There is a surcharge even when I want to take cash from the ATM, I would have thought billions in profit for the banks would be enough, considering they produce nothing.

Did the woman just say obviously we want the banks to be profitable? I dont think we need to worry about the banks not making enough profit.

Of course they should be banned otherwise use cash...

Given the massive profits made by our banks the surcharges could be dropped. It's just another bank fee to keep ripping consumers and business owners off.

Someone said that it's time to be concerned when you start to see individuals shoplifting groceries rather than big-screen televisions, and i agree. Truth is, inflation will never reach 2% ever again, maybe in the next life, but not this one. Anyone purchasing groceries and gasoline is aware that real inflation is much over 10%; they simply lie about it like cheap blankets. In reality, interest rates would be in the 20s because of how high inflation is. But then despite the severe bear market, I am aware of certain investors that continue to earn over $365,000. Wish I could accomplish that.

Boycott all cashless businesses

I use cash lol i have not eaten KFC in 4 years because they went cashless in my area in 2020 and i don’t give any business that doesn’t accept cash my money 👍

The point of having a centralized republic is that the federal government (of any party) can protect its citizens from extortion. Unqualified fees are just that. If the government hasn't been doing that, what have they been doing? And why?

Far too many businesses dont take cash

Larger stores have a security come and collect their money, take it back to HQ, they recount it and deposit it into the stores account. That costs money. Then a security company has receive a request for money/coins, the order is filled and then delivered by at least 3 security men. That’s a big cost. Customers paying by card are doing these businesses a HUGE favour by cutting down or eliminating those cash charges. Shops are going against the law as they don’t display what the surcharge is and a lot charge more than the maximum 1.5%

If there is no option to pay cash, there should be no card fee. After all think of the savings to the business, you are doing their banking for them. If we become a cashless society there should be no fees at all

Blame the banks then they are the ones who make us pass this fee on. I am a sole trader and i get charged every time a customer uses their card.

The thing is, it doesn't actually cost them anything to process digital payments so they're just gouging like they always do

Life is full of compromise. I'd support surcharge free eftpos payments if the same legislation made it compulsory for businesses to accept cash, free of any surcharges as well.

I’m travelling Europe and they take card everywhere without charging a surcharge

So he is basically saying business should embed the extra fee into the product costs and so you wouldn’t see it as a seperate fee.

So what? You want everything for free? You pay for the convenience of using a card and they want to make a living. If you don’t like it use cash.

I'm with nab but it is all the way over the other side of Ipswich's so I have to use other ATM which cost me 2.50 extra to get my money out and I am on a pension. Nab needs to put out more ATM's because this is costing their clients so much.

This is why i pad buy cash and if business don't take cash walk away this just proves that governments got no rights to take money away and move to digital currency

We offer one fee free way, in addition to cash. But the amount we get charged for tap and go payment methods by the bank, that come from the same account as if you inserted the card is ridiculous.

Honestly the government should be Looking into learning basic economics, price of power goes up, cost of doing business goes up, pass cost of doing business onto consumer means inflation goes up honestly not that hard to understand I’m less worried about credit card surcharges when I can use cash than the insane cost of power

They charge you a surcharge for the use of their eftpos machine and then if I use payWave the bank sting me. Our banks are more than making enough profits. Just look at the mortgage scam, in parts of the world your interest rate stays the same for the life of the loan, why don’t the Australian banks do that. It’s not as though they have to reborrow the money to give you.

Credit card surcharges are normal. The more surcharges banks and business owners put on debit card transactions the more people will start heading back to cash which will cost small business even more in the long run. A balance needs to be reached for everyone's benefit. I only pay $6.20 for a schooner of Carlton draught at the moment thankfully and I challenge anyone to find one cheaper that is not part of a short term special offer. I think we need to look at how to get customers and keep customers without exorbitant charges. 😎🇦🇺

Creditcard processing fees for businesses are expensive, the business pays upto 6% and more in fees for reward cards, usually 2.7 to 3.4% on regular cards. the "convenience fee" added to a bill is to cover the added cost of accepting credit payment... I prefer to give a 3% discount for cash to my customers (I have already added the credit card cost to your bill in the form of increased parts and labor)

People used the card because they don't have any money...they have credit.
