the farms (he's allowed to but I won't unless he does or I'll handicap myself slightly by not doing so). I think it's good to skip farms for a few games with any new player and only add them in when someone is really into the game otherwise it just feels like you're waiting until the end of the game then pointing out that innocent Meeple lying down then adding 30 points to your score and declaring yourself the winner! Traders is an interesting mechanic as it gives you a reason to finish someone else's city and a potential bonus of 30 points can swing some games (depending on the number of players/expansions). As with many expansions, it becomes less and less relevant the more tiles you add. I didn't used to care about it either but then I bought myself some wooden tokens to replace the cardboard ones and now it's a firm favourite. I agree with you about the Dragon being lots of fun and I too forget about the Fairy a lot of the time (especially scoring the 1 point every turn). The 3 extra points for having the fairy protecting a Meeple when you complete a feature is a nice bonus though, as if being able to protect from the Dragon so I'd put is as essential if you have the Dragon in play. The Princess is a nasty little mechanic, removing a Meeple from someone's city can really sting if you've spent several turns building it up. On the flip side, it can be pretty risky as you could leave a city open for anyone to take so it's best used if you've already got a claim on it.
Bravo for the video, I agree with most of your choices. Except: For my wife, the goods are essential. For me, Flying machine are out. Dragon and princess are also out, they change the spirit of the game too much. You don't need any other expansions except the Phantom which is essential. Keep playing
