Who sees this amazing feat of memory and says "well why can't you do it in hexadecimal?"

You? ;)

Check the comments in the main video. Many people. I myself thought about using alphabets

I would probably try to remember the colors as 13 bars of a 4/4 pulse where some notes are emphasized; and I would use musical pieces I already know to help me memorize these 13 bars. Mathematically, it's basically the same as memorizing 13 hexadecimal digits.

When I was taking a short term memory test where one has to recall a list of words, I used the same technique by associating "associatable" concepts into a story and got high scores. The memory palace, people.

The technique that associates numbers with sounds, then associates numbers with words (like "bat"), surely is way more complicated at the beginning, because it requires learning a new thing and practicing it quite a bit before being fluent. But after this bit is done, it's imcomparably easier and faster, and it allows you to remember even large numbers almost effortlessly. Because it's way easier to remember the image of a "bat going into a cave on a car then being eaten by a bear" rather than "91, 78, 74, 94".

Instead of two packs of cards being the next challenge, she could go for remembering suits.

I guessed she was using 5 bits at a time and converting to letters as e.g. ITU2 teleprinter code and thinking of a word beginning with each letter to make a visual story...

Remembering a sequence of 8 one- or two-digit numbers (and their signs) is still quite a feat.

I didn’t realize such intricate systems had bees made for suit memorization!

These are general memorization techniques. They can be used for anything.

I like that she is a bit embarrassed to have a favourite number like 21, when Brady has demonstrated repeatedly that every mathematician has multiple arrays of favourite numbers.

I think you could make the trick more impressive by adding a faro shuffle.

More impressive than recalling two decks of cards would be recalling the suits and face values of the cards.

Without trying to pry, does Zoe experience synesthesia?
@soranuareane
@soranuareane Год назад
Based on her explanations, I doubt it. Synesthesia comes in varying modalities and I believe it comes in various strengths as well, but I haven't read any literature on that. While synesthesia would certainly help simplify this, she doesn't assign consistent colors to numbers, she doesn't attribute numbers to sounds, and she doesn't mention a number-shape or number-form relation. This makes her skill even more impressive!

Can't help but think this is a really rubbish system, considering people can memorise a full card deck in under 30 seconds, number, suit, everything.
